31st July 2018 (Tuesday)      07.00 .... the sky is blue, (there are a few clouds The Ferry High Street. around) the weather forecast is good;      yes, I think we can look forward to a nice day.     There is a light breeze from the Southwest, so it will be comfortably warm.     As for ‘me’;    I’m feeling brighter this morning ....not as excited as a bag o’ ferrets, but definitely on the mend.     22.00     It has been a nice enough day, but it was definitely cooler than of late;    especially when the sky clouded over, later in the afternoon.... and when the wind got up a bit. I biked along to Elie and had coffee in Harbour House with the ‘Troops’.     I had intended going home by Elie Estate after I left Harbour House, but changed my mind when I looked at the sky.     It looked like there could be a shower or two.     As it was showers never came our way today:   I’ll do Elie Estate tomorrow.    Assuming the weather is agreeable. 7th tee. Once again I’ve had a

30th July 2018 (Monday) ....    09.30      The garden is wet after overnight The 'Royal Burgh' this morning. rain;   much needed rain I might add.... and, I have been for my morning walk.... up to Chapel Green, and home by way of the beach.    This morning I remembered to take the car key with me so that I could start her, and turn the wheels.     I met Julie, who was out jogging.... and also met, and talked, to a few holiday makers out for their morning walk.     It is a nice morning for being out, and the forecast for ‘today’ is reasonable;    mostly dry, with sunny spells, but we could get a few light showers later. Earlsferry High Street. 15.00    The Dundee Courier has an interesting article (by Craig Smith) about ‘second homes’ in Fife.    Let’s clarify a few points, and I am writing about Elie and The Royal Burgh of Earlsferry.    There are ‘second homes’, where the family lives out with the villages most of the time,  but uses the ‘second home’ on a regular

29th July 2018 (Sunday) .... 08.30     There’s a noticeable drop in the temperature this morning;   the woollie hat and fleece had to be donned for the early The 'Royal Burgh' bathed in early morning  sunlight. morning walk.      I went up to the Pony Field for a change of scene.    It was ‘sunny and warmish’ when   first went out;   by the time I was back in Ivy the sun was behind a   bank of cloud .... the weather forecast is for rain to move in from the south by mid morning.     Actually, I’m lying low today .... I feel as if I have a cold coming on.     It’s a fine day for working on the computer, and watching the end of ‘le Tour’.     Oh, I've just noticed  .... it's raining!   20.30      Wellll .... this has been a lazy .... no ... restful day for ‘the Boy’:    all I’ve done, apart from my morning walk, is work on photographs, had a long siesta, and watch the last Stage of the ‘Tour.     After ‘lunch’ I fell asleep for nigh on two hours ..... and I felt

Fresh morning ....

28th July 2018 (Saturday) ... 09.30.     Last night’s rain, (and thunder) has Nice morning after last night's thunder... and rain. left us with a nice fresh, morning;    a bonnie morning for a walk along the beach.       This I know because I’m just in from a walk along the beach .... and I wasn’t alone.     Loads of dogs, taking their owners out, for an early morning breath of fresh air.... and a few joggers. The wind is off the East, and the sky looks like it could give us some more rain .... minus the rolls of thunder.     I don’t want rain because I’m hoping to bike up for the paper,....   and   morning coffee.     Actually,  I’d better have breakfast .... ‘Puku’ is feeling neglected. Ferry boundary marker. 19.30     We’ve had a lovely, if breezy, afternoon and evening.    The morning, and early part of afternoon, was spoiled by some periods of rain;   this prevented me getting the bike out and having coffee in Harbour House.    And I didn’t get a paper!    Howe

Lunar eclipse tonight .....

27th July 2018 (Friday) ..... 08.30 .... my word... this has the makings of a Chapel Green... from The Terrace, Elie. hot day.... there’s nae wind, few clouds, and it’s warm already;    that said we should take advantage of this .... the weather is due to change later today, (tomorrow is going to be wet) .... with thundery downpours.     The weeds .... er .. native flowers need the rain.    There’s a   lunar eclipse tonight;     the moon rises, in the south east at 21.24, by which time it will be totally eclipsed by the earth’s shadow.      Whether we see it depends on the weather.... and the forecast is not great for us at that time of the evening.    It could be cloudy. I haven’t been anywhere yet;  only pottering about in the garden.     The beach will be busy later, so I’d better have a quick wander down there after breakfast. Elie. 20.30     It has been warm hot;  26c in Ivy garden, and the wind, from the Southeast, felt hot.    This has not been a good afternoon

Warm/hot ....

26th July 2018 (Thursday) ..... 09.30     My word it is warm already.... even when the sun is behind clouds .... and there’s a lot of them.     Clouds that is.     You can Cloudy but warm ..... see that there is a change on with the weather;   the clouds have a more meaningful look..... but the sun could burn them off.     It’s the temperature that will bother us today:    rain isn’t forecast until later tomorrow.    I managed down to the beach this morning;     the tide was out so there was plenty of firm sand to bumble along, but my knee is in ‘backwards’ bending mode:   must be the weather. 'This morning' from the Ferry bents. 21.30      It has been another warm day;   even with the wind being from the East.    It was hot in Glenrothes.... well away from the onshore breeze.     I must go back for a day in Glenrothes, .... browsing the building sites I once worked on.     I’m wondering if I could find the first house Mex and I worked on? ..... I think I could.

Out early ....

25th July 2018 (Wednesday) .... 08.30     It was chilly when I left Ivy this The old drinking fountain - Elie. morning;   that was at 05.40 right enough, and the sun was behind some light cloud.     Since then the sun has risen above, and burnt back the clouds, and it is now comfortably warm.     It will be hot later. I went to the harbour, and photographed my way home from there.     The villages look ‘different’ in, romantic(?), early morning light.     I got the papers on the way home.... and went back to Elie for ‘morning coffee’   (Harbour House)later.    G eoff and I were the only ‘Troops’ today;  we had two cups of coffee, and a long chat with Abby, who was working, and Alan, who joined us after taking his dogs to Dawn’s for clipping.   This reminded me that I am due for a haircut;  probably next week. 21.30      Stage 17 of the ‘Tour’, though the shortest at 65 kilometers, has been the stiffest.     It consisted of three climbs with two descents.     The start was u

Fresh after overnight rain .....

24th July 2018 (Tuesday) .... 08.30     there’s been a decent amount of rain overnight, but we really need a deluge (or three) because the ground is parched. Elie this morning.     That, the deluge, might happen on Friday/Saturday.     Right now we have a ‘bright, breezy and fresh, morning’ ... definitely a morning for being active:     I’ll bike up for the paper at ‘morning coffee time’.... until then I’ll mess about with the computer room window.   19.00    I enjoyed my coffee break in Harbour House this morning, in fact I was badly in need of it because the bike journey was hazardous.    The run home on the bike was even more hazardous, so I’m thinking biking will have to be done early in the morning .... before the cars are on the move.    Most of the drivers are considerate, but it only takes one to make what should be a routine, and safe, journey, into something else.    That said, even cycling on roads closed to traffic can be dangerous as happened on the le Tour this af

Whispering kind of morning .....

23rd July 2018 (Monday) .....      08.30     The village was quiet when I went Tranquil morning. to the harbour this morning;   even the birds seemed to be whispering.      It is a bonnie morning .... and it is peaceful.     There is a light westerly breeze, and a few clouds here are there, but the sun will soon sort the clouds out, and ... it will be too warm in ‘nae time’.    There could be some lovely cooling rain later in the evening! I’ll make the most of the ‘rest day’ (Tour de France), by pottering about in the garden.     There’s much pottering to do, and when it gets too hot, I’ll have a cuppa in the Hutte.    ‘We’ have a heavy day in the Pyrenees tomorrow! 19.30     Oh my word it’s warm tonight;    and I’m tired after doing much work this afternoon.     I decided to paint the outside of computer room window, and that involved a lot of preparation.         At least the window is now clean, inside and out, the net curtain washed, and the outside (of the window) rea

Cracker of a morning ....

22nd July 2018 (Sunday) .... 09.30     It’s beautiful, ‘bright and breezy’ morning;    a grand morning for doing things.     I’m well ready for breakfast after my It is a nice morning for a walk. morning walk to Chapel Green;   it’s taking me longer to do this walk.     I’ll need to take a flask o’ coffee with me in future:   for some reason, the coffee I make tastes reasonable from a flask.      I tangled up with some kind of ill natured wee dog at Chapel Green;   jings it made a lot of noise.     It must have woken up its owner who was sleeping(?) in a tent   nearby.     At one point I think that it thought about nipping my heels.     (Not its best idea).    After snapping and yelping its way behind me for about 50 metres it eventually gave up:   it had done its job I guess.      Defended its owners property. The walk along the beach was pleasurable, with   loads of people out walking, with and without dogs:    one couple doing callisthenics ... that was different.    Yes it’

21st July 2018 (Saturday) .... 08.30    There are four cruise ships moored Elizabeth, Andrew and Gareth man the CA bookstall.  up at the various anchorages and ports near ‘Three Bridges’ this morning: “Sea Cloud” (sailing vessel), Royal Princess, Celebrity Eclipse, and Balmoral.     It’s a pity, for the tourists on board the vessels, that the weather is overcast, with the threat of light rain (Scotch Mist).... but it will brighten up later.      I’ve been out on the bike, just to Chapel Green, and though overcast is isn’t cold...and .... is forecast to be warm/hot once the sun does break through. 21.30     This has been another  another hard day on the 'Tour';    never mind it finishes next Sunday (29th) so everything will be back to normal after that.     There have been five cruise ships in the Firth today, “Viking Sea” making a later appearance on the ‘Marine Traffic’ site.     The “Royal Princess” is the largest of the five, the windjammer “Sea Cloud II”, being the
