Image
30th November 2017 (Yhursdat.. ..formerly Thursday) .... “Happy St Andrews Day” ... and Happy Birthday to Irene;  who is .... how ol ... oh my word! Ferry Wynd .... the beach is at the bottom. 09.30    Mmmmm .... it’s cold, but not as windy as was forecast, not yet anyway.... so the wind chill factor isn’t that bad.    Having said that, though there isn’t a hard frost, the wind we have makes it feel like -4..... however I was well wrapped up, and  enjoyed a walk over to West Bay and back via the Chapel and the beach. I’ll phone Jim in a wee while and see if he fancies a coffee at “Laura’s Place” in the morning;  we have the ‘Drop in Cafe’ in the afternoon. Elie beach this morning. 17.00     Jim and I have had a busy day socializing, as above..... Harbour House (“Laura’s Place”) in the morning, then the Drop in Cafe in the afternoon.    Both places were busy, with plenty chatting.    In between I ironed the duvet cover, and pruned a fuchsia.    I’m not sure if it’s

29th November 2017 (Wednesday) .... 09.30    I have just have an enjoyable walk, over the golf course to West Bay, then home via the Chapel and the Fife Coastal path - West Bay, Earlsferry. beach:  it is cold, but sunny ... a perfect morning for being out.    I met Kennedy who mentioned that it is going to be colder tomorrow morning;  perhaps we are going to get a more normal winter, rather than the wet ones we’ve been having.    Our last few winters have been cold continuations of wet summers. 19.30    I went out for a late afternoon walk, choosing to go up to the Pony Field for a change of sunset.    The wind Artistic Beacon photo . had dropped, as had the wind chill factor, so it was a pleasurable sunset time walk;   mind you I wouldn’t say that it was warm.    The pictures of ‘The Ferry’ at sunset are reasonable.... but I’d take the Canon (camera), and the tripod, next time.    However that was the late afternoon ‘action’ ... what did I do in the earlier parts of ‘the

Serene morning ....

28th November 2017 (Tuesday) .... 10.00    We have a serene kind of morning .... a really nice one for having a slow amble along the beach etc.... and that is It's like being in a dream ..... then again I probably am! what I did.    I was out for an hour enjoying the relaxing mood .... everything seemed to be moving in slow motion ... even the waves, they  were of  flopping kind, and flopped lazily.    I think I like ‘lazy’.    The only other person I met was Jenny walking her dog, and like me, she was enjoying the quiet .... and the fact that it is warmer today! I will have to stay around Ivy most of the day, waiting for  DPD delivery .... usually later in the afternoon.     Until then I’ll occupy myself doing stuff around Ivy... like printing orf my Christmas cards. 22.00     My word .... the ‘Boy’ (that’s me) has been a happy boy today;     I don’t know why but I got into a sort of working mode .... as in house.    Oh the chair arrived, and I am much pleased with it..

Dental appointment ....

27th November 2017 (Monday) .... 09.00     Hmmmm .... I have the dentist today .... a scale and polish .... a standard procedure, that involves much water Anstruther beach. in the mouth .... not very comfortable.   However my teeth always feel better after a good clean, and it doesn’t take long.    I’m trying to convince myself that I should be looking forward to this.  We have a nice enough morning though fairly cloudy just now .... it should brighten up about 12.10 .... when I exit the Dental Surgery.    I went down to the beach for a short walk, and to catch the sunrise, the walk I had, but sunrise was obscured by cloud.         20.00     Myra ... oops Jim’s Secretary ...brightened my  morning up by inviting me World famoues fish and chip shop. for morning coffee at 10.00.   Geoff was also there and we had a really interesting chat about the Sinai desert.   This remind me;  I must Google Sinai and find out it’s history.... it must have had some peaceful times! My

Feeling friskier ....

26th November 2017 (Sunday) .... There’s a touch of frost again this morning, with a, more or less, ‘wall to wall’ blue sky and a brisk breeze;   wrap up Looking across to Earlsferry from the Elie end of the bay .... (2015). well and  enjoy!     I am feeling brighter today, but I missed a coffee morning yesterday.... and a coffee morning, with loads of chat, would have got me out of the doldrums.    However,  there’s coffee and chat before the Church service (Kilconquhar);   I’m looking forward to that.    The master ‘plan’ is to go for a walk in the afternoon. 20.30    We had a christening  at the Kinneuchar kirk service today.... and the wee one took an active part .... letting us know that she was there.    I like that at any christening.    That, said the last christening I was at in Kinneuchar was “Skipper’s” .... luckily he didn’t let us know he was there.    The kirk was busy .... and the singing braw.   I didn’t contribute ... to the singing, but I did go up early fo

Snow in the West of Fife ....

Image
25th November 2017 (Saturday) .... Mmmmmm .... there is a covering of snow to the West  etc, but we only have  frost;  and a cold wind.    Having said that, it’s Lovely ....  but cold. a bonnie morning, and I have been for my beach/Chapel Green walk.... well wrapped up I might add;  and well ready for a hot cuppa when I got back to Ivy.     No plans for today.... I have an ironing to do .... that’s a warm job. 20.30    I’ve had a funny sort of ‘day’.... I couldn’t get right into anything at all.   Perhaps it’s the weather, but I have felt ‘down’ all day.    No... I tell a lie;    I decided to dismantle one of the living room chairs, and, when I was doing that I felt  positive.    It’s great what a bit of dismantling can do to the morale.    The original plan was to dismantle both chairs and keep the sofa;   I think I might stick to that.    Anyway today I dismantled one of the chairs and ordered a red tartan orthopedic  chair to replace the dismantled one.   The original ‘plan

Cold hands ....

Image
24th November 2017 (Friday) ... 08.30    Beautiful, crisp morning .... cold on the hands when hanging out a washing when it’s frosty.    I’m hoping that the Brrrr .... it was really cold this morning. sun lifts the frost quickly, and the washing dries in the brisk wind.    ‘Slight flap on’ .... we’re walking the dogs at 08.45. 19.30      Some parts of Scotland woke up to snow this morning, but we didn’t;  but it has been cold.... and there was a light dusting of snow on Largo Law.    Jim and I had a braw walk, with the dogs, in the shelter of Shell Bay woods.   Jim dropped me off at Ivy then went home to pick up Myra, picked me up again, and the three of us then went to Harbour House for Morning Coffee.    Myra had photos of Jim her in their young days;  if Myra hadn’t said who was in the photographs I wouldn’t Busy sky over the Firth of Forth. have recognised either of them.   I guess the fact that they were both considerably younger, and Jim didn’t have a beard deceived

Morning cuppa with Jenny .... ....

Image
23rd November 2017 (Thursday) .... 09.30    We have a ‘bright spells, and very breezy’ morning .... and cold.    The rain has moved away, but there are Chapel Green - Earlsferry. showers around, which could well fall as snow on higher ground (the Grampians etc). I had a nice long(ish) walk, along the beach, ‘roond the Chapel’ and home via the golf course;  meeting, and chatting to Sally from Colinsburgh, who was out with her dog. Jenny (my Sussex daughter in law - JB's Mum)  is coming along from Dalgety Bay for a cuppa and catch up chat this morning, so I’d best get the ooverin’ and dustin’ done.    19.30     Jenny and I had a nice long natter over our morning cuppa .... so I am KIncraig Cliffs - Earlsferry. loaded with ‘news’,.... welll I should be ... the only thing is I can’t remember which corner of my brain I stored it in!  Our weather has been lovely today, but it has been cold.    We didn’t catch any showers, but it has been cold... especially when expos

Snap! .... another dreich morning

Image
22nd November 2017 (Wednesday) ... 08.30     Wellll .... the weather is as forecast;  wet and overcast.   I’m thinkin’ it’s a day for printing off, and writing, my Elie this morning ... and afternoon ... and evening! Christmas cards.    Ian, Jimmy’s son, phoned me to let me know that Jimmy has left me his car in his Will;  that is a pleasant surprise, though one I would have been happy to do without.    That said, I know the car, because I have been driving it around for a few years, so I’ll insure it and become a two car person .... for a very short time.    The Fiesta will go to the holiday camp for cars in Kirkcaldy....  eventually. I’ve been out to feed ‘Blob’ and wondering when I’ll be able to take another sunrise photograph .... this rain is forecast to be with us until tomorrow morning! Earlsferry High Street. 19.30     Mmmmm it has been damp.   In point of fact it started, to rain, at 07.30 and has been relentless ever since.    I went up to Elie, in the car, for

Peaceful morning .....

Image
21st November 2017 (Tuesday) .... 10.00     My word .... it is bleak Even on a dreich day the auld place is bonnie ... and peaceful. looking this morning;  overcast and wet.    Though not actually raining it has been, and looks like it could  again, at any time:  not the kind of weather to wander out in.   (Hmm .... that has to be an oxymoron).     That said I have been out for a walk, and although overcast, I enjoyed the mood;  even on a grey day  the auld place has much to offer in the way of peace, .... and contentment.    22.00    The weather remained dour all day, although we did have a slight clearing of the sky in the afternoon.    The ‘sooth side’ looked brighter and might even have had sunny spells. Elie this morning. When the weather did ‘slightly brighten up’ I went along to Elie in the car, got the paper, had a walk around the harbour, then went up to Kinneuchar to the ‘Quiet Garden’.... and took a few photos of Jimmy’s flowers.    The loch was covered in mi

Jimmy's funeral ..... .....

Image
20th November 2017 (Monday)    Hmmmm ... .we have a really dreich start to the morning, with rain of varying intensity, from Scotch Mist through to heavy; Dreich morning .... and yes... I did get wet.   I know this because I went for the ‘roond the Chapel’ walk.   There are ‘dry’ spells in the weather forecast, from midday,... and, at least it isn’t windy, (what little wind is from the East), ... nor cold. 19.30     Would you believe it .... the weather dried up, and, not only did we have dry spells, we even had sunny spells in the early part of the afternoon;   perfect weather for Jimmy’s funeral.    It was a beautiful Service, taken by our Minister, Rev Peter Mills ....... I sang both hymns, albeit quietly, (I cannae sing)... but gave it my best shot:  having said that, the singing was excellent as there was a big crowd in the kirk, to say ‘goodbye’ to Jimmy.   I want to take this opportunity to thank June and Lesley, Ronnie and Shirley, Audrey and John,  Ian and Gill for ‘ta

Absolute cracker of a morning ....

Image
19th November 2017 (Sunday) ... 09.30    My word .... I was tired last night, and slept like a log..... and slept ‘in’;   but  managed to get up for sunrise time Morning walk. on the beach.    In fact I was on the beach 40 minutes before sunrise time, watching the sky gradually change... that’s the ‘magic’ time;   the half hour before the sun rises.    In point of fact it’s not the sun that rises, it’s the Earth that spins round, making the sun appear to ‘rise’.   This morning’s ‘sunrise’ was, like yesterday’s, 5 minutes late .... the actual event having taken place behind clouds;  however the sun appearing above the clouds was bonnie, albeit late.... and a lassie walking her dog came along the beach at the perfect time to bring life into the ‘shot’ .... braw. Half an hour before sunrise. 20.30    Iain and I have had a quiet day;  Iain set up his camera to take photos of the birds in the morning, and I ordered more blank cards, and other stuff, on the computer .

'Trinity' Church Guild Coffee Morning .....

Image
18th November 2017 (Saturday) .... 09.00    There was hardly any wind when I was on the beach this morning, so, although the temperature was near freezing, The beach this morning. it doesn’t feel as cold as it did yesterday;  having said that the wind is forecast to get ‘up’ with the rising tide. Ian is coming down from Auchnagatt this morning, so it will be all action this weekend.    He’s only here until Jimmy’s funeral (Monday).    Hopefully the weather will stay fine... if cauld;  the forecast for the next couple of days is good.     Must ‘go’ slight ‘flap on’ ... got a Coffee Morning (laden with goodies) to ‘grace with my presence’. 20.30     Iain arrived at lunch time, and, having bought sandwiches (salmon) on the way down from Auchnagatt, we had those for lunch....followed by ‘goodies bought at the Coffee Morning.    A tasty lunch actually.    The Coffee Morning was excellent, but seemed quieter than usual;   that said, it was very enjoyable, with plenty of tea/coffee

Spectacular pre-sunrise sky ....

Image
Elie Bay - 20 minutes before sunrise. 17th November 2017 (Friday) .... 09.00    Oh my word it was spectacular on the beach, just before sunrise time, this morning;  yes it was cauld, but to be ‘stood staunin’ watching it all happen;   that was exquisite.   From that you will have deduced that we have a bonnie morning, albeit windy and cauld, in Elie and Earlsferry.     Clouds have started to move over but rain isn’t mentioned in the weather for today.... but if you do go out you have to be wrapped up. Balcarres Estate. 20.00    It has been a windy, dry and cold day, with good spells of sunshine.... a good drying day.    I didn’t have a washing to do! In the morning I went up to go round Chapel Green with Jim and the dogs, but he was on his way home by the time I got up there;  it was very windy up at that end of the village.   Myra made us a coffee, before we went up to Harbour House, to join Geoff ....  for another coffee.  I decided to get fuel for the car in the a
