Stunning pre -sunrise sky ....

Image
19th October 2018 (Friday) .... 09.30The pre- sunrise sky was absolutely stunning this morning.... and the beach was busy with folk enjoying the spectacle.“Red sky in the morning” is not a good omen, but right now we have a bonnie morning.... and rain is not mentioned in the weather forecast.... so we should have a nice day.It is a bit breezier though. I’m going to add this morning’s sunrise to the presentationI’m showing the WRI girls tonight;a late change but it shouldn’t take long.Need to have a cuppa first.

Crackin' morning' .....

Image
18th October 2018 (Thursday) .... 07.00It is cold but not frosty.... with a lovely clear sky breaking in the East.    I’m off to the beach with the camera;  we could have a bonnie sunrise.     Sunrise doesn’t happen for another 40 minutes, but it’s the kind of morning when I want to be out.

08.30I wasn’t the only one ‘out’ this morning;we had joggers, and dog walkers on the beach on what is a perfect morning for bumbling about on a beach. The sunrise was bonnie but not spectacular... but the mood was incredible;a great start to the ‘day’.I suppose I’d better have breakfast now!

20.00I’ve had a busy day.... most of the time has been spent ‘playing’ though I have also sorted through another heap of paper.I didn’t realise just how much paper work Maggie did.Anyway the seven years are up so I can gradually get rid of a lot of it.Of course I have taken time out to play a few games of golf. ‘Harbour House’ was busy this morning;the girls were in for their morning coffee, but only Geoff and I we…

Quiet morning ....

Image
17th October 2018 (Wednesday) .... 08.30I’m feeling peckish after my daunder to the beach:oh ... it’s a nice quiet morning, and has the look, and feel, of a bonnie day about it.I suppose I should have my breakfast;that will ease the hungry feeling! And I need a cuppa.I’ll potter around Ivy , sorting out the ‘Office’ until Iain arrives.

09.30Jings .... there’s a lump of low cloud come over from the Northwest, and all of a sudden it’s cold and grey.It should pass over and leave us with ‘bright and sunny’....I’ve got a washing going through, and do not want ‘overcast and grey’.Orf to have another cuppa!

20.00Iain arrived about 10.00;earlier than I expected;so we were also able to do more than I had planned. We started with a cuppa, then had a game of bowls, before going to the harbour then out to Shell Bay to have a wander out to Jimmy’s ‘Ponderosa’ site, then on to the Southern end of the new golf course at Dumbarnie links.
By the time we got back to Ivy we were starving;and promptly had a …

Moody, grey sky ....

Image
16th October 2018 (Tuesday)08.30 .... there’s a lot of cloud about .... in fact it’s overcast,.... but also a wee bit warmer.I took a change of direction for my walk and went up to the ‘Pony Field’ and along to the third tee.The villages looked sleepy.... although there were a goodly number of early morning dog walkers. The sun should burn through the cloud eventually ....there are promising looking paler patches appearing in the general greyness.

11.30The sky has cleared, and it looks like we are going to have a nice afternoon. Both mattresses have been taken to Pittenweem Re-Cycling Depot.... and , and theback seats of the car have been returned to normal. On the way back from the second trip to Pittenweem I went to Elie Harbour, before having morning coffee with‘the troops’.I spotted a 'different' looking bird flying low across the bay near the harbour... it turns out to be one of this years Gannet chicks from the Bass.It has lost enough weight to be able to take off;now it ne…

Nippy on the lugs ....

Image
15th October 2018 (Monday) ....08.30We have a bonnie, but nippy on the lugs, morning.... 3c on the Ivy garden thermometer. There’s only a light north west breeze ;so very little chill factor;but not the best of drying winds. It’s mostly overcastjust now, but the sun should burn the cloud off by mid morning... and raise the temperature!Orf to have a cuppa, before I dismantle the bottom bunk.

20.30Eureka .... my housewifely planning works!I looked at the weather forecast on Friday, (the day I took ‘JB’ to Kirkcaldy station) to find out the best day to wash the sheets .... and decided on Monday. It has been perfect;well perhaps not quite perfect, but nearly so:a slightly friskier breeze would have been perfect.Nonetheless I am contented with my ‘ousewifely forward planning. I had better do some more forward planning before Friday;I am showing some of my photographs to the WRI girls.Slight panic on!
The bunk bed has been totally dismantled.... and one of the mattresses is folded in two, and …

Overcast but dry ....

Image
14th October 2018 (Sunday) ....08.30It was nice on the beach this morning, after yesterday’s rain, with a bonnie pre sunrise sky;sunrise happened behind the clouds. There’s cool, north westerly breeze, and the weather forecast is not bad... we should have sunny spells in the afternoon. I’m still feeling under the weather, but brighter than I was yesterday:another quiet day ahead I’m thinking.

16.30     After a day of pottering around sorting out ‘Maggie’s Office’ I was glad to see blue sky move over from the West about 14.00:  we now have a lovely late afternoon and evening.    I took a chance this morning and hung out bath towels;   they should be nearly dry when I take them in later.    In fact I might leave the towels out all night as the forecast is good for tonight and tomorrow.     The bedding is going through the machine as I type.... ready to hang out first thing tomorrow.    I’ve had a restful ‘day’, which I intend ending quietly,... by going to the beach at sunset time.... wh…

13th October 2018 (Saturday) .... 08.30We have ‘grey and wet’ this morning:however I set off to go to the beach, but, by the time I got to the High Street (about 40 metres) the rain was too heavy for this delicate ‘boy’.I took a couple of photos of the Ferry High Street... abandoned the planned walk on the beach, and headed back to Ivy; where I am now... with a cuppa. The rain is forecast to get heavier.... not a good start to the Mid Term holidays.

12.30     It’s not a day for bumbling around outside that’s for sure;  I went up for the papers (in the car), and had morning coffee with Jim and Myra.... and then had  run up to Kinneuchar to get a few wet look photos, from the car, when I left  Harbour House.   I could have gone to Geoff’s for lunch but had to cancel because I’m choked up with some kind of head cold.    I’m going to take a ‘Janice’ toddie and ‘lie low’ for the remainder of today,....  and probably tomorrow.   I think there’s rugby on the tele;  I’ll watch that .... though …

John off home ....

Image
12th October 2018 (Friday) .... 09.00Hmmmm .... it is windy, with blustery rain showers, as per forecast;so we have a busy, and interesting sky;there’s even the occasional blue patch in the clouds. It’s breezy on the beach.... and cool in the brisk Southeast wind;and, with the wind coming in off the water there’s no shelter at the edge of the dunes. The Aberdeen to London KingsX train is having to leave from Edinburgh due to the derailment at Stonehaven;this means that John will have to leave from Kirkcaldy on an earlier Fife Circle train to connect with the London train at Waverley.

17.00It has been great having John around for the past few days;in fact at times this morning I thought I might have him for another day:John is not a ‘morning boy’.We left Ivy about 10 minutes later then intended, and had a stop and start journey all the way to Kirkcaldy;temporary traffic lights and a ‘bucket cairt’ being two of the worst hold ups.Nearly every set of traffic lights (normal) went to red as …

Misty ....

Image
11th October 2018 (Thursday) ....08.30A touch of autumn mist this morning;and there’s a cool easterly breeze off the North Sea, but a nice morning. The sky was bonnie at sun rise time, though the sun was behind low cloud/mist.‘JB’ and I chose the right day to do the front of Ivy;showers are forecast for today.... and wind and intermittent rain for Friday and Saturday.

20.00John and I went to St Andrews this afternoon:being a major University town I often wonder what some of the many students that I see bumbling around the town, will go on to be in their ‘working’ life.People watching, in St Andrews is very interesting;for instance there appears to be more Oriental faces than there once was:probably because the ‘East’ is no longer as secretive as it was. We ended up going out to the West Sands for a walk on their beach. It is an excellent sandy beach;that said, as there are no rocks at all,   it is to me, slightly boring. It was quiet by West Sands standards today;a few dog walkers, and jo…

Painting morning ....

Image
10th October 2018 (Wednesday) .... 08.30It’s a beautiful morning for painting, and ... surprisingly .... I am ‘in a painting mood’.That could wear off... because it’s also a bonnie day for going out with the camera.I’ve been on the beach.... it was serene;and I’m happy with this morning’s beach photos.I had to go up for the papers early as we had run out of milk;can’t have Cornflakes without milk.

16.30    Amazing ‘news’.....  ‘JB’ and I have been busy boys today; .... we painted the front  of ‘Ivy’.    This is really only the preparatory coat, but this would see it through the winter:  unless a really nice day comes before then, and I feel ‘in the mood’ for doing it.    The next time it will be done mostly with a paint roller.   It has been the perfect day for painting:  but I missed ‘morning coffee’ in Harbour House, and the Friendship Lunch.   The weather forecast for tomorrow is ‘nae bad’ ... but showers are mentioned for our area, so no painting.     Anyway I’ll sleep well tonight…

Hmmmmm?....

Image
9th October 2018 (Tuesday) ....08.00The beach was quiet.... that said it isn’t the bonniest of mornings for going to the beach: the weather being ‘breezy with light rain blowing through now and again’.Strangely enough the air is quite warm.I’m beginning to feel confident that this could be the day that the bunks get dismantled.

21.00John and I went up to St Andrews;intending to bumble around the auld place. We got moored up at the harbour, walked out to the end of the pier, and were back at the car just as the rain started in earnest... and, bringing with it the end to any bumbling around St Andrews plan.We came home via the coast road for the run;I would say that we’ve done this route in better weather. It remained dreich for the remainder of the afternoon. My washing did not dry.
Oh .... the bunk beds have been dismantled;we thought it was going to be a long job, but it only took an hour.... which is why we were able to go to St Andrews.Actually we left the bottom bunk as a base for the …

Dull and damp ....

Image
8th October 2018 (Monday) .... 08.00It is a dull start to Monday, with
light rain on a brisk, but not cold westerly breeze.... and I was wrapped up like a polar bear. But hey ho .... even on a morning when sunrise was hidden behind clouds, there is always brightness at the Centre of the Universe;this morning’s ‘sunrise glow’ was Marcia out with the dogs. They fair cheered me up. With the sky being heavily overcast it looks like this might be the morning that ‘JB’ and I dismantle the bunk beds. We’ll need a few, decision making, cuppas before we do anything;anything that might interfere with Wii golf.

23.30The bunk beds are still stood staunin’ where they’ve been for the past 15 years:but our golf scoring is improving! We are absolutely, definitely, going to dismantle the bunks tomorrow!Today we went to ‘Rejects’ (Kirkcaldy) to browse single sheets:ended up having lunch, then came home via the coast route.I’ll browse the single sheets etc next week.
We were both tired after when we got back …

Cracking sunrise ....

Image
7th October 2018 (Sunday) .... 09.30I can tell you that it was cauld on the beach;actually it wasn’t that cold when I first went down.... there was only a light breeze... but the wind freshened and added wind chill! But hey .... it was worth it:we had a cracker of a sunrise!“Red sky in the morning .... etc. is ominous, but at least it was dry, even if it was windy and cold by the time I left the beach. It’s not that bad looking out just now.... windy but not wet.Wind and rain is forecast for us later today.Have a lovely day whatever you do;or a peaceful night’s sleep if you’re in the Southern hemisphere.I’m needing food... orf to have breakfast.

12.00We went up to Chapel Green around midday;it was cold with spits and spots o’ rain in the wind.I suppose it could be called ‘bracing’.I was ‘stood staunin’ in the lee of the Chapel when John came up from a potter around the rocks. It does not look, nor feel, like we are going to have a bonnie afternoon.

21.30We’ve been lucky with the weather;we…
