Frost, snow, ... and wind.

Image
28th February 2018 (Wednesday) .... 08.30      Oh my word .... we have a Ferry Road. blanket of snow over the East Neuk this morning .... and it ain’t a warm blanket.         We have heavy, squally showers, (I got caught in one on the beach), and the wind is causing, what we would call, “blin drift” in the auld days... “whiteout” nowadays.      The snow blowing off the golf course is already causing small drifts on Ferry Road.... so we don’t want a long spell of snow.     The wind (from the East/Northeast) is F3 – 4 so the temperature, which is below freezing (-2 in Ivy garden) .... add wind chill to that, and... yep ...   it’s cauld. Snow squall over the Ferry beach. The main roads will be clear .... getting from ‘The Royal Burgh’ to the main road is  tricky! 12.00        I walked along to Elie, via the golf course and the beach, and I can definitely tell you that it is ‘cold out’.... and especially so on the beach:   but I did get some nice photographs.     I can also

27th February 2018 (Tuesday) .... 08.30     Would you believe it .... we’ve had a sprinkling of snow on the ‘Royal Burrow Burgh’.     This was not on the ‘plan’.    Elie beach.   The Southeast of England, including Sunny Sussex, has a had a real dose of white stuff,.... as was forecast:   we might waken up to more tomorrow.      Oh .... and it is bitterly cold on the beach;   but the clouds are stunning.     Well .... they were at sunrise time.     I’m wondering if it’s too cold for the bike .... I might go somewhere in the car later... this might be a good day for cloud photos.     Crail is coming to mind.    19.30    Ivy hatches are well battened down tonight;  it’s cold, and it has been snowing on and orf all afternoon:  we could wake up to a white ‘Royal Burrow’   tomorrow morning.    The good news is that the temperature is not forecast to rise above freezing tomorrow.... and there’s to be a brisk East wind so much wind chill.    I Snow shower over Pittenweem. might n

26th February 2018 (Monday) .... 08.30     This morning we have grey and damp, with a raw wind off the East.     This is the week that has a been forecast to  Earlsferry, from The Toft, Elie,...  this morning. bring a return to winter weather all down the east coast of Britain, with snow showers becoming frequent by the middle of the week.       Wednesday is the start of the worst of bad weather for the East Neuk (Crail).       The East of England, and sunny Sussex, look like having the worst of it, beginning today.       That’s the weather sorted.      I didn’t go down to the beach this morning   .... it was spitting rain at that time;    but I have warmed the car up.     21.00    I must have been busy today;   I’ve forgotten all that I’ve done.    Oh .... in the morning I went to the Surgery and made my ‘blood-test’ appointment.    From there I went out to the Woodhaven car park, then down to the harbour .... I was in the car .... to take some photos.    My word .... it was b

Bright and breezy .... so is the weather

25th February 2018 (Sunday) ..... 08.00     There’s a brisk Southeast wind this morning, but, although around F3-4, it doesn’t feel as cold as it did The Deil's Lodge - Balcarres. yesterday;   probably because there isn’t a frost this morning.     I didn’t linger on the beach;    I am keen to get the front door finished before the wind changes direction!     It’s a nice morning, albeit breezy.     Must go .... medium flap on:   working ‘stuff’ to get done this bonnie morning. 10.45      Who's been a busy boy then?     The door lock working perfectly, with everything tidied up.... and the floors washed.   I thought I might as well do the floors as it is a good drying day, and the weather, for the next few days, is not forecast to be of the floor washing kind.     As soon as the floors are dry, I’ll batten the hatches.... and have a celebratory cup of Hutte Finest;  and a chocolate biscuit.    I might even go for a run in the car in the afternoon:  I'm thinking Balcar

"JB's" (sometimes "Gromit") birthday .....

24th February (John’s Birthday ... aka Saturday)   .....     Happy Birthday ‘JB’ .... enjoy ‘your’ day.   How old? .... oh my word .... no that can't be right!    21?  Fudge Doughnut factory. 08.00     We have another bonnie morning;    there’s a touch of frost, but the wind is light so it didn’t feel that cold on the beach ..... not as cold as it has been for the past couple of mornings.      It looks like being a bonnie day ....and it could be warm .... sheltered from the breeze.          My mission is to make a start on the front door lock;    yes .... I will begin with a mug of Hutte coffee to get the brain in gear! Beautiful 'sunrise time' sky. 16.00     The door lock has been changed .... and is nearly functioning perfectly:   I’ll do some fine tuning tomorrow.     Right now I must clear some of the tools off the kitchen worktop;  you’d think I’d been building a battle cruiser by the amount of tools lying around.     The only tool required no

"Red sky in the morning" etc ....

23rd February 2018 (Friday) ....    08.00     Welllll .... it was very cold on the beach this morning at sunrise time .... there’s a raw feel to the air, and a wind from Sunrise ... and it was cold on the beach! the Southeast adding wind chill, so it feels, and is, cauld.    The bike is unlikely to be out today!   We had a ‘red sky in the morning, shepherd’s/sailor’s warning’ sky, and a bonnie sunrise (07.20).     I thought I might get the complete sun as it came ‘up’, but the top of it began to disappear behind low clouds before the bottom came over the horizon;     it was bonnie nevertheless.     20.00     With the wind being from the Easterly direction it has been cold all day .... especially when exposed to the wind.      Not that I was out in the wind much .... I didn’t go biking.     I did go up to the Harbour House for morning coffee with Jim, Myra and 10 minutes after sunrise. Geoff;    Harbour House was busy.   After the morning coffee, I decided to go to Lev

Hard frost ...

22nd February 2018 (Thursday) .... 08.30      We have another lovely morning, but there is a hard frost, so it is cold;     it might be too cold for me going out Lovely, frosty morning. on the bike..... I’ll see how the temperature is in an hour.      There is only a smirr o’ wind, but it’s from the easterly direction, so that isn’t going to boost the temperature.     In other words .... apart from the temperature being on the low side, it’s gorgeous morning!     I’ll have a cuppa then get the bike out. 20.00     Jenny phoned this morning to say that she was going back to Sussex tomorrow, did I fancy going up to the ‘Fudge Doughnut’ factory in Cupar?     ‘JB’ is suffering from a serious lack of Fudge Doughnuts (hereafter FD’s).... and Jenny was in a position to remedy this.       Jenny was within range of the FD factory.     It took less than a nano second for me to say “yes” .... I did fancy a trip to the FD factory.     It was a Ivy Crocuses bonnie morning for a run t

Spring like morning .....

Image
21st February 2018 (Wednesday) .... 08.30     It looks like being another spring like day, after another beautiful sunrise.     After all the sun rise photographs Elie Bay this morning. that I’ve taken, I came across   something ‘new’ this morning;   something that I shall be prepared for in future..... which could of course could be anytime.     It might happen tomorrow, but it might not happen for months/years.        There’s hardly any wind again, but there was a touch of frost at sunrise time;      the rising sun will soon shift the frost.     After another cuppa I’m going to get the bike out;   in fact I’ll get the bike out before I have another cuppa. 20.30      We’ve had another beautiful, Spring-like day, though it has been a bit colder;  the wind, luckily it’s light, is from the Easterly direction.    I went out on the bike, and I the new eye protection does keep the wind out of my eyes .... and any other stuff as Elie harbour - this afternoon. well.    I went to t

Leslie Bike Shop .....

20th February 2018 (Tuesday) .... 08.30     Apart from a bank of cloud on the southern horizon (that obscured the sunrise), we have ‘a wall to wall’ blue sky; Dysart harbour.   though I’ve no doubt that might change as the day progresses.     It is a bonnie morning, bright and sunny with hardly any wind. As per ‘plan’ I am going to The Leslie Bike Shop (Glenrothes) to buy eye protection, after which I’ll go to Dysart Harbour for a cuppa.     On the way home I might as well drop into Sainsbury’s (Leven) and get any ‘shopping’ that I can think of.      ‘Puku’ is rumbling away so I’d best go and have some breakfast. 21.30     This has been a bonnie Spring like day;  and it had me in working mode after I got back from this morning’s mission.    That means the felt on the wee shed has been properly nailed down. The Leslie Bike shop is the perfect place to go for all things ‘bike’;     it has everything you’d expect in a proper ‘bike shop’.      I had a look at the battery assi

Gloomy weather ....

Image
19th February 2018 (Monday) .... 09.00     Oh dear ..... I’m glad we have the Olympics to watch on the tele:    it’s gloomy and damp outside .... not a morning for Earlsferry from Elie harbour. the beach.      Although dreich, it is warm, and,   the rain, which   we had earlier, has moved away;     hopefully the sky will clear later.      There’s a lack of inspiration on a morning like this..... I’ll have one of my manky coffee’s;    everything looks brighter after a Hutte coffee.      Funnily enough I'm feeling frisky.... in spite of the gloomy weather.   20.00     You’d hardly believe it:  it has been overcast all day, but the sun managed to break the clouds through at 17.15, about 10 minutes before sunset.....  it’s going to be a ‘bright and sunny’ day tomorrow. I’ve had an enjoyable day;   I even went out twice .... in the car.    In the morning I went down to Elie harbour;   in the afternoon I went to St Monans harbour..... I like harbours, even though they are cau

Exquisite sunrise time .....

Image
18th February 2018 (Sunday) ....     08.30    We had an exquisite (‘exquisite’ is a bonnie word -   must remember to use it more often), and peaceful, Sunrise. sunrise this morning;    the tide was half way out, there was hardly any wind, so there were reflections on both sand and sea.... I’m a happy boy.     There was a touch of frost in the air, but that is beginning to lift.     It looks like the early morning dog walkers (and me) had the best of the day .... the sky is beginning to cloud over:   might get rain later in the afternoon. I’m going to Kirkcaldy to have a look at battery assisted bikes;    I need   battery   assistance to get me up to Kilbrackmont.     This could be an age thing!     I’ll browse Halfords choice of bikes, pick up some ‘blurb’ leaflets, then buy a bike when Spring arrives.      Must ‘go’, ever so slight ‘flap on’. "It didn't look that deep?" 19.30       The roads were quiet on my trip to Kirkcaldy;   then again I left early t
