Mary and Davie ....

Image
28th February 2021 (Sunday)     09.00 .... Well that was a quick change of Mary and Davie (Budd) plan.   The sky was overcast at sunrise time so I decided to take the car to Elie for the paper.    When I went to start it (the car) I realised that the battery was low and needing a ‘run’, so I had an immediate ‘plan change’;  I’d take the car to The Store in Anstruther, and come home by way of Colinsburgh Garage to fuel her up.    That way the battery would get some kind of charge.   I’ll go to Crail sometime this week to give the car a decent run. The sky is beginning to break up, with lots of blue bit starting to appear;    I should get out on the bike after lunch. 19.00     I’ve finally sussed out going to the kirk on ‘Zoom’;    well .... not ‘going to’... coming ‘out of the kirk’ actually.     There’s a Leave Meeting button that you can use to exit at any time.    I’ll exit at the end of the service, before the ‘rooms’ open up in future, ‘cos I’m not very good in the ‘room’.

27th February 2021 (Saturday)   11.00 .... I was in a state of excitement on The setting moon. the beach this morning;  the sun was rising in the Southeast.... and the moon setting in the Northwest:  I had a great time.   It has taken me until now to sort out the photographs;  though I did take time out to go to the paper shop and the bakers.   Anyway we had a gorgeous sunrise (‘red sky in the morning’ etc;  probably warning us to use sun cream) .... and the even after the sun was up the light was awesome.   I enjoyed myself.  What’s the ‘plan’ for today?.... I will do a wee bit of work in the garden so that I won’t feel guilty if when I go out on the bike after lunch.     I mean; It would be naughty to not to go out in the sun and absorb some Vitamin D!     Must ‘go’... ‘flap on’ ....it’s morning coffee time. 18.30      I never did go out on the bike;   I did the wee bit of gardening to salve my conscience and that must have tired me out, ‘cos I sat down in the Hutte to do a Soduk

Spring! ....

26th February 2021 (Friday)      10.30 .... What a cracker o’ a mornin’!   I have been to the beach;  the next move is to have ‘morning coffee’ the go out on the bike.... wherever I go will be via Elie to pay the papers etc.   The forecast is good for the next week more or less, so we have to take advantage of it.... sunshine will help us shake off the Coronavirus blues.     And, in my case, some of the extra, non muscle, ‘stuff’ that I has appeared around the ‘royal’ body over the winter.   Enjoy the sun. 21.30    I may not have done much physical work today but I have enjoyed being out on the bike.... and down to the beach.   This is the kind of weather to get us over the trials and tribulations of the past year;  and to build us up for whatever comes our way over the summer. My busy day began and ended with the beach:   at sunrise time and just before sunset time.    In the middle of the day I went for the paper, then to Kinneuchar via the Balbuthie road.    I had a wee bumble t

Colder air ....

25th February 2021 (Thursday)    11.00 .... We have a fresh wind from the WNW this morning, so, with the combined effects of a cooler wind direction and the wind chill factor, it’s cold today.   It was very cold on the beach at sunrise time.... definitely not the warmest time of day, but always interesting.   I was glad to get home and have a hot shower.     It’s a bonnie day, but a bit windy;    however I might go out on the bike, in the afternoon.    I put the kettle ‘on’ 20 minutes ago;   it would be a pity to waste the hot water.    Cuppa time. 21.00    I am tired.... after a reasonably active day.   It has been a bonnie day here;  a bit breezy perhaps but really warm (for the time of year) sheltered from said wind.    I went out on the bike at around midday (when the wind was at its friskiest).... only going as far as Elie and remembering to stop at the ‘paper shop’ on the way to the harbour.   In actual fact I never reached the harbour because I stopped at the Ship in beer gar

JB's Birthday .....

Image
24th February 2021 (Wednesday)    “Happy Birthday” ‘JB’;   I shall celebrate with a small large Tamnavulin this evening. 08.00 .... the wind has moderated but, before it did so it lifted yesterdays rain;   the road is dry so I’ll bike up for the paper later in the morning.     The sky is mostly overcast just now but the forecast is good.... ‘sunny spells with a fresh breeze’. 22.30     We’ve enjoyed a Spring like day... so I did a washing, which I hung out before going for the paper.     At that time the sky was a bit iffy, but all was well and the washing dried;     it has even been ironed.    I did the paper run on the bike;   the wind was a bit bothersome but I enjoyed being out on the quiet streets.    I must admit I am enjoying the ‘lack of restrictions’ on the roads, especially doing ‘The Toft’ to the harbour:   Somehow I think it will be different come July and August, but;     on the other hand it will be good seeing the Ship Inn and all the other shops functioning again.

Overcast ....

23rd February 2021 (Tuesday)      08.30 ....  I’ve been for the paper and checked out the harbour on what is, an overcast, with occasional spits and spots o’ rain morning.   The wind wasn’t that bad, but is forecast to freshen (up to F6-7) by mid afternoon... but... and this is the good news;  it should being a few sunny spells with it.   I think this could be mostly a ‘computer day’ for me.... with a wander to the beach once the sunny spells arrive. 21.00    We had one reasonable length sunny spell early in the afternoon and I got the bike out, with the intention of doing a ‘roond the villages tour’; starting with Chapel Green.   It was breezy at Ivy Cottage.... but my word it was blowin’ a gale up there (Chapel Green), so the ‘tour’ started and finished at Chapel Green.   Anyway, I could see the sky beginning to cloud over again, so it didn’t take long to convince myself that, with the wind forecast to moderate overnight I could do the villages in comfort on Thursday (tomorrow’s for

Clearing sky ....

Image
22nd February 2021 (Monday)    09.00 .... the sky is clearing after some overnight rain:  with the roads being wet and there isn’t a drying breeze, so the biking ‘plan’ is hanging in the balance.      The sky is slowly clearing from the West ... and sunny spells are forecast to make an appearance around midday, so I may get out in the afternoon.   I’m a frustrated boy just now; thankfully,  it’s coming up to 'morning coffee' time. I 've been for the paper and down to the harbour;  it's a peaceful morning and everything is where it should be.... apart from the clouds. 21.00    The sun broke through about 09.30 so I decided to go to Balcarres Estate  after morning coffee:  it was a perfect day for biking..... sunny with only a light breeze.   The road I chose to enter the estate was the muddiest part of the chosen route, but I wanted to go into the Den and the Balmakin entrance is perfect for that.    The countryside doesn’t look its best at this time of year, especially

My word .... we have a beautiful day ....

21st February 2021 (Sunday)     10.00 ....I’ve been for a braw walk this morning;   along the beach to Telfer Wynd, then up to and home by way of the golf course.    It’s a bonnie Spring day so I should get some work done in the garden;  then again I may go out on the bike.   Right now I’m going to try and get into the kirk service on ‘Zoom’  ....failing that I can get it on YouTube, either now or later in the day:  Got to make a cuppa first. 15.00    ‘Going to the kirk’ on ‘Zoom’  works perfectly;  well it did once I knew what to do in ‘the room’.   The ‘room’ is where you go for five minutes, at the end of the service, and meet with a few others, from the ‘congregation’, for a ‘blether’.   Up till now I have been ‘going to kirk’ on YouTube,  but without doubt ‘Zoom’ is better. I have just ‘surfaced’, having fallen asleep in front of the tele after lunch;  watching a Midsomer Murders' and missing the last half hour for the second time.      After a reviving cuppa, I’ll do a wee

Peaceful morning ....

20th February 2021 (Saturday)     10.00 .... the beach was quiet this morning;    Peter caught me up on his way to the ‘paper shop’ but we were the only ones on the beach at sunrise time (sunrise happened behind low cloud).   The sky is overcast and ‘light rain showers’ are mentioned in the forecast for KY9.... the 'light rain' mostly  after midday.    Tomorrow is a better forecast for biking so the bike stays in ‘The Hutte’ today:  I might actually do some tidying up in the front garden.    Right now it’s ‘morrrrrrrrrrrning coffee’ time. 17.00    We have a weak boy tonight:  not only did I think of doing something in the garden.... I actually went ahead and ‘did’ something.   Now I am shattered and well ready for a hot shower.    Not that I did that much, but thinking about what I wanted to do had me in a state of weakness, before I began the ‘work’ bit.    The ‘broon’ bucket (garden & food waste) is almost at its limit;  it doesn’t get emptied until 12th March so I have

Not a good hair day ....

Image
19th February 2021 (Friday)     09.30 .... I see that the weather forecast has us down for ‘heavy rain and a fresh breeze’ for near enough the whole day.     I went to the beach at sunrise time and the rain began just as I left the beach.... and as the ‘Blue Tit’ SC’ swimmers went in for their morning dip.   The rain has settled in and it’s looking like ‘ousework/computer/ tele, for this boy today;  though I will go for the paper (in the car) and take a run to the harbour.   All is good at the Centre of the Universe.... hmmmm ... it could be better if it wasn't overcast and wet! 16.00   It was raining heavily when I went to Elie;  so heavily in fact that, when I went to the harbour I circumnavigated the granary non-stop and made for the shelter of the Ship Inn awning.   (I don’t know what I’ll do when The Ship re-opens).   At that time the sky was breaking up (aye even ‘bloo’ bits) over on the ‘sooth side’.   Sure enough by the time I left the Ship Inn beer garden the rain was of

Overcast and breezy ....

Image
18th February 2021 (Thursday)       08.30 ....   I had a walk to the beach, but I forgot that the tide would be in so I didn’t go onto the actual beach.   There was activity on the beach;   ‘Blue Tits’ swimmers were going in for their morning dip.   It’s not that cold, but there is a breeze so not ‘iggzactly’ warm either.    The forecast for KY9 mentions ‘light rain’ for early morning;  at the moment it’s overcast but breezy and dry. 15.30    A change of direction was what I needed.... so I went North, on the bike, to Kinneuchar then home by way of Elie estate and Elie.    The first thing I noticed was that Ferry Road is a mess of potholes at the usual places... the bridge over the burn and at both approaches to the railway bridge.    The southern approach is a disaster;  the time has come for a proper repair to that section of the road.   In fact all three places need proper attention.   Filling in  a  few holes here and there, because they are of the requisite depth, isn’t really go

Blob .... 'in love' ....

Image
17th February 2021 (Wednesday)       07.30 .... It’s going to be a nice day ... right now it’s raining, not heavily but has been for a while by the look of it and it’s definitely wet.    There was a bit of red sky earlier but I didn’t go out with the camera;  I plan to go out on the bike later.  ‘Blob’ was singing his ‘I’m in love’ song this morning again;  he’s unquestionably thinking, ‘love nest’.   I’m orf to have an early breakfast... and mug o’ caffeine. 22.30     Joyful me .... I’ve had a great day... welll not great... enjoyable would be   a better word.       I did get to the beach... about 08.30 .... the tide was on the way out so we had a wet beach .... and a wet beach equals ... reflections.   With the wind being out of the southwest, the sea calmed down, it was much quieter.     I could hear the seabirds! To bring the photos I was taking ‘to life’,   someone had to walk on to the beach.... and lo and behold someone came down from the Breakwater and to the water’s edge fo

Spring like morning ....

Image
16th February 2021 (Tuesday)    09.00 .... There’s a fresh breeze from the WSW, the birds have been givin’ it laldie from the rooftops and the snowdrops at Ivy front door have opened;   Spring has arrived.    Of course it could all go wrong now and again, but right now, let’s enjoy this Spring spell, while we have it.    Blob is ‘in a state of being love’;  he’s singing his romantic ‘look at handsome me’ songs and has the glaikit look of young love.   Yep it’s all go at the Centre of the Universe this bonnie morning. I decided to go to ‘The Store’ for a bit of shopping.    It keeps me in touch with the ‘good old days’ of supermarket shopping.     Now I think I need a well earned mug of coffee.     I’m going to try a mug of some kind of Cappuccino that I bought .... it can’t be worse than my own brew.   17.30      The Cappuccino is good;     it’s just like the real thing... all frothy and tasty.      I also bought a jar of coffee granules so that I can keep on suffering my own concoc

Lovely morning .....

15th February 2021 (Monday)     10.00 .... The wind has veered to the southwest, the birds are singing their Spring territorial) songs (so am I, within the confines of Ivy), the snow has gone.... and ... we had a lovely sunrise.   The Centre of the Universe is looking good:  I might even get the bike out today.... probably around about midday.   I haven’t been for the paper:  I’ll do that after morrrrrrrning coffee. 16.00   Welll .... it has been a nice enough day but I didn’t get take the bike out;  the weather forecast for tomorrow is slightly brighter but also breezier so I’ll bike up for the paper tomorrow.    I was in need of milk today, so had to take the car up this morning. With the snow having thawed, I had a short walk up to the Pony Field and onto the golf course;   there’s still snow in the bunkers and other nooks and crannies, but even that should have gone by the end of   tomorrow.    I think I’ll have another cuppa then take a wander down to the beach before   sunset. 2
