Blustery showers ....

Image
30th September 2022 (Friday)     09.15.... It was breezy on the beach at sunrise... but not as cold as I’d expected it to be.   Caroline and Steve, here on holiday from Cumbria, joined me on the beach, with their new Westie; I first met Caroline and Steve 7 years ago, but hadn’t seen them for a few years, so we enjoyed a spectacular sunrise, while we catching up with each other’s ‘news’.   Since then spells of rain have started to blow through on the wind so it isn’t a pleasant day out; but it’s bonnie as long as you are sheltered from the wind... and occasional spells o’ rain.... sometime heavy.   Bring on the sunny spells. 14.30    At last, after a wet and windy few hours, the sky is starting to show promising signs.... I’m looking forward to an evening of sunny spells.   I haven’t done very much today.... apart from wash the dishes (switched 'on' dishwasher) and watch the snooker.   The tables are surrounded by the most boring advertising graphics I’ve ever seen.... “CAZOO

Quiet start to the day ....

29th September 2022 (Thursday)    06.30 ....The Eastern sky is starting to brighten;  and I am having another cuppa before taking a wander to the beach.  The sun appears over the horizon at 07.10 but whether that event will be visible is doubtful;  the Aberdour weather cam shows a bank of low cloud towards the East.... however we could get lucky if there’s a ‘hole’ in the cloud bank.    Actually, it looks like being a nice enough day....there’s a light breeze from the SE and .... the air feels slightly warmer. 08.30    It wasn’t the most exciting sunrise this morning;  however, if the weather forecast turns out as predicted it is a bonnier sunrise than we’ll have tomorrow morning.   As you’d expect at this time of the morning, the beach was quiet.... only myself and three dogs walking their ‘humans’.   It's a nice morning for being out actually. Leven Golf Course. 19.30   I went to Leven to visit Alice.... and, after lunch Alice had to visit a friend to the Leven Beach Caravan Par

Cloudy ....

28th September 2022 (Wednesday)     09.15 .... We have a cloudy start to the day....with the clouds being heavy enough cloud to give us a few spots o’ rain now and again;  that said it’s a nice enough morning to be out and about.... and... sunny spells could come our way later. I’ve been for the papers (in the car), then had a short walk to the beach; the plan is to get the bike out when the aforementioned sunny spells arrive.    Right now it’s breakfast time.   20.30   The Ferry Road sewage repair work continued today;  ‘Ipsum’ arrived with a huge drain sooker, and camera to check the drain... the broken sewage pipe has been cut, and it will be the ‘Clancy’ workmen’s job to fit the new bit of pipe and fill in the holes ready for the tarmac.   Although the ‘Diversion’ signs are still in place the cones have been moved aside at the top and bottom leaving a space for vehicles to get through.  That has been the excitement for today. I never did get out on the bike;   for some reason

Bright and breezy ....

27th September 2022 (Tuesday)     08.30 .... The holes in Ferry Road aren’t Repaired sewage pipe. the most exciting to look at....they attract a few admiring glances, but never a crowd.  Actually 'The Ferry' could raise a small crowd nowadays;  a few years ago we didn’t have enough people to make a queue.   The Ferry Road holes have been recorded for posterity.    Oh.... I nearly forgot;  it’s a bright and breezy morning with a cold breeze.... and there's a chance of light showers later. 16.30     I took a chance and hung out a washing this morning.... and took it in just as the first spots of a passing shower started.    Ironing is a warm job so I’ll do that in a wee while.   The wind is taking a few degrees off the temperature, so I haven’t been out on the bike; however, as I tend to feel drowsy and fall asleep in the afternoon, I’m not bothering too much about not going out on the bike.    The wind is bound to moderate in the next few days.     There has been a lack o

Colder than yesterday....

26th September 2022 (Monday)      08.30.... there’s a chillier air this morning but it’s dry, and the sky has the ‘sunny spells’ look, so I’ll leave any biking until the air warms up.   I louped intae the car to go for the paper and had the mandatory run to the harbour;  all is good down there.... apart from the cold wind.     The car is now moored up at St Margaret’s ‘cos Ferry Road is going to be ‘closed’ to traffic sometime today, and for most of the week, to allow Scottish Water to do things.    The camera has been warmed up.....and its breakfast time.    Oh ....I think this might be a rest day. 20.15     There was a bonnie ‘light’ over the villages when I went out on the bike   just before lunch.... I only went as far as Chapel Green because I started out with a low battery, the plan being to flatten it before re-charging.     This I did and I have a fully charged battery for the next time I’m out on the bike;   and that depends on the weather.    I am happy with the photos I g

Definitely colder ....

Image
25th September 2022 (Sunday)     09.30 ....we had a bonnie pre-sunrise sky albeit a “red sky in the morning” one, but the sky was clouding over and the actual sunrise was obscured by cloud;  since the sky has more or less totally clouded over, the wind has freshened and.... it’s colder.   I went for the paper on the bike... and was lucky enough to meet Carol at the Breakwater, where we had a long and interesting chat.  I’m now going to have another cuppa before getting ready to go and ‘annoy’ Alice. 20.00   As planned I went to Leven to do a wee bit shopping before Ferry Road is ‘Closed’, then went to ‘annoy’ Alice.  By this time the sun had burned off the cloud and we had a bonnie day... albeit a breezy one.   After a cuppa and a catch up of each other’s new’ ‘news, we went to west Wemyss fort a short walk about... at both the harbour and kirk ends of the village.   The ‘plan’ is to go back on a slightly less windy day to do the Coastal path from Dysart to West Wemyss. ‘middle’ bit

Beautiful morning ....

24th September 2022 (Saturday)     08.30    I went the beach to catch sunrise....on what is a quiet, peaceful start to the Glasgow holiday weekend;  and I wasn’t the only one enjoying the early morning ambience.   It was a bonnie morning to be jogging, walking the dog(s).... or, like me, just enjoying being on Elie and Earlsferry beach.   It’s a ‘play day’. 21.00    The villages seemed busy when I went for the paper (on the bike about10.00) so I decided to come home by way of Elie Estate;  only to find that and it was busy too.... with a group of walkers striding out to ‘somewhere.’    I stopped at the ‘loch run’ to take some photographs... and let them get away, and let the birds settle down.   I like hearing the birds on the Estate.   Anyway I took a batch of photos and arrived home at ‘morrrrrrrning coffee’ time.... and had time to browse the photos I’d taken before a ‘lite bite’ lunch. In the afternoon I went to The Hutte to do a couple of Sudoku’s.... and fell sound asleep.

Bright and sunny ....

23rd September 2022 (Friday)      08.30   This is the Autumnal Equinox  (when day and night are  the same length) ....and, this is exciting;  it’s only 88 days until the shortest day (and 92 until Christmas).    Right now we have a bonnie, “bright and sunny with a light breeze” start to the day....this could be a play day.  Actually I’m feeling slightly sluggish (normal for me after a vaccination) but that isn’t going to stop me going up to Chapel Green on the bike;  after another cuppa and a couple o’ paracetamol. 12.30    Instead of going up to Chapel Green on the bike I had a walk on the beach this morning.... the first time in a while I’ve done that.    The pills clobbered the headache but I have no doubt I’ll fall asleep this afternoon....but I’m hoping to feel more or less ‘normal’ tomorrow.   I haven’t been on the bike for a couple o’ days;   I might do that in the evening. Ferry Road is going to be ‘closed’ for most of next week;   Scottish Water are doing something with the

Damp ....

Image
22nd September 2022 (Thursday)     07.15 .... we’ve had a long spell o’ light rain overnight... and it’s still raining, in fact it’s dreich.   However the rain is slowly moving away towards “Sunny Sussex” to leave us with sunny spells by midday.  Sunny spells would be very welcome....because my camera is due for delivery around midday! I’m feeling fine this morning.... which slightly surprises me ‘cos I usually have a ‘slightly under the weather’ couple of days after vaccinations. This morning I feel almost playful.   08.15     The papers have been uplifted and the harbour visited.... it was raining at that time so I only took a couple of photos at the harbour, to let you see what kind of morning we have.    The sun is trying to break through.... and will do before the postie delivers a parcel to ‘Ivy Cottage’. 11.30   The weather is slowly improving..... but the sunny spells might be a wee bit later in arriving;  more likely the middle of the afternoon than midday.  I’m having morn

Sunny and warm ....

Image
21st September 2022 (Wednesday)   08.30 ... It’s sunny and warm this morrrrrrrning,  so with a light breeze, a perfect drying day ... or ‘play’ day:  even a work day if you are so inclined.   I’m not.  I’d go out on the bike but I’d better leave that until afternoon; in case I forget about the jabs.   Right now I’m thinking.... ‘food’.  17.30     Ladywalk Clinic was busy with COVID/Flu vaccinations, but everything was flowing smoothly and I was ‘done and dusted’, 7 minutes after my allotted time.   When I was in it looked like everyone was from Elie and Earlsferry.... but it was hard to recognise folk with their masks on.    I waved to Mabel, who I haven’t seen for a while (I think it was Mabel)... and I was sitting next to Irene so the time passed quickly;   Irene had mislaid Ken!    So far I don’t appear to have any after effects.... though I do feel drowsy.   An early night in bed with a book, will sort the drowsiness. We’ve had a sunny and pleasantly warm   afternoon, but I see

Grey and damp ....

20th September 2022 (Tuesday)    08.30 .... There’s been some light rain overnight and the sky is still heavily overcast .... so there’s the chance of more light rain;   however, the air doesn’t feel as autumnal as it has been for the past few days.... and, I’m feeling positive and expect a few sunny spells in the afternoon.    This might be a good day to do a wee bit of retail therapy;   it has to be wee as prices continue their upward spiral. 21.15    The early morning cloud evaporated, and we had a lovely afternoon;  in fact I went to the beach.... something I haven’t been doing very often,  since having the virus 6 months ago.   I must be getting better.   That reminds me;  I go to Ainster to get my two pre winter booster jabs tomorrow. My initial ‘plan’ was to go for some retail therapy, but I changed my mind when I saw that the ‘Cheap Shop’ was extremely busy.    I’ll do my shopping first thing in the morning in future;  as I did during the pandemic.  So, instead of shopping,

19th September 2022 (Monday)    07.30 .... ‘Light cloud and light winds’, Photo courtesy BBC TV. with a low chance of precipitation, is the weather forecast for our area today;  I’m hoping for ‘sunny spells’ in the afternoon, even though they don’t get a mention.   I’m feeling brighter, and think the cold will be well away before Wednesday and will be fine for the flu and COVID jabs.   Today will be another ‘rest day’;  there’s the pageantry of HM’s State funeral from 11.00 to watch....now and again.   We don’t have ‘The Queue’ anymore;   there was something relaxing about watching so many people filing slowly past HM’s coffin: with the ‘changing of the guard ‘ every 20 minutes adding solemnity at the end of this great British tradition....‘The Queue’:  An out pouring of grief and love on a grand scale.    I doubt if there will ever be another ‘Queue’  like this again. Photo courtesy BBC TV. 18.30     We’ve had a lovely day.... sunny and warm for most of the afternoon; but some ther

18th September 2022 (Sunday)   11.30 .... It’s a quiet, cloudier morning, but there’s only a light breeze so very little wind chill.... a good ‘play day’.   Unfortunately I have a cauld so playing is on hold for a couple o’ days.   Having said that, I went for the paper on the bike and enjoyed  the exercise; hopefully the sun will break through later; if it does it could be reasonably warm.   I’m going to have morrrrrrrrrrrning coffee; oh, almost forgot;   I slept in ... didn’t get up until 07.45. so I am running late. 19.30   I have done a wee bit o’ ousework today, but most of the day has been spent resting and staying warm;  I have to shake off this cold by Wednesday, which is when I get the flu and COVID jabs.   I won’t get them if I have a cold. The ‘plan’ was to go down to the harbour and be part of the Community ‘silent Minute’ at 20.00 but I thought, because I want to be fit to have the jabs on Wednesday, I’d better miss out the harbour:   I’m going to do my ‘silent minute’

Cool Northerly breeze ....

Image
17th September 2022 (Saturday)     08.30 .... it’s a lovely mornin’;  and.... ....this one is for Honor! the evocative sound of a skein o’ geese greeted me when I went out to open the gate...reminding me that it’s a lovely autumn morning.   There’s a lot o’ cloud about and a cool breeze from the North.....so not ‘iggzactly’ warm, though that should change once the sun breaks through.   I’ll wait until that happens before going out on the bike.   I might have a walk to the beach after breakfast....well wrapped up against the wind chill. 16.00     I didn’t go for a daunder... nor did I go out on the bike;   but I did loup into the car to go to the bakers to buy two scones and two Empire biscuits.    This diet I’m on is flexible!.... sometimes I’m on it ... sometimes not.    Today is a not day.    I have sorted out the ladder so that it is no longer in the way of getting to the ‘romantic corner’.    Accessing the romantic corner is a bit late now anyway;   the ‘romantic’ season is past i
