Light rain, but warmer ...

Image
31st October 2018 (Wednesday) .... 07.30     Hmmmm... it’s overcast with Kinneuchar kirk (This afternoon). light rain .... not a particularly bonnie start to the ‘day’;    I’m not going to the beach.     The rain is forecast to peter out by mid morning then start again in the afternoon.... I’ll be in Leven most of the morning, sitting in Sainsbury’s reading a paper and having breakfast/lunch. 08.00    Did I say that it was warmer?      Well.... having been for the papers I can tell you it isn’t warmer;   it’s damp and cold..... not a pleasant morning,   and yet, bonnie in a different sort of way.    I can have my Weetabix now.... I got milk at the ‘Paper Shop’, milk was my main reason for going to Elie. 14.30      I’m back in Ivy.... and the car has been fixed, (I can hardly believe the state of the brake bits they had to replace), but Jim and I had to miss the Colinsburgh Lite Lunch because didn’t get back home in time.     I phoned Jim from the garage to let him know th

30th October 2018 (Tuesday) ....06.30     there’s a blustery shower Blustery showers all over the place this morning. passing over us just now, so I’m confined to Ivy ... with a cuppa:   the beach will still be there after the rain/sleet.     The ‘plan’ was to   wash the Aran jersey first thing, but I’m ‘all of a dither’ now;   I didn’t expect showers this early in the day. 08.00      There’s a brisk south-easterly breeze this morning, so it is cool on the beach .... but enjoyable.     There are showers all around us:   and, would you believe it, I stopped dithering and my Aran jersey is going though the washing machine!     It looks like it'll have to hang over a ‘horse’ in the Hutte to dry.    Balcarres Estate - just as it began to spit rain. 13.30     I’ve been for the papers.... and really relaxing morning coffee.      We’ve had a morning of heavy showers, and, for those worried about the Aran jersey.... it is now on a ‘horse in the Hutte.    I am now going to

Light frost ....

29th October 2018 (Monday) ....   07.30    We have a lovely, crisp morning Elie Bay. with a light frost;   as was forecast.     The air should quickly warm up once the sun climbs above the clouds.    The beach was busy, with dog walkers this morning .....no  joggers!       Sunrise was obscured by low cloud:   I knew this was going to be the case, having browsed the Fife Weather cams.    The Aberdour camera shows what’s happening along the East horizon.    I don’t need to go to Leven for a wee while yet .... yes .... I’ll have another cuppa. 19.30     It has been a beautiful, and busy day .     The car has been serviced;   it has to go in   on Wednesday to get two tyres replaced, and something else done.     I’ll take it in first thing on Wednesday and hope to have it back before the ‘Lite Bite Lunch’ at Colinsburgh.    Unfortunately Wednesday was the only day they could fit it .... the car ...in. Busy sky over Elie and Earlsferry. I went round to Janet’s after leavi

28th October 2018 (Sunday) .... 06.00     It is a bonnie, if cauld, Nice morning. morning... and looks like we have the beginnings of a nice day.      I see on the computer clock that it is only 05.45;    I‘d better change the clocks, or the world will be out of kilter with Ivy Cottage!     Nothing new there!     Oh welll ... I’m ‘up’;    I’ll have a cuppa then go down to the beach.      14.00     My word.... the Outreach Committee  Harvest Lunch was excellent:  then, everything they do, the Outreach Committee, is excellent.    I can’t understand how they are managing so well without me!    My contribution was, as ever, scoff the food.... and leave a contribution in the plate.    The ‘collection’ was going to a well deserving cause;  the Food Bank in Ainster.   The fact that Food Banks exist doesn’t say much for the politicians of this country.     Oh the Service bit of the morning was interesting too, though the hymns were a bit dull .... only one was of the laldie kind;  and

Nice airy morning ....

27th October 2018 (Saturday) .... 09.00     It is cold this morning, but, Visitors from Sussex on the Ferry beach. because the wind has moderated, there’s less wind chill so it doesn’t feel as cold as it was yesterday:   a nice morning for walking.    It’s also a good morning for driving to Hayward’s Heath in Sussex, which is where the two people (father and son), and the dog, in the photograph , are doing today.      The gentleman’s wife is a relation of Mrs Lilburn so has ‘Royal’ blood coursing through her veins.... she had left the beach before I got round as far as the Cockstail rocks, so, unluckily, I didn’t meet her.    The family come up to ‘The Royal Burgh’ most years.     I had an interesting morning on the beach;   even with ‘sunrise’ being obscured by low cloud. Elie Bay after the heavy shower of rain . 19.30     This has been a perfect drying day .... well it was until later in the afternoon when a heavy shower of rain passed over us;   luckily the sheets I’d

26th October 2018 (Friday) .... 09.00     we have a nice morning, but it’s Elie Bay at sunrise time. definitely cooler, as per forecast;   in fact the clouds towards the East have a wintry look to them.      We were never going to see the sunrise this morning because of the clouds;   we need   gap between the horizon and the cloud base to let the sunshine though to give us ‘the sunrise’.    As it was the sun ‘rose’, above the clouds 12 minutes after actual sunrise time.   That   said, it was nice on the beach....but cold on the hands, .... when I had my gloves off. 20.00     It has been cold today, but it has also a good drying day:   I washed two downy covers.... and ironed them.    I’m a happy bunny.    I haven’t done very much today;   apart from the paper and morning coffee, and a couple of sorties to the beach, I have Earlsferry at sunset time. been in or around Ivy all day. I have seen the News which is headlined today by the disclosure of Philip Green being th

Bed delivery ....

25th October 2018 (Thursday) .... 09.30     we have another lovely Elie Bay this morning. morning.. ‘breezy with spells of sunshine’.... at the Centre of the Universe.       Pre- sunrise sky was bonnie, though not of the spectacular kind;    subtler colours and bonnie in a different way.    The moon was setting as the sun was rising which made life interesting;   moon- set is a much quieter event than sunset!    I enjoyed my morning stroll, and arrived back at Ivy to find a message on the answer machine to say that the bed will be delivered between 10.00 and midday.     I’ll have to make my own morning coffee, but will be free for the ‘Drop in Cafe’ in the afternoon.     13.30     The bed delivery van arrived at 10.50, having travelled all the way from the Depot at Ayr.     They men put the bed together, and were ‘on their way’ by 11.10.... having declined an offer of the Hutte Finest coffee.     They had more deliveries to make on the way back to Ayr!    Imagine having trave

24th October 2018 (Wednesday) .... 09.00     We had a spectacular pre Pre- sunrise sky over Elie Bay. sunrise sky this morning;   loads of colour ... not a good sign I know... but awfie bonnie.     We have a grand morning;   the wind has dropped to an acceptable light breeze,.... a pleasant day for being out in.    There’s an oxymoron for you!     Actually the sky is overcast just now, but I don’t think rain is forecast for our area.... though it is moving into the far Northwest.    We’re down for ‘sunny with a fresh breeze’.     I’m in   a ‘working’ kind of mood this morning:   that could rapidly change.     It doesn’t take much to divert me.    I’ve got a load of photographs to ‘play’ with. 2 Sunset sky over Kincraig. 1.00     Welllll .... I’ve got a load more photographs to ‘play’ with after tonight’s sunset:   it was a cracker.     So much for “red sky in the morning etc”;   twelve hours later we have “red sky at night etc”.    I suppose that’s Scottish weather at i

Windy ....

23rd October 2018 (Tuesday) ....    07.30      It has been wild overnight ... the wind was at 49 mph (F9) for a while;   however, it is forecast to moderate by Bright and breezy.  (So is the weather) midday.      It will be ‘blawin’ a hoolie’ on the beach;   I might stay on the edge of the beach, in the lea of the dunes!     I’ve just had a thought .... it will be breezy roond the lugs if I get my hair cut today!                08.30      Although it’s windy on the beach, .... it’ isn’t a cold wind;   my hands didn’t feel cold.     Mind you I wouldn’t try to build a sand castle.     It looks like we could be in for a bright and breezy day;    a brilliant drying day.     That reminds me;   I need to buy washing powder. 20.00     Jings ... washing powder isn’t cheap,;   that said,   the box I bought should last me for at least a year.    It cost £10 because there was some kind of deal on:     I don’t know what the original price was.     When I think of it £10 for a whole

Cool wind... but a nice morning

22nd October 2018 (Monday) .... 09.00     There’s a brisk north westerly Lovely morning .... but cool when exposed to the wind. breeze this morning, and it is taking a few degrees off the temperature   ....so it’s cool on the beach .... but there is a great quantity of fresh air to share around.     It’s a nice morning, albeit cool in the frisky wind.... and it looks like we could have a good drying day.     I’ll add washing to the ‘plan’ for today.    Right now it’s breakfast time;   I had to go up to the paper shop for milk so that I could have my ‘Weetabix’.    Must go ... slight “flap on”.... I’m hungry. 20.00    We have a windy evening at the Centre of the Universe, so the Ivy Cottage hatches were battened down at 18.30, the heating turned up.... and the kettle ‘on’:    actually... I’ll stop here and make myself a cuppa. I Crail harbour. feel sorry for Theresa May, our Prime Minister (I’ve been watching the tele while having a cuppa .... and a scone).     She, T

Lovely morning ....

21st October 2018 (Sunday) .... 09.30    I’ve had another braw morning 20 minutes before sunrise. on the beach;   there was a lovely pre-sunrise sky, with loads of peace and happiness:   the complete opposite of the political world.     Sunrise itself was an anti-climax.... though bonnie nonetheless, and I came off the beach feeling contented.      I’m off to have breakfast before I start shredding paper etc.      11.30    I’m back in action again after watching the ‘Andrew Marr Show’... one of the few programmes I regularly watch.   The border between North and South Ireland seems to be insurmountable regarding Brexit.   What I can’t understand is why the Northern Ireland ‘Unionist’ party is not in favour of union with the south part of Ireland.   Brexit rumbles on.   Oh ... we have light rain just now;  nor such a bonnie dy now.... though it shoul dbrighten up again in the afternoon.
