Feeling productive ....

26th April 2018 (Thursday) ....07.30It is cool this morning; ‘bright, with a brisk north westerly wind’, .... but bonnie , with loads of April shower type clouds scuttling over from the NW.I’ll make for Balcarres, later on today, and have an, ‘out of the wind’ walk in the Den.... right now I’m going down to the beach.

Bright and breezy ... most of the time

Image
25th April 2018 (Wednesday) .... 08.00We have a ‘bright and breezy’
morning, though there is a chilly feel to the air:it reminded me of a crackin’ September morning in Windischgarsten in Austria. That was 19 years ago. It is a lovely morning for a walk, and it should be warm out of the wind.I’ll go for a walk, somewhere, in the afternoon.... the diet begins today, and involves not eating between meals, drinking much water, and doing a lot of exercise.

21.00There was a good turnout for Jimmy Preston’s funeral, at Kinneuchar Cemetery, this morning. The weather was dry, though there was a cool breeze. The Minister gave an excellent, Service, and tribute, at the graveside; awakening many memories.Yes, Jimmy got a good ‘send off’. Sadly I couldn’t go to the cuppa afterwards:my computer had been ‘hacked’ and was sending out messages to all my contacts in Messenger;and I wanted to sort it out.I don’t use Messenger, but do occasionally get messages inward;which I try to answer.Anyway I have now ch…

Noticeably caulder ....

Image
24th April 2018 (Tuesday) ..... 08.30The first thing that caught my attention when I stuck “ma heid oot the door” this morning, was that it is noticeably caulder;as in back to wearing the winter togs caulder. So, it was the heavy jacket, scarf and gloves for my walk on the beach. There’s a strong wind from the WNW and that is adding a lump of wind chill, .... so wrap up if you’re going to be out in the wind. That said it ‘bright and sunny’, with dauds o’ cotton wool clouds scuttling across the sky. It’s a nice morning, but, I’m thinking the bike will stay in the shed today.I might take the car up to the Deil’s Lodge and have a walk down Balcarres Den.

21.30I’ve been reasonably busy today; mostly walking.I did go to the Deil’s Lodge (Balcarres Estate), and had a walk down to the pond.It was nice out of the wind;in fact it was hot when I was pottering about at the pond, because that area is a suntrap. The pond is full just now;full of muddy water after the recent weather.Actually I think …

Happy dog walker ....

Image
23rd April 2018 (Monday) .... 08.30“Happy St George’s Day” to all my English friends:today is the day when you collect dandelion flowers to make wine.Maggie and I once did this, and the resulting wine was excellent ... and had a kick.It took a year to reach that stage.Of course, you don’t need to make wine to enjoy the Dandelion flowers;I always see them as happy flowers. This means that Ivy Cottage garden is a ‘happy garden’.
We have a ‘bright and breezy’ morning;might be a bit breezy for the bike actually.I have been down to the beach, which is a happy beach;we had one dog walker with dog (you couldn’t be dog walker without one.A dog i.e.),one jogger, with dog, and me.... without a dog, but I did have a camera. We were all ‘happy’.

19.30With it being too windy for me being out on the bike (I must get a battery assisted bike) I went up to Gillingshill Nature Reserve, in the car, to have a walk round. There was a gale o’ wind so I didn’t go up to the high path;it was getting the full b…

Overcast after rain ....

Image
22nd April 2018 (Sunday) ....The thunderstorms, that were forecast to occur overnight, missed us and went up the North Sea, (now off Aberdeenshire), so we were lucky in that respect;however, we did have rain, I know this because everything is wet, but I never heard thunder. It’s mostly overcast, and damp, this morning, but the sun should breakthrough later.... it was trying hard when I was out on the bike. It’s a nice enough morning, but disappointing after the past few days of sunny weather.

21.00My legs and feet are tired tonight:it’s watching the London Marathon .... it fair tires me oot.I have done a lot of running in my young day, so I know the feeling, and come out in sympathy. The sun did ‘break through’ but only infrequently, and then for only short blinks:that said, my day has been bright in other ways.In the afternoon I decided to take a run up to Balcarres to see is ‘Susanna Van Veen’ was blooming;and she was.‘Susanna’ is a Magnolia tree, and the flowers are usually out in mid…

Cracker of a morning ....

Image
21st April 2018 (Saturday) .... 10.30We have an absolute cracker of a morning at the Centre of the Universe;bright, sunny, and warm, with only a smirr of a westerly breeze.I went out early, and photographed my way fromWest Bay, round to the harbour;starting an hour before high tide, and finishing an hour after high tide.I met a couple down at the harbour looking for a Black Necked Grebe (hereafter BNG) which has been seen out on the bay.Apparently somebody ‘scoped’ it (the BNG) a couple of days ago. That will be twitcher lingo for a sighting by telescope. This ‘happy bunny’ is now going to have a look at the photographs I 'took';being a ‘reflections’ morning, I have a lot of photos to look at.

17.00This has been an excellent day, probably the best so far this year;warm (19c in Ivy garden), bright and sunny for the whole day:even I have a touch of the sun.I got that working in the garden!I decided to clean out the half barrel water feature... and that took me a bit of time:most o…

Early bird ....

Image
20th April 2018 (Friday) ... 07.00I went out on the bike early this morning .... 05.40:I wanted to be at the harbour for sunrise time ... 05.54. It was chilly at that time, it always is just before sunrise.Anyway I was down there on time, and snapped my first photograph at 05.53.The sun didn’t rise over the East Links until 06.00. Unfortunately it was breezier than I’d hoped, so the sea wasn’t mirror like, but I am happy enough with the photographs I got. This is the best time of the day;apart from 'Blob' and friends giving the dawn chorus laldie, a couple of delivery vans and Ian at the ‘Paper Shop’, I, near enough, had the villages to myself. After that early morning fresh air I am now ready for breakfast!

18.00I’ve been sitting in the Hutte watching a Peacock butterfly sunning itself on a warm rock;I didn’t have a camera at the time, so couldn’t get a photo.Obviously this spell of warm, sunny weather has woken up the overwintering butterflies... Spring is in the air. Will it l…

Beautiful Spring morning ....

Image
19th April 2018 (Thursday) .... 09.30We have a cracker of a Spring morning.... sunny, and warm, with only a smirr of a breeze from the SW;perfect morning for ‘doing’ stuff.I’ve been out on the bike, and spent an hour wandering around the harbourarea.I’ll go up to the Estate after this update, drop into Harbour House on the way home, then do some work around the garden. It’s a “ want to do things” kind of morning.

20.30Now this kind of weather I could get to like;19c in Ivy garden this afternoon:maybe not quite as warm as it was down in ‘Sunny Sussex’, .... but warm enough for me to enjoy.I went out three times on the bike, and I do believe that I might have a touch of the sun.Mind you that’s hardly surprising;sunshine is an unfamiliar phenomenon to my delicate skin. Most times it suffers from wind burn.It has been a lovely day:now we need a series of ‘lovely days’, .... in fact a whole ‘season’ of sunny days:we could call it - Spring.Yes I have, and I’m sure we all have, enjoyed this lo…

Warm ... but dull

Image
18th April 2018 (Wednesday) .... 08.30Although the sky is overcast, and we have light rain now and again, it is definitely warmer; a disappointing morning;because .... I was looking forward to warm sunshine. That will come later in the afternoon. Don’t get me wrong;the villages look good, even on grey days.... they are like old citizens of the world, wearing their age with grit and determination: ignoring the ‘magma flow’ of new houses that have encircled, and in some cases buried, old villages, over the past 150 years or so.Having said that, the bike will stay in the shed until after the rain!
20.30This has been one exciting day for this ‘boy’.The morning remained overcast, so I took the car up for the paper, then joined Jim and Geoff for coffee in the harbour House.Myra joined us a little later.Harbour House was busy.... with visitors. When we left Harbour House, I realised that the Health Shop in Anstruther would be open , so went along there. It was open.Unfortunately the stuff I wante…

Anstruther ...

Image
17th April 2018 (Tuesday) .... 08.00Welllll .... it’s overcast, and, although not raining, at the moment, it has been overnight .... and looks like it could again soon. However, our weather is not going to be gloomy all day, ....we should get sunny spells in the afternoon. My ‘plan’ is to go to Anstruther in the morning, then out for walk/bike in the afternoon. The ground is too wet to do anything in the garden.

11.00I’ve been to Anstruther but the shop I wanted to go to was ‘closed’:they have funny, and not many of them, opening hours. At least I now know when the shop isn't open.    And when it is!   The journey wasn’t wasted, as I met John (Clark) outside the Harbour office;haven’t seen John for a while so we caught up with each others ‘news’, while I photographed a 50 year, wooden hulled, fishing boat that’s in the process of refurbishment. On the way out of Anstruther, I stopped at Barnett’s Cellardyke shop, and bought some goodies, including twa ‘Sair Heids’.A migraine had kick…

Feeling good ....

16th April 2018 (Monday)08.00..... Mmmmm ..... we have an overcast sky, and there has been light rain overnight;but the grey sky looks like it could break up, and give us a few bright spells later. That’s when I’ll go out on the bike;later.Bumbling into Leven first thing after breakfast seems a good ‘plan’, in the hope that the weather brightens up by lunch time.I am feeling good, .... certainly not as stiff as I expected to be, after yesterday’s gardening.Orf to have breakfast, then I’ll probably go to Leven.

12.00Oh my word .... I’m in a state of excitement.I went to Leven .... and fell ‘in love’.I met this lady on the High Street, she is lovely, and chatty .... and has stolen my heart;a ‘ship that passed in the night’.I had to go to Stuart’s to have a cuppa.A pot of tea, and a scone, after indulging myself, I went to Sainsbury’s, where .... you won’t believe it .... I fell in love again;this time with a 1959 Cadillac de Ville moored up in the car park. I’ll need to go out on the bik…

Bright and breezy ....

15th April 2018 (Sunday) .... 09.30.The harbour (Elie)is looking bonnier, and busier, now that the  the boats are back in the water;though there wasn’t much happening when I was down there. Not with the boats anyway....the tide was out.A fair number of people walking the beach, and one person actually went for a swim; the air temperature around me dropped by about 10c just watching her.... and I was up on The Terrace! Oh .... we have a bonnie ‘bright and sunny’, morning, but there is an Easterly wind, and it is hazy:a nice morning, but cool. The garden is sheltered from this East wind, I might just spend a bit of time working.I’m feeling energetic.

19.30.All the energy I had in the morning has been burned off;working.... in the garden.I lopped a tree thing, and that job involved ladder work, so my knees and hips have had some exercise this afternoon..... and not the kind of exercise that they are accustomed to.I suspect that they will be stiff tomorrow morning.I wonder .... should I ha…

'Crane in'.....

Image
14th April 2018 (Saturday) .... 08.00Yessss ....we have a nice morning. It is overcast, but not as heavy as it has been, there’s a light breeze, from the SW, but it is not cold. This is the perfect kind of day for ‘Crane In’.... which set to start at 10.00;and, we could have some sunny spells later;the sky has that kind of ‘look’ to it.When I think about it, I’m feeling friskier this morning, and happier;I’ll get out on the bike today.

21.00It has been a bonnie day.... 15c in Ivy garden in the afternoon.I spent the morning at the harbour. There’s always a lot of activity at ‘crane in’, and, with the weather being ... welllll ... perfect, people were doing stuff all over the place.Boats were being ‘craned in’, the beach was busy, and the new skiff was on the water ....yes there was much going on.John came down from Shell Bay.John treated me to coffee in the Club House, where we browsed some of the photos in John’s tablet, including one of my brother Harry’s memorial plaque, on top of Ben …
