Bright and breezy morning ....

Image
30th June 2019 (Sunday)       07.00   ....   there’s a fresh feel to the Bright and breezy morning. last day of June after the rain, and the forecast is for sunny spells and a frisky West wind.    I’m feeling on the fresh side of frisky this morning and will circumnavigate the villages, after this update, then have breakfast.    Must ‘go’ .... ever so slight flap on .... I feel excited. 08.30      It is a beautiful, bright and breezy morning;   a lovely day for getting things done.     I’ve been round the villages and all the usual things are where they should be .... plus an awfie lot of extra vehicles.     It’s holiday time.... with visitors from different parts of the UK .... and further afield.     There will be some interesting conversations to be had. 11.00    There’s no let up with work on what used to be Margaret Dunsire’s wee cottage.    I suppose the workmen have a good day for working, and so would I if the garden wasn’t so wet.    That said, there’s nothing to s

'Walk and Feast' ....

29th June 2019 (Saturday )       09.00 ....   It’s a bonnie morning; A few of our walkers at the top of the Double Dykes (Balcarres Estate)     though overcast just now, the sun is beginning to burn off the cloud, so we should have long sunny spells in a wee while.     Rain showers are forecast for the afternoon/evening, but the ‘Walk and Feast’ will be finished by then.     Oh ... I now know why I kept falling asleep for the past couple of days;    I’m choked up with a head cold.      However I feel brighter this morning so I’ll bike up to Colinsburgh for coffee/tea then up to the Deil’s Lodge.    I don’t know if I’ll go back to Colinsburgh for lunch;    I’ll see how I feel.... and how the shower clouds are building.    If they look threatening I might need to scuttle home before the showers. 17.00    The ‘Walk and Feast’ was really enjoyable;   I went around on the bike, and was all over Balcarres, taking short cuts to get in front of the walkers (14) so that I could get a f

Hmmmmm .... cool breeze off the North Sea

28th June 2019 (Friday)      08.00 ..... the sky is overcast just now but the Finial suitable for the Royal Burgh. sun should burn the cloud off later;     it is forecast to be warm away from the east coast.     We’ve got that, (what seems perpetual) brisk, cool breeze off the   North Sea:    having said that, the wind is predicted to veer to the South by tomorrow morning, giving us a really cosy Saturday.     I haven’t been out   yet.... well no further that the gate .... the plan is to have the flagpole up and a flag flying, before I go ‘out to play’. 12.00     My watching Foyle’s War until midnight is going to have to stop:   I’m useless the next day.     All I have done today is check the gilding, do three Soduko’s, and fall asleep in the Hutte.     Normally I’m in bed by 22.00 and asleep by 22.30;   I have never been a late night person.     I’ll be early in bed tonight that’s for sure.     Tomorrow is the local Kirk ‘Walk and Feast’;   that’s coffee/tea in Colinsburgh

Cracker o' a mornin' ....

27th June 2019 (Thursday)        09.00 .... it’s an absolute cracker of a 'The Ferry' High Street. morning.... sunny and warm, and probably hot later.     I’ve been out on the bike, now I’m going to Leven to have my haircut.     Slight ‘flap on’ now;   got to have a quick cuppa. 11.00      I’ve been to Leven but the hairdresser was too busy;    and I was too early to visit Jim, so I handed   in some clothes to the Charity Shop, bought 3 books and was back home just after 10.00.     Jings   ..... I didn’t think:   I could have had morning coffee in ‘arbour ‘ouse.     As it is I am having one of my own ‘Especial Finest’.... and it is not pleasant.     However this is a perfect day for finishing the flagpole and getting it back in place;   its Armed Forces Day on Saturday. I’ve been down to the harbour (again) to see Derek in action, painting the yellow lines outside the Sailing Club.     I forced myself to take a few more photographs. Elie - mid morning. 17.00

Cool breeze from the East ....

Image
26th June 2019 (Wednesday)      07.30..... the sky is heavily overcast, and, Overcast, quiet kind of morning. combined with a breeze from the east, the air feels unseasonably cool:    it should turn warmer once the sun begins to burn back the cloud.     Alas, there will be wind chill, which will take a few degrees off the temperature, near the coast;   it will be cosy inland.       I haven’t been out yet:   I intend timing my circumnavigation of the villages to be at ‘arbour ‘ouse for morning coffee;   hoping that the sun will be breaking through by then. 11.30     Wellll .... the sun has yet to burn back the cloud;   it’s   still overcast, and chilly in the breeze, so I took the car to the harbour and for morning coffee.     The villages are busy .... especially Ferry Road.    Funnily enough I’m feeling sluggish this morning;    I watched Foyle’s War last night and that ended at midnight.     That is a late night for me.... and I still wake up at 05.00.      Although  I didn

25th June 2019 (Tuesday)        09.00 ......The villages are looking so Lovely morning ... and warm. extraordinarily bonnie this morning that it took me an hour and a half to scuttle (slowly) round them, taking 178 photographs on the way.     We have a lovely, peaceful morning, with an already warm sun:   the makings of a gorgeous day. I’ve just remembered that I have a car somewhere;   I’d better turn its wheels sometime today.... even a few metres will do. 18.00      The car feels ‘loved’ again;    I took it to the ‘Pav’ for morning coffee.     No no no... that’s not iggzactly   right:    the car didn’t get the morning coffee;   I did, with Myra and Geoff.    I travelled along to the ‘Pav’ in the car.     That’s better;   it almost makes sense.     Having sorted that oot, what other stuff did I do today? I had planned to go to Leven and visit Jim this afternoon, but I then thought I’ll do that tomorrow, and have my haircut when in Leven (in the morning)..    The las

24th June 2019 (Monday)        09.00 ....  I suppose the best way to describe Mmmmm .... its a grey kind of morning. the day so far would be ‘gloomy’:   the sky is heavily overcast with occasional light rain.    We are forecast to have ‘thundery showers with a moderate breeze from the East’.     Right now there’s a thunder storm in the North Sea (off the coast of Yorkshire) rumbling it’s way north, so it looks like being a day for inside work.    Not a drying day.    10.15     I had a walk to the beach;   looking for some inspiration before I start the ironing.       No matter what the weather the view from the top of the bents always motivates me;   not necessarily to do an ironing though.     However big drops of rain began to fall so I enjoyed the moment, and wandered back to Ivy.    I’m having a cuppa before plugging in the iron. The thunder storm in the North Sea has petered out,  The thunder storm in the North Sea has petered out, but there is a new one fizzling u

23rd June 2019 (Sunday)      10.00 .... It is overcast just now, but the sun is Elie Bay. trying hard to break through.... and the forecast is for us to get up to 18c later:   having said that there is a cool breeze from the East.     Could this be the first sign of winter? I have been round the villages on the bike and everything is where it should be... so... (apart from the odd bit of litter) the Centre of the Universe all good, and looking forward to another busy day.    So am I;  after breakfast. Eider duck. 19.30      The sky has greyed over in the last our or so,   after what has been a bonnie, warm day.    The forecast is for rain, heavy and thundery to come our way overnight, and through tomorrow..... there is a yellow warning out for Fife:   the rain could be heavy enough to cause flash floods etc.     This explains the sky turning grey;   it’s the weather front moving in.     The Ivy hatches are battened down.... and I have an ironing to do tomorrow when/if t

22nd June 2019 (Saturday)       10.00     What an absolutely gorgeous start Kincraig cliffs - Earlsferry. to the day.     I have been out on the bike doing the villages and Elie Estate run.... and it was really pleasant.      The harbour was busy;   the yacht ‘Defiant’ was getting ready to go out, there was a group of fishermen off out on a wee boat.... and someone filming with a drone.      It gets even better;   I met Primrose out with the dog!      The loch was peaceful;    even the swans seemed content with each other.    Yep.... it was a grand morning to be out.     I am going to have another cuppa then don my ‘working togs’ to do a spot of painting. ... and ... I might get the flagpole back in place later today. Elie Harbour. 18.30     It has been a bonnie day for working.... 22c in the garden this afternoon.    I’ve done a fair amount of work today.... but not much when I think of what I could do only three years ago:   oh I can still do the jobs but arthritis mak

Summer Solstice .....

Image
21st June 2019 (Friday) .... 06.00      We have a cracker of a morning at the Sunrise over Elie and Earlsferry. Centre of the Universe.... and .... yes I did get out to see the Solstice sunrise over the villages.       I wasn’t the only one out at that time;     a lassie was out on her bike, though I don’t know where she witnessed the sunrise event.    It wasn’t a spectacular sunrise, but it was braw being at Chapel Green to see it.    I ought to have made a flask of coffee.... but was too eager to get out that I didn’t think of coffee.     I will be having a catnap later that’s for sure.    Right now it’s breakfast time.    Enjoy Midsummer’s Day.... it looks like being a good yin. 09.00      The sun burned off the earlier clouds and we now have a braw summer’s day, as per forecast.     There’s a good   breeze so a good drying day for both washing and painting.     I went back to bed after my early start so I’m feeling ‘frightfully frisky’..... playful even!      Early

20th June 2019 (Thursday)        07.30   ..... Ferry Road is wet this morning, Elie High Street this afternoon. so at least one shower has bumbled its way over us during the night.      Right now we have long sunny spells with a brisk south westerly wind,... which is forecast to freshen later, and not be as warm.     With the temperatures we’ve had recently, it’s hard to believe that tomorrow is the Summer Solstice.... after which it’s all downhill to winter!      Having said that, July, August and September, are normally our best ‘summer weather’ months.... so (hopefully) the best is yet to come. 12.00     I went to Leven and bought the stuff I need.... then visited Jim.      He was quiet at first, but on mentioning ‘National Service’ he switched ‘on’.    Jim was in the RAF so we had a chat about the different kind of planes he worked on.     I began to ‘sign in’ to the care home a week ago, and thought I’d got the hang of it (for the first few months I didn’t realise that I h

19th June 2019 (Wednesday)        08.30 ..... we have a lovely start to the day,   Cracker of a morning. sunny spells with a breeze from the Southwest ....though it does feel cool when the sun is hidden by a cloud.      I’ve been out;   Chapel Green, Harbour,   Balbuthie Loan, Kinneuchar then home (7 ¾ miles). The first half of the journey was in bright sunshine.... the sun was behind cloud for the second half so I didn’t stop to take photographs.   Sadly, we have had a serious ‘incident’, when two people found dead in a house in Elie. ...   most of you will have seen this on the ‘News’.    Their deaths are being treated as ‘unexplained’.      My thoughts and prayers are with the relatives of the deceased at this distressing time. West end of Links Road, Earlsferry this afternoon. 12.30     This is definitely a sun cream day.... it’s warm, the wind has faded away, and I am working in the garden.       I have had morning coffee, and had an enjoyable chat with the ‘troops’.
