St Andrews Day ... and it's raining

Image
30th November 2018   (St Andrews Day)   ..... 07.30     and it’s A sunny spell! raining, but it’s going to be brighter in a wee while.    It has to be .... I’ve got a washing in the machine.    I suppose with this being St Andrews Day we should do some kind of ritual thing but the weather is not amenable to rituals;  well not the jumpin' aboot roond a tree kind.     I’ll have a cuppa. 09.00     The weather is not amenable to rituals?.... it’s not amenable to hanging washing out either... nor going to the beach.     We have heavy rain at the moment.... but the forecast is for sunny spells and showers by midday.    St Andrews flag. 14.00     We have had a couple of brighter spells;   I   wouldn’t call them sunny spells;   but we have had a number of the heavy rain showers.    The washing is hanging in front of a radiator.... and I am having another ‘lazy’ day in front of the computer.     Oh .... I’ve been for the paper, and enjoyed morning coffee and a blether, but

Frisky morning .... ....

29th November 2018 (Thursday) .... 08.00     Hmmmm .... our weather is Alistair and Monica - Elie Harbour. (as forecast) wet and windy, though not yet as windy as I’d expected it to be.... nor as wet.     It should be windier, and showery in the afternoon, with the slight chance of a sunny spell.      Not a morning for the beach.     I’ll go to Kirkcaldy first thing, then down to Dysart for a cuppa in Harbour Master’s House.     I can’t think of anything else I need to do in Kirkcaldy?   13.30     It has been a wet day so far, though the rain did slacken off for a bit in the middle of the day.     My trip to Kirkcaldy went successfully... apart from the fact that the Harbour Masters House (Dysart Harbour) wasn’t open so I didn’t have a coffee break.      However I was back in Elie by 10.30 so went to Harbour House and had ‘morning coffee’ with George ... and Brenda.     The weather has deteriorated and is now very wet.... and very windy.      Not Late afternoon. nice.

Brisk wind ... and slightly warmer

28th November 2018 (Wednesday) .... 07.30     " Strong winds with light Bonnie....  in a wild sort of way. showers, the odd sunny spell, with heavier showers later" that’s the weather forecast for today;   more rain... nothing new there then.     Though windier the air feels warmer:   no.. not ‘warmer’.... just slightly less cold.    The brisk wind is adding wind chill.      Funny thing is the clouds are coming from the southwest, but the wind, at ground level, from the southeast. 09.00     I’ve been on the beach, and it is breezy;   F4 – 5 from the SE, but not desperately cold, though you have to be well wrapped up.     There was the odd spit of rain in the wind, but not enough to put the camera away.... though rain isn’t far away by the look of the sky.     I think this will be a ‘computer day’ for this boy. The Ferry beach. 19.30      It was the Colinsburgh ‘Lite Lunch’ today;   and there was a really good   attendance.    The next one, the Christmas one,

Bright, breezy and cool ....

27th November 2018 (Tuesday) ....    08.30    It’s windy and cold, but at Elie this morning. least it’s not raining .... yet.     There has been a lot of rain overnight so no dust.... but loads of water all over the place.     I warmed up the car by going down to the harbour;   then cooled myself down by getting out of the car.     It is breezy, and cool down there, but fine in the lee of the granary.... with loads of fresh air around.     It’s a nice morning for being out as long as you’re well wrapped up. 20.00      Welll .... we have one wild evening at the Centre of the Universe;   windy and wet.     Not an evening for going out with the camera to get night shots.    The Ivy hatches have been well battened down;   the kettle is on ‘stand by’ and I’m a happy bunny.    I’ve been fairly busy today ;   as in doing things.... not playing.     After breakfast I fired up the tele and had a game of golf.... my putting was excellent this morning and I went round in -6:   that’s

26th November 2018 (Monday) ....   07.00      At the moment we have a This morning 10 minutes before sunrise. breezy and dry morning.... with clouds scampering over the moon;    it’ s really bonnie.      Sunrise is at 08.10 but once again there is a heavy bank of low cloud on the horizon,   which will (if it stays where it is) hide actual sunrise.     It is a bonnie morning for a walk on the beach. 08.30    I've been to the beach for a short walk;  actually it started to spit rain so I cut the walk short.   The rain didn't come to much but it looks like we're going to get a few light showers over the morning.   It is a nice mornin' for a walk.... but I have the engineer coming, and my knee is playing up badly this morning.  I blame the damp weather. South end of Park Place - Elie. 11.30     I’ve been out filling the bird feeders and   it is not that warm today;   in fact it’s cauld.     The sky is beginning to cloud over;   and I put on a washing.     The

25th November 2018 (Sunday) .... 07.30     It looks like being a nice day, Bonnie mornin' ro be out on the beach. though rain showers are mentioned in the weather forecast:   I would like 7 hours and 50 minutes of sunshine today.    Just for a change.       Sunrise is at 08.10, and looks like it could be visible;   though there is a bank of low cloud on the horizon that could spoil things.   I’m feeling skittish. 09.00      The beach was busy this morning;   and it was (I say was because it is now raining) a pleasant morning for being on the beach.    Until   the rain   came.     Sunrise was never going to be visible because of the low cloud, but we had an interesting sky, and there was hardly any wind so it wasn’t that cold.    The rain started at 08.00 and had me heading for Ivy at a fast(?) hirple.    The kettle will have boiled so I’m going to have a mug of coffee.    I can’t fail with the stuff I have now:   it comes in little sachets ... and all I have to do is add

Bonnie morning ....

24th November 2018 (Saturday) .... 07.30    ‘Light cloud on an easterly Sunrise from the Ferry beach. breeze with a chance of showers, then longer spells of rain later in the afternoon/evening’;   not a bad weather forecast for this time of year.    And there could be attention grabbing clouds....I feel as excited as a bag o’ ferrets.   Being that s unrise isn’t until 08.10. I’ll have another cuppa then go down to   the beach.   09.30     The beach is the place to be.... hardly any wind and very peaceful.   Only a couple of dog walkers, a jogger and me were out enjoying this blissful start to the morning.... well on the beach at that time.    It looks like being a useful kind of day for going out to play! Jet trail...  over Ivy lum. 13.00     Mmmmm .... it was afternoon when the rain started;    at about 3 minutes after midday.    Right now we have heavy rain, and general greyness;   not an afternoon for ‘going out to play’;   however we have rugby on the tele   this af

23rd November 2018 (Friday) .... 08.00    Right now I’m in the mood to Looking west from the East Links. go to the beach;   but the weather is not cooperating as we have an overcast sky with light rain, but there is a glimmer of hope;     there are pale patches in the cloud, so, we could get a few sunny spells.    One would do;   and if that one sunny spell lasted until 15.50 that would be excellent.     And a shock to the system! 14.00      The weather is not too bad, considering the time of year:   the most obvious component being the temperature.    It is cold.... mostly because of the wind chill and the damp air.     The ‘damp air’ can be very damp when we catch one of the many showers that rattle across us.     I went for the paper, then had a, relaxing,   morning coffee in Harbour House, before going out to the East links for a walk.    Out there I became aware of the temperature.... and the changes in the wetness of the air.... however I enjoyed the walk.    Elie lig

Quiet morning .... but damp

22nd November 2018 (Thursday)      07.00 ..... the air is cool, but there’s Folk on top of Lundar Law - Earlsferry. only a breath of wind so hardly any wind chill, with only a few spits and spots of rain, so, compared to yesterday we have a lovely start to the ‘day:   I might go to the beach to see what yesterdays sea brought in if the rain doesn’t come to anything.     Having said that the weather forecast has us down for ‘overcast with an easterly breeze,   and light rain or drizzle’..... not exactly inspiring. 07.30     The weather has deteriorated to ‘heavy Scotch Mist and dreich’ in the last half hour .... my walk to the beach has been cancelled, and the kettle switch is in the ‘on’ position!      Half an hour ago I thought we had the start of a ‘lovely’ day;  right now we don’t have an interesting sky, which we did have yesterday.   Our weather is sneaky.... and mostly wet. London - Aberdeen train (LNER) going through Markinch. 14.00     I’m ready to go to Markinch

Wild morning ....

Elie .... 10 minutes before sunrise. 21st November 2018 (Wednesday) .... 07.30     We’ve had a wild night; windy with heavy squally rain showers.    Not a morning for the beach.    The showers are coming in on a strong east wind   (F4-5) so there’s wind chill.     It looks like there might be a bonnie sunrise, but I’m not going to the beach to get it.... but I might go to the harbour in the car and look for a spot out of the wind and rain. 08.30   It was blowin' a hoolie down at the harbour but, I moored up in the lea of the granary, and managed to get a few early morning photos.    Elie was under one heavy cloud at the time, but the worst of the shower had passed over the harbour.     The 'light' was interesting... though on the dark side;  this was about 10 minutes before sunrise time (08.02)    I upped the ISO to compensate.    There could be some interesting clouds later.    Sunrise happened behin d heavy, low cloud.
