Bonnie morrrrrrrrrning .....

Image
31st May 2021 (Monday)    06.00 .... we have another balmy morning;  it’s  quiet, bright, sunny and warm,  with only a light breeze (E).    I see haar/fog in most of the Fife weather cams but we are clear at the moment;   I’ll go out on the bike after a cuppa. 09.30     It’s a crackin’ morning;   however, the haar is moving in off the sea, and the breeze has freshened since I was out .... so it’s beginning to feel cooler, but it should be a nice enough day.    I will stay around Ivy and do a spot of tidying up around the garden:  and.... although not a great ‘drying day’ I have a small washing on the line .... it should dry by evening time.   I have been a reasonably busy boy.   On the ‘paper run’ I did the villages and Elie Estate so I am a tired boy .... I still have few photos to ‘play’ with, but I’ll sort them after ‘morning coffee’ and a cat-nap. 21.00    ‘Ne’er cast a cloot, till May is oot’ is an auld saying:  well, May is oot but I won’t be ‘castin’ a cloot’ until the wind sto

Fantastical morning ....

30th May 2021 (Sunday)    12.00 .... After a foggy (and warm) start to the morning we are .... bathed in sunshine, with the haar drifting around on the water:  But let’s go back to the beginning:  I went for the paper in the car, ‘cos I thought the wheels could do with the exercise, then came back to Ivy had a cuppa and went to the harbour on the bike.... and was there for an hour and a half .... it was magical... the  light was changing all the time, so I went round three times; and loved every minute of it.   I got some decent photographs of ‘Archie’ (skiff) being launched.    It was one of those perfect mornings that I dream about;  oh .... I have a few photographs to ‘play’ with. 16.00   The Ivy garden thermometer was at 18C when I checked a few minutes ago, so it will be around 13C on the beach;  that said it is a bonnie afternoon, the only down being the onshore breeze.     I tried (three times) to get onto the ‘live’ kirk service this morning but all I could get was a screen

29th May 2021 (Saturday)    07.30  .... the sun has a bit of work to do before we get the ‘sunny intervals’ mention in the forecast;  at the moment we have haar/fog that’s rolled in from the North Sea, on a light easterly breeze.    I’ll go for the paper later, and hope the sky brightens quickly;  in the meantime I’ll have another cuppa.   Actually we might be plagued by haar, and an onshore breeze today taking a few degrees off the temperature.  15.00     There has been more cloud about today, with the cool onshore breeze, but... my word... I enjoyed my ‘paper run’ this morning.     As normal I went to the harbour and found Helen getting ‘Archie’ (skiff) ready for launching;   the intention being to row out to the Wester Vows.    Angus was there, getting things set up for Elie Water Sports,   dog walkers and joggers were out;   it was a quietly busy scene, with a brilliant atmosphere all around;   I had a great time;   and I’d remembered to go for the paper. By the time I reached C

Bright, sunny and ... warm!

28th May 2021 (Friday)      10.30 .... this is the weather we have dreaming about;   it’s bright, sunny and warm .... shorts weather really, but the waist-band of my shorts has shrunk with.... lack of usage!     We have a lovely morning and I have been for the paper, down to the harbour, clicked the camera button numerous times chatted to numerous people;   I have had an enjoyable morrrrrrrrrrrning.     I would have gone through Elie Estate but the bike battery was low;   it’s now being charged.    If the roads are not too busy I’ll go ‘inland’ in the afternoon. 16.00    It has been a gorgeous day.... unfortunately  a cool onshore breeze  and a thin layer of cloud, took the edge of the temperature, in the afternoon... and there’s the possibility of haar drifting in off the North Sea.    It was brilliant at ‘my time’ of day. Ferry Road has been extremely busy with vehicles; at one time it was like London Road in Uckfield;   however it has calmed down now.    I had thought of going

Overcast and cooler than expected ....

27th May 2021 (Thursday)      08.30 .... There’s more cloud around than I Jet, Chris and Kate in Earlsferry. expected, but the sun should break through by lunchtime;   the wind is light and is mostly going to be from the SE ... in other words, a cool onshore breeze.   I hung a washing out early and it should be dry by evening time. I’m feeling brighter this morning and have been for the paper and down to the harbour in the car (I needed milk):   everyone will be pleased to know that all is good down there;     ‘The Harbour Cafe’ is looking   good and should be ready for the opening in mid June.    It looks very ‘Olde Fashioned’ and coastal.     ‘Nosebag’ (has this ‘Nosebag’ got any connection with the Oxford ‘Nosebag’?) will be operating from the ‘Sailing Club’, so there will be a choice of good food at the harbour. 10.30     I did it;   oh I’d better explain.    All morning I have been on the lookout for Chris, Kate and Jet who are walking round the edge of the UK, I finally caug

26th May 2021 (Wednesday)       06.30 .... There’s a healthier ‘feel’ to the air Woodside Road - Elie. this morning ;   it’s warmer for a start and the wind is light so hardly any wind-chill .... we could have a bonnie day ahead, albeit with showers.     On the 21st June we will be celebrating the Summer Solstice, after which the nights start drawing in.... where has the first half of the year gone?      A couple of weeks ago I saw a number of House Martin’s and two Swallows;     they appear to have migrated South again because I haven’t see any for a few days.    Hopefully today is the first day of a long spell of warmer and more seasonal weather. 09.00     Because it began to spit rain, I decided that today was the day to do a ‘shopping’ at ‘the Store’.    This is a holiday weekend so the villages, and the shops, will be busy:   unusual for me, I did a ‘big’ shopping, probably because it is a holiday weekend.     We have light rain at the moment but it is due to clear away leaving

Overcast and damp ....

25th May 2021 (Tuesday)      08.30 .... This morning we have an overcast sky West Bay - Earlsferry. with the threat of rain.... and there’s a cold northerly breeze:  not the weather and temperature we expect at this time of year.      Sunny spells are forecast, and the air should be warmer, sheltered from the cool breeze.    I hope to get out on the bike once the I see how the weather develops.    Actually what we need is a warm and gentle westerly breeze .... the Zephyr breeze we associate with Spring and Summer.   Zephyros, is the Greek God of the West wind.   I think he needs a poke.  10.00    I haven’t been for the paper because it’s raining;  I think I’ll ‘work’ until lunch time, and go to the shops in the afternoon.    ‘Work’ is me going through, and shredding the contents of the many ‘Folders’ on the office shelf.   It’s a good day for doing that.... and I should end up with some useful space..... plus a load of empty ‘Folders’.     The afternoon is going to be brighter with fe

Not a good hair day ....

24th May 2021 (Monday)    08.00 ....We have a bleak looking start to the day, and the forecast isn’y ‘iggzactly’ heartening.... the rain is forecast to move away and we are to have a ‘sunny spell’ at 21.00:    Ye Gods I hope that forecast is inaccurate;  we want sunny spells before then.   On the bright(?) side.... there’s not much dust around (to bother the eyes), when out on the bike.   I think this might be a computer kind of day..... actually   I’ll begin the ‘computer stuff’ by browsing different weather forecasts, until I find a good one.    08.30     My word .... even ‘Willy Weather’ has us down for rain:   however, all is not ‘doom and gloom’, I detect brighter bits in the general greyness of the sky, and the rain has stopped;   in fact   there’s clear sky on the ‘sooth side’, so we could have sunny spells by 14.00.    Orf to have another cuppa.    Oh ... I forgot;  It's raining at Machu Picchu.... and also dark.  16.00    Wellll .... we have had a few sunny spells, albeit

23rd May 2021 (Sunday)     08.30 ....Elie was still a-slumber when I went for .... not the rush hour. the paper;  except Cath in the paper shop.   Cath was frisky and happy;  and she set a challenge for the customers .... by moving the hand-wash setup from the left to the right side of the shop entrance.    You will have guessed that I remembered to stop at the ‘paper shop’ this morrrrrrrning. The harbour very peaceful, though one bloke did do a circuit of the parking area on a motor bike (a quiet one) which was a change .... I think he was just out for a breath of fresh air.   I had a stroll round the granary then down to the boats (the tide was full out) before going back to the car when   a few spits and spots o’ rain fell from a passing cloud.    We could have showers in the afternoon. 17.00      I have had a ‘rest day’;   the furthest I have been since going for the paper this morning, is the front gate.     Iain let me see how to use the camera in ‘macro mode’ (I had just be

Bright and sunny .... so is the weather

22nd May 2021 (Saturday)    09.00 .... There’s no denying it;   the Scottish Jackie and Iain. weather is changeable.     We have a lovely, ‘bright and sunny’ morning, though there is a lot of light cloud about, but not of the threatening kind;  a big change from yesterday.    The breeze is from the Northwest and cool but we should have a pleasant day.... and a good day for us going out on the bikes.   The ‘troops’ won’t arrive until mid morning:  I have the kettle ready to ‘go’.    This will be the first time I have seen any of the ‘troops’ since March 2020 .... other than on ‘Zoom’.   21.30      This has been an exciting day for me;   and I couldn’t stop talking.    Its 14 months since any of the troops were able to visit, so I made up for the lost time and gave my tongue a load of exercise.    Iain brought down some of ‘N’ gauge rail ‘stock’ he’s been buying, and set up a circle of track so that I could see the see the engines in action.    The most impressive of all was the Deltic

21st May 2021 (Friday)      06.00 .... All the weather forecasts had rain for KY9.... and rain we have;  not particularly heavy, but cheerless looking and very wet.    This is the perfect ‘ousework day;  Jackie and Iain are coming down tomorrow so I’d better run around with the furniture polish etc.    I’m feeling brighter this morning, (much brighter than the weather), having felt ‘one degree under’ for the past couple of days.   08.00     My word .... the ‘bucket men’ are on the job early this morning..... the ‘broon’ bucket was emptied at 07.20.    They must be trying to miss the ‘rush hour’ traffic. I’ve been for the paper .... and down at the harbour (in the car):   I don’t think the bike will be out today.     Mind you the sky does show some slightly promising signs;   there are pale patches and the sun might break though by afternoon. Wet looking corner of Kinneuchar. 18.30    We did have some brief sunny spells, but showers are still around;  I thought of going up to Chapel

Gorgeous morrrrrrrrrning .....

20th May 2021 (Thursday)    09.30 .... Really peaceful this morrrrning.... but rain is forecast to move in over by mid- morning. I am contemplating changing the  Hutte' format;    me writing about what I do is becoming boring, so I'm going to put up a few photographs, with a wee bit of writing instead. The above 'plan' (to change The Hutte) has been cancelled.... so..... 20th May 2021 (Thursday)    09.30 .... It was stunningly bonnie down at the harbour at 06.30  this morning, so much so that that I walked round it twice..... happily clicking about 120 times.   The freshening breeze soon got rid of the mirror like water.... and the temperature began to drop.   It was a magical morning.... but the forecast isn’t great for later today. 11.30    Well I did some ‘ousework.... including doing a small washing, which is hanging in front of a radiator;  it should dry when I turn up the central heating.   The weather was reasonably bright (not sunny)  so I went up to Barnett’

19th May 2021 (Wednesday)    09.00 .... With Ian and Jackie coming down at the weekend I thought I’d better do a wee shopping, so went to ‘The Store’;  I didn’t buy very much, but enjoyed the walk up and down the aisles, and got all the bits and pieces I wanted.    ON the way home I could see that the sun is shining brightly on the West of Fife, but we are plagued with cloud coming in from the North Sea.    Mind you, it is warm, and it’s only showers that are forecast for us, and they can be hit or miss.... hopefully miss. 17.00 With most of the showers ‘precipitating’ somewhere else, and us only getting the benefit of the bonnie clouds, I did the villages... Chapel Green to the harbour and points in between;  but, I kept an ‘eye on the weather’ all the time, though I needn’t have bothered, because I enjoyed a long, warm spell of sunshine with loads of clouds all around. Jennifer and James. I met Jame ... er.... Jennifer and James at the harbour and asked if they wouldn’t mind b
