Chilly ....

30th April 2021 (Friday)    08.00 .... April is ending with another chilly start to the day;  my word.... this April must surely go down as one of the driest and coldest ones in a long time.   I have yet to see my first Swallow this year, they normally turn up, in numbers, around the 23rd April.   Swifts?.... sadly we’ve got rid of those.   That reminds me of happy times:  Maggie and I would  sit out, on a balmy, late July evening,  and be entertained by the local ‘flock’ of Swifts, screaming in a state of excitement as they prepared for their long trip South.    The noise of their voices and their wings, as they flashed low over us;  that was an evocative sound.   I’m glad that I had the privilege of hearing Swifts over Elie and Earlsferry. I’ve been for the paper... and to the harbour, and as I mentioned, it is another chilly morning;   but there will be warm sunshine   out of the wind.    I’m in a creative mood and will settle down in The Hutte once the sun heats it up. 17.30

Bright, sunny ....

29th April 2021 (Thursday)     08.30 .... We have a gorgeous but chilly morning;  however it is warm sheltered from the fresh Northeast wind.   It’s a good day for having my hair cut;  I’ll be wearing a heavy duty woollen hat!   Showers are forecast for later.... they add interest to a photograph;  as long as they are active a few miles away.   I’m wondering if I should be brave and have a sortie down to the beach?     The wind direction means that the dunes will provide some shelter.   09.30     It’s a bonnie morning .... and not that cold, even exposed to the wind.     I had a daunder to the beach, which was quiet but, as ever, bonnie.     I only had a short walk as I need to get organised for Leven.    I see the clouds are beginning to bumble across;   it could be an interesting afternoon.   Right now  I’d better go and write some kind of list, for things I need when in Leven.    Letham Glen (Leven).   15.30    My word;   I am one happy bunny after having my hair cut.   Kirsty ce

28th April 2021 (Wednesday)       07.30 .... welll ....  I'm vertical.... and I have Elie pier unlocked The Hutte;  both positive signs.   The overcast sky and light rain is still with us, but should clear away by mid morning.    As we head towards the driest April since 1938 (that was a good year) the sun cream remains undisturbed, as it has been for months, as it must also have been one of the coldest Aprils in a long time :  Although we have had some bonnie days, we have been plagued with that cold, onshore breeze most days.    The thermometer is reading 5C but taking wind chill into account, it’s a wrap up morning.   10.00     The folks that have booked their holidays on the West of Scotland will be missing the lovely cool breeze we have here;   in fact they might need to use sun cream.     We have lovely ‘January’ morning here;   and the place not to be is out on the pier.     Not Elie pier anyway:   might be fine at Dunoon though.    In actual fact,   we do have a bonnie mor

Overcast with light rain .....

27th April 2021 (Tuesday)       07.30 .... We have a change of weather this morning;  it’s overcast with light rain,... damp but not very cold.    There is the chance of a few early sunny spells, but the forecast is for KY9 to be generally dull and damp.... nearly all day.   It’s a computer day for me.    I’ll go for the paper after this update... and take a run to the harbour, but this looks like being a stay in day.;  this is frustrating, because the bike has a fully charged battery. 09.00     It’s a good day for doing things at home;   this boy will be doing a ‘spot’ of ‘ousework, making Venison Pie... then drawing.      The sky is beginning to look more promising towards the Northwest just now;    I hope to have a ‘daunder up the street’ sometime today.     I’ve been for the paper... and down at the harbour, and though bonnie in a different way I prefer a bit more brightness. 15.30    With rain moving across us in the afternoon I have never been further than the front gate; and I

Overcast ....

26th April 2021 (Monday )      08.30 ..... It’s overcast with a light breeze just now, but sunny spells with showers is the forecast for KY9... from mid morning.    I’ve been to the beach but it was quiet, with one dog walker, a jogger .... and me.  Although the sky was generally ‘dull’, I had a pleasant walk.   I might go out on the bike once the sunny spell arrive.... and in between any showers that may also come our way. 15.30    There certainly has been a change with the weather, the sky having been overcast most of the time;  but  we haven’t had any showers .... so far.   Sometimes it looks like we could have a sunny spell coming our way but it always seems to end up going somewhere else. I had a phone appointment with the Doctor this morning which went very well, and she is going to set up an appointment with the Asthma Nurse.    My breathing has been good today because the wind, thought not warm, has been from the West and not a dry wind.     Dry East winds are the naughty on

Quiet morning ....

25th April 2021 (Sunday)    07.30 .... There was a red sky this morning, so a change in the weather to come;   but not today.   We have a nice start to the day but, there is a layer of high cloud (that gave us the red sky) but it should burn off once the sun gets going.    There’s a light breeze, with the thermometer reading 4C, so it isn’t frosty cold, but it isn’t warm .... yet.   I’ll go for the paper via the estate after another cuppa, and once the air warms up. 16.00      The ‘paper run’, via Kinneuchar loch, this morning was fantastical;    it was almost unreal.     The water was like a mirror, except where there were birds paddling or skirmishing:   the loch has a lot of swans on it just now and territorial disagreements are frequent.    The light was lovely and .... well ...I felt like I was in a dream.    I took a few photos then bumbled my way to the ‘paper shop’,.... taking ‘time out’ to talk to Tom (Meldrum) on the way.    From the ‘paper shop’ I went down Rankeillor Str

24th April 2021 (Saturday)       08.30....  we have sunny spells with  a brisk Easterly   wind this morning and it isn’t very warm;   definitely a day for working in The Hutte.    It will be warm anywhere sheltered from the wind.... so inside The Hutte is where I will be.... or the back garden.    I might go up to Chapel Green in the afternoon.... depends on how absorbed I get with ‘work’;   and how windy, and cold it is.    I need another cuppa before I hang out a washing.... it’s a good drying day.   09.30      It’s a nice morning now;     yes it’s breezy but not feeling as cold as it was earlier (07.00).      I’ve taken the bike out and might go for a tour of the villages, and pick up a paper;   after morning coffee.     ‘Morning coffee’ will be taken in The Hutte .... as soon as the kettle boils.    Should I have cake?    I will have cake.... I need cake! 16.30    I did have cake;  and enjoyed it.   After morning coffee (and cake) I went  up to Chapel Green.   At that time the b

23rd April 2021 (Friday)      “appy St George’s Day” to all my English friends ... and I ‘ope the sun is shining on ‘sunny Sussex' and on a sunny Somerset.    07.00     We have another lovely morning in ‘sunny Fife’ and I hope to get out on the bike later.     There’s not much of a breeze, so it should be warm once the sun gets higher, though it will be cooler with the breeze coming in from the sea in the afternoon.     I’ve had a restless night;   I kept waking up every hour in case I slept in, and missed the mechanic picking up the car. 09.00     There’s an overgrown bush in the garden, that I want to seriously lop, but ... a pair of Wood Pigeons have set up home in it.     That job is on hold until any young they produce fledge.     There was another bush that need serious pruning;   it is in the ‘broon’ bucket.; The car mechanic has picked up the car so I am now free for the remainder of the day;    mind you, after the restless night I had there’s a good chance that I wi

Gorgeous morning ....

22nd April 2021 (Thursday)        07.00 .... We have another gorgeous start to the day ..... and I haven’t been anywhere.   The tide is out and I need to put fuel in the car, so I will go for the paper later in the day.   And I must make an appointment for a haircut at Lorraine’s.  Right now I’d better give ‘Blob’ his breakfast.... and have another cuppa. 09.00     That’s better;   I’ve been to ‘The Store’ for some retail therapy and I enjoyed it.  The shop is always quiet at this time.... in fact the lady that is usually there at this time ....wasn’t.   But this is a different ‘shopping morning’ for me.... anyway I missed her.    Nothing much to report re the shopping ....except that I was able to get Kenco Cappuccino today;  for the past few weeks there has been an empty space where it should be.   Kenco Cappuccino is tasty... and obviously popular.   17.30    A lazy day for this boy.... though I did manage to do a washing and potter around the garden.   I went up to the chemist (in

Absolute cracker of a mornin' ....

21st April 2021 (Wednesday)       09.00 .... What an absolute cracker of a morning.    I’ve been to the harbour.... my word it was stunning.     Nae wind so the water was like a mirror.... it was like being part of a dream.     I took a few photographs as I wandered around .... so I have something to ‘play’ with later.    I sorted through 50 of them;   that leaves about 180 to go.     Actually I think I might get the bike out after breakfast and ‘do’ the Estate run;    I haven’t been through the estate for a while.    Orf to have breakfast. 09.00    When I was at the harbour (at 06.30), there was nae wind and the sun, which appeared above the horizon at 05.55 was warm.   Now, when I was thinking of going out on the bike I find that there is a fresh breeze, from the Easterly direction ... and it’s cold;   exit biking ‘plan’.  I’ll work in The Hutte and might go out in the afternoon.... depending on how windy and cold it is.   The 'inside' of Ferry Corner pre 1947. 17.00     I s

20th April 2021 (Tuesday)    10.00 .... we have a change in the weather this morrrrrrrning but nothing too drastic;  there’s a ‘slight chance of precipitation’ but the weeds flowers could do with some water.    I’ve been out on the bike... couldn’t go far as the battery was below the half;  but I enjoyed being ‘free’ again.   The battery is ‘on charge’ and ‘we’ should get out a bit further tomorrow.    This weather is only a temporary setback.... it should be bright and sunny for the remainder of the week.... and colder.   This cold spell is hanging in there.    My plan for the remainder of today? ....I’m going to have coffee out in the Hutte just now .... and have a restful day drawing. 16.00    It turned quite cold in the middle of the afternoon and I had to abandon The Hutte;  however I did have a couple of hours drawing... and began colouring in said drawing with coloured pencils.    This is so that I can take a photo and see if it looks like ‘right’:  it’s the north side of Ferr

19th April 2021 (Monday)     10.30 .... once again we have a quiet morning and I have been for the paper .... and down to the harbour.   I’m lovin’ the harbour just now, because there’s nae wind which means the water is like a mirror.    Mind you, It doesn’t stay that way long:  by the time I leave the harbour the freshening breeze has got rid of the glass like water.   This morning I was especially rewarded;  ‘Skylark’ (a sailing dingy) was coming in after an early morning sail.... she received full attention and was well photographed.   12.30    Well .... it’s a bonnie day, warm with light cloud .... and a light breeze.   I had a walk to the beach after ‘morning coffee’.   It was good to see a few folk taking a walk along the beach so I abandoned Nana’s Seat and went down to the edge of the tide, to take in the sound of tiny waves flopping lazily onto the sand ....and to dream a little.    I then went up to John and Jenny’s Seat, to  do some more dreaming.    The beach is good for d

18th April 2021 (Sunday)      09.00 .... we have another quiet morning but it is cloudier: I'm sure that a bit of light cloud won’t stop us enjoying ourselves.... and we should have sunny spells.    I’ve for the paper and down to the harbour ;  my word I am enjoying the harbour just now.   The tide is right, there’s nae wind and we have reflections; it’s a dreamy place to be.   I’d better go and feed ‘Blob’;  and have my own breakfast. 15.30      It looks like we had the best of the day first thing;    I fell asleep after lunch and when I woke up it had been raining:  That said, it ’s a nice enough day and the rain isn’t heavy .... just damp.    I should have guessed that the weather would change;    I can go out on the bike after my blood test (PSA) at Cupar on Monday! I’ve had a ... er ... ‘restful’ kind of day;   apart from sorting out the photos I got at the harbour this morning... and goin’ to the kirk on Zoom, I have done very little.   I’m now going to have a cuppa (to h

17th April 2021 (Saturday)      09.30 .... oh my word;   I had another perfect morning at the harbour;  in fact this morning it was actually bonnier because we had some clouds bumbling over and they were reflected on the water.   Absolutely brilliant.    I like harbours (especially on warm mornings... and it was warm this morning) ... and I like reflections.   I am a happy bunny.   14.00    The day has continued as it began;  sunny and warm.... at the moment we have a cloudless sky.   I have had to abandon The Hutte .... it’s just too hot in there;  however I have done a wee bit of ‘work’ and intend doing some more after a cuppa.    I may take a a walk to the beach later in the afternoon .... or early evening.      20.30    When I say it has been ‘sunny and warm’ I mean in Ivy garden .... well out of the cool onshore breeze that gets up around midday.   I’ve had a busy day, though I did fall asleep;  I was awakened by the sound of a horse, clip clopping down Ferry Road.   I have had a
