Easter Sunday ....

Image
1st April 2018 (Easter Sunday) .... 07.30We have a lovely Spring morning in the ‘Auld Villages’.... bright and sunny, with light touch of air frost, a perfect Easter Sunday morning.A breeze, from the Northeast, means that it will be cool down at the harbour for our Easter Service;so wrap up warm. The bike has been liberated from the shed;I am feeling good .... andmy aches and pains are in the right places.... Yep .... I’m ready to ‘go’.

20.30I have been a busy boy on what has been a typical, early Spring day.My day started with the Easter Service at the Harbour, then breakfast in the kirk hall;both events being well attended. Most of the folk that went to the Harbour Service, also went to the kirk hall.Funnily enough it was not cold at the harbour this morning;probably because the wind was light.
The main Service in the Church was at 11.00 so I went back to Ivy for a break, before going to the Easter Service. This was Rev Peter Mills last Service before he retires;St Monans and East Neuk T…

Feeling animated

Image
31st March 2018 (Saturday)09.30 .... I’m feeling fairly animated this morning;alas, the weather is not suitable for playing outside:being ‘dull with rain’, now and again’.The wind has backed to the Northeast, and it is cold, .... but, easier to breathe. I’ll have a bumble down to the beach after breakfast;choosing my time with care.... to miss the showers. You never know we might get a sunny spell later;having said that,I don’t think the bike will be coming out today at all.Orf to have breakfast, having overslept .... again. This is perfect ‘sleeping in’ weather.

11.30I’ve yet to get to the beach, but I have been working on the computer. As expected, the villages are busy with holiday makers:I know this because I see ‘strangers’ walking on Ferry Road, .... strangers wearing waterproofs etc.   This is not holiday weather.I’m going to see if it’s dry enough to go to the beach;we’re having a brighter spell (paler shade of grey) just now.

17.30I did get out for a walk;in fact I did the ‘roo…

Overcast , wet and cold ....

Image
30th March 2018 (Friday) .... 09.00Mmmmmm .... it’s not the kindest of weather for the start of the Easter Holiday;overcast, with rain at times, and a brisk breeze, from the Southeast, so it’s cauld.I have yet to go to the beach;when I do go it will be a quick walk to the Cockstail rocks and back.It does not look like being a day for the bike. However, the central heating is ‘on’, the kettle will have boiled,.... yes,... I am warm, and content.     Should I leave the warmth and mosey down to the beach?   After a cuppa ... perhaps.
11.00Jings .... the weather has deteriorated and is miserable now ..... I haven’t been to the beach;but I have had a couple of ‘cuppas’.It’s looking like being a day for computer stuff, and I’ve had the seeds of an idea that should keep me occupied for the duration of the inclement weather;wellll?.... maybe not quite.I can understand folk wanting to get away, to somewhere warm,  for the Easter break:   having said that, the auld place looks good in any kin…

Bright and sunny ....

Image
29th March 2018 (Thursday) ....08.00We have a ‘bright and sunny, but nippy’ spring morning; there’s a fairly heavy frost,(-2c), which should lift rapidly once the sun gets going.I’ll go to Leven in the car.... that way I will be back home sooner;it is a good day for going out on the bike ..... once the temperature rises:However, there’s a ‘slight flap on’ as I, sort of, overslept.... another reason for taking the car.     Better have a quick breakfast.

10.00Welll.... that’s me ready for Easter weekend.... haircut, food , and car ‘moored up’.Today was the first time I’ve had my haircut it the upstairs part of the hairdressers;in fact I didn’t even know there was an ‘upstairs’.The upstairs must be the ‘Tardis’ of hair salons;it’s huge..... I was taken aback by the size of it.The lassie worked her ‘magic’ once more, and I can see my lugs again. On the way home I got caught with the traffic lights at Scoonie. In the queue, six cars in front of me, were three cyclists.I’d have bumbled acros…

Leven mission ....

Image
28th March 2018 (Wednesday) .... 08.00There’s a 50/50(ish) mix of blue sky and clouds this morning, so we should get a few decent sunny spells... and light showers later. There is a cool breeze from the Northwest, but nothing that a good jacket and scarf won’t nullify.Nullify?I like that word .... I must use it more. I’m going to Leven as planned;hopefully to get a haircut, definitely to do a shopping.Better go .... 'slight flap on' now.

20.30     Got the shopping done this morning, but no haircut;   however I booked in to get a haircut tomorrow morning at 09.30.   Depending on the weather, I might bike along to Elie, and ‘catch’ the ‘X60’ bus.    The trip to Leven went smoothly;   I would have been happier if I’d got the haircut, but the salon was busy with girls having their hair done.    The journey home was ‘slow and steady’ which is the way I like it;   the traffic got caught behind a ‘Vegcraft’ tractor with trailer, bumbling along at 30 mph.    I had to accelerate to ‘go, …

Michael's birthday .....

Image
27th March 2018 (Tuesday) “Happy Birthday” to Michael who will be ... no you cannae be that old .... I’d only be 5 (?) when you were born.   Have a great day....old is fun!
08.30.... as forecast the East wind has brought rain in from the North sea overnight, and it’s still raining .... but, the wind is going to veer to the West later in the afternoon so the rain should peter out.I’ll take the car up to Elie and pick up the paper, then it will be a computer morning.I’m wondering.... I need a haircut.... this might be a good day to have that done.I’ll consider that over breakfast.Everyone will be glad to know that ‘Hercules' (hormone) has calmed down!

11.00It is definitely raining.... I set off to go to the beach, and changed my mind, ‘cos it was heavy ... not good for my delicate hair!I had been to Elie (in the car),... in fact I went to Elie harbour. That’s something I won’t be doing again until after the Easter holidays.... the road past the Ship Inn is ridiculous if you meet some…

Lovely Spring morning .....

Image
26th March 2018 (Monday) .... 08.30There has been a touch of early morning frost.... which will lift quickly, as we have a ‘bright and sunny, wall to wall bloo sky’.. ... in fact it’s a bonnie, early spring morning. There’s not much wind, so I’ll get the bike out, .... once the air heats up.This kind of morning has me in a ‘working’ mood, and I feel reasonably energetic:  if I was a bird I'd be building a nest.... and thinking amorous bird thoughts.  I’ll make a cuppa, and admire the pansies I planted yesterday.

21.00Having admired the pansies, and coming away feeling horticultural, I decided to go to Leven:stuff needing sorted with the Bank of Scotland.I might be in a state of ‘love’ with the teller.... she was very helpful:to celebrate this ‘state’ I went over the street, to Costa coffee, and had a Flat White. You will remember that I mentioned the Spring weather got me into a working mood, welll .... I spent most of the afternoon tidying up, and rearranging ‘The Hutte’.The job is…

BST (British Summer Time) .....

Image
25th March 2018 (Sunday) .... 09.30 .... well that’s wrong for a start;I’ve just seen the computer clock and it’s 10.30:guess who forgot to put the clocks forward last night!... so I’ll begin again.(I’ll sort the clocks later.)

10.30We have ‘wall to wall’ blue sky, with a light westerly breeze, a bonnie Spring morning by the look of it.I say ‘look of it’ because I haven’t been anywhere yet, having got out of bed at, what I thought was 09.10..... feeling sluggish;like I’ve got a cold coming on.I’ll take it easy today, pottering about the garden, planting the pansies that Irene brought, and tidying ‘The Hutte’.When I think of it..... it will soon be lunch time... and I haven’t even had breakfast yet!Must ‘go’ .... “flap on”..... need food.

11.15That’s it; 'fast' has been broken, and Ivy Cottage is now on British Summer Time .... including the car!

14.30We have had much satisfaction from doing things in the garden:Yes ... ‘we’:I have been ably assisted by ‘Blob’, who devours anythi…

'Troops' ....

Image
24th March 2018 (Saturday) .... 08.00Big ‘Flap on’ this morning;the Troops are coming! The weather forecast is excellent, ‘bright and sunny, with a light breeze’;a nice day for pottering around Kellie Castle Garden, looking for signs of Spring. I’m feeling bright and breezy this morning, after a long and good night’s sleep;I must have been tired after the excitement of the past couple of days.Oh .... I’d better rattle round with the ‘oover, and have a quick flick round with a duster, before the ‘Troops’ arrive;‘ousework has been neglected recently. All of a sudden, a ‘weakness’ has come over me, at the thought of ‘work’ ..... I need a cuppa.

21.00My word .... I’m one tired ‘boy’ tonight. The ‘Troops’ arrived about 11.00, .....bearing gifts, ‘fired up’, and rarin’ to go.We had a quick cuppa before going up to Kellie Castle garden. This is the first time I’ve been at the garden this early so I was able to get some early Spring photos, of the garden, and a few of ‘The Troops’.There was much no…

2,524,608,000 seconds old today ....

Image
23rd March 2018 (Friday) ... 08.30“Happy Birthday” to my friend Joe in Sunny Sussex.Sometime today, Joe, andalso ‘This Boy’, will be two
billion, five hundred and twenty four, six hundred and eight thousand, seconds old (2,524,608000);this calculation includes 20 leaps days.Therein is a clue as to how old... er ... nearly old Joe, and ‘The Boy’ will be. Jings, even at this age I am excited;I’m about to open ‘birthday’ cards, and a parcel.
The sky is beginning to break up after overnight rain;it looks like the sun will break through by 10.30.10.30 is a crucial time this morning;that’s when Irene, and the girls tee off!

09.30We have sunshine ... and it’s warm.

11.30I’m just this minute in from a run up to the ‘Fudge Burger’ factory. The intention was to have coffee and a goodie in the Cafe, but it was full.... so I bought two Fudge Burgers, and came home, via Ceres. The rain hadn’t cleared away in the Cupar area, so I didn’t go for a walk:   in fact there are heavy showers creeping around, …

Feeling dynamic .... slightly

Image
22nd March 2018 (Thursday) .... I went round the villages on the bike before breakfast, and i can tell you that all is well at the Centre of the Universe. The weather leaves a bit to be desired, being that the sky overcast, and there’s brisk breeze from the Southwest.... but it isn’t awfie cold.....(it isn’t awfie warm either). We should get a few ‘sunny/bright spells’ later;but, light rain is forecast for evening and overnight.I’m feeling slightly dynamic this morning ..... I’ll have a walk round the garden;that should bring me back to earth. There’s a lot to do in the garden.I might do a wee bit out there later .... its the garden rubbish bucket (broon) this week.

21.00This ‘boy’ is tired, having been reasonably active all day.Instead of having a walk round the garden I circumnavigated the villages on my bike.Even though the sky was overcast, there was a ‘bonnie’ kind of light about, so I enjoyed myself with the camera.I don’t know why I keep repeating that fact, because, as you already…

Iain's birthday .....

Image
21st March 2018 (Wednesday) ...... “Happy Birthday to Iain (Auchnagatt) ....who is... is ... one year older today!”Have a lovely day,...  oh you're working? .... enjoy looking at the boats in the harbour.I don’t doubt that Jackie and the ‘Troops’ will want to spoil you! 08.00Where is the sun?We have an overcast sky this morning:I’d got used to, and rather preferred the ‘bloo’ sky we had. The overcast sky has upset me;I’m feeling ‘sluggish’.Oh welll .... at least it’s dry, and, wecould get a few bright spells by the look of it.I need breakfast ...a touch of caffeine o get me into gear.

17.00It has been cold today;and it was raining when I went to Leven.Oh that reminds me:not counting the roadworks at Scoonie roundabout (and brae) .... where, having just missed the temporary traffic lights, I had to wait for 7 minutes until they changed back to green .... my trip to Leven was an unqualified success. The car has had the salt washed off it, and I got all the shopping that I wanted;plus …
