Peaceful morning .....

Image
31st August 2020 (Monday)    06.30 ....The last day of August looks like being a bonnie one though not as warm as it should be.... it’s a peaceful morning with only a smirr of a breeze from the Southeast;    a good morning for getting things done.    I think a short pruning session around the garden will be my 'work' thing for today. 10.30     It took an hour and a half to get the paper this morning;   it’s a cracker of a mornin’ for being out with a camera.     I went out to the lighthouse then home via the estate.... it was fantastical.     I’ll go up to Chapel Green once the bike battery is charged up;   might make a sandwich and have a picnic lunch up there. 'The Terrace' - Elie. 15.00     It was so warm   hot having my picnic at Chapel Green that I ended up having a mild attack of ‘the mauchless’;  but I enjoyed my lunch.    Chapel Green was busy as was the beach ..... it was 20c on the garden thermometer when I got back home to Ivy, which explains why everybody

Fresh morning .....

30th August 2020 (Sunday)      07.00 .... It’s a lovely morning with a nice fresh feel to the air;   7c on the garden thermometer.    Once the sun is higher, the air warmer ... and after an early breakfast I’ll go for the paper.    I think another cuppa wouldn’t go amiss right now. 09.00     The sun is warm ... I just have to go out to play (again) later.     I’ve been for the paper now I need to wash the lobby, bathroom and kitchen floors to salve my conscience then I can .... ‘play’.   It’s such a beautiful morning that I went out to the lighthouse for a change of scenery this morning;   my word it was the effort.    Very peaceful out there..... with one or two wild campers enjoying the perfect spot to spend this holiday weekend.     I’d have mooched a cuppa but I didn’t see anyone with a kettle ‘on’ A small part of the beach this afternoon. 12.00    I watched the Church Service by Rev Douglas Creighton this morning (it’s online for the next few days) so .... on my way up to Cha

Autumn chill in the air .... ....

29th August 2020 (Saturday)      07.30 .... It’s a beautiful morning but there’s a touch of Autumn in the air.... but a lovely morning for being out.    I’ve been for the paper and down to the harbour, but will go up to Chapel Green later in the morning;    when the air is warmer.   The kettle will have boiled and I’m well ready for a hot cuppa.... and breakfast. 18.30      I am one really happy boy;    having got photographs of Barbara and Laura exercising their horses on the beach.     It was a perfect morning for taking ponies to the beach... and a perfect light for taking photographs of ponies on the beach.    It has long been my ambition to get some photos of horses exercising on the beach and at last everything came together this morning.    ‘Thank You’ Barbara and Laura... and ‘thank you Barbara for texting me to let me know you were going to be on the beach this morning. Laura and Barbara. I’ve actually been a busy boy in the kitchen;    I put together a chicken casserole

28th August 2020 (Friday)      06.30 .... Although overcast it isn’t raining, Breakfast on the beach. and  there is the chance of a few sunny spells later;    it is cool for this time of year with a brisk breeze from the North-Easterly direction;    showers aren’t mentioned but sometimes   the sky does look threatening.      I’ll get out later.   08.00      When I was up at Elie, for the paper (and milk), we had a light shower, so showers are around;    hopefully they will clear away as the day progresses.     And it’s cold for the time of year;    biking could be ‘cauld on the lugs’. 12.30    I’ve had a reasonably busy day pottering around Ivy;  the weather has been too unsettled, with occasional spells of Scotch Mist being blown in from the North Sea, so I haven’t been out ‘to play’ yet.   I have done some work in the greenhouse (cactus's) and on the computer.     Unlike yesterday morning, (when I found ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ to watch,  the tele today has been abs

27th August 2020 (Thursday)      07.00 .... It’s mostly overcast but at least it’s dry, just now, and the forecast is for sunny spells by mid morning, so it looks like being a brighter day than yesterday.     I am feeling brighter after a good night’s rest, and look forward to getting out on the bike at some point later today.     I’m going to send in a Tesco order this morning.... not that I need much but it keeps the cupboards ‘topped up’.      09.00     I’m well ready for ‘morning coffee’ now, having done the Tesco order (delivery Sunday afternoon) and been at The Store or a quick top up of vital things.   This leaves the next few days free for ‘play’ and working around Ivy, (not in the attic).    I ran through a light shower off rain on the way to Anstruther so showers are around....in fact it looks fairly threatening just now.  I may get out after lunch time. 15.00     Of all the books written about life and death in the trenches in WW1, “All Quiet on the Western Front” by Erich

26th August 2020 (Wednesday)      07.30 ....thankfully   the wind moderated overnight and we have a quieter morning, but the sky is still heavily overcast, with the threat of showers.    I’ll go for the paper about lunch time;   by that time the sky might have started to brighten up, though it doesn’t look promising just now.     09.30      Since my first update I have had a migraine (weather) and this will cramp my activities for today (I’ve taken a couple of pills).     I’ll most likely fall asleep in fro not the tele.   We had a glimpse of the sun trying to break through the clouds so there is a chance of brighter spells in the afternoon;   by that time I should be feeling mair active. 15.00    I did fall asleep watching the tele and woke up (after half an hour) feeling brighter, which is more than can be said of the weather.    Although the sky has lightened there are spits and spots of rain falling just now ,so the planned circumnavigate of the villages has been postponed;  I mi

Storm Francis ....

25th August 2020 (Tuesday)      06.30 ....   we had an angry looking sky this morning as Storm Francis Stormy looking sunrise sky. begins to make its presence felt;    already there’s a brisk wind with a lot of interesting clouds.... but no rain just yet.    I’m having a quick cuppa before taking the car along to Elie.... rain doesn’t look to be very far away.     I got photos of the sky;   now I am looking forward to the ‘postie’.     The card reader reached Edinburgh MC (Mail Centre) at 02.56. so I might get it today. 08.00      I’ve been for the paper and down to the harbour;   lots of interesting photographs taken.     I went to the beach after parking the car:   It’s actually a braw   morning, with loads of fresh air.     Two blokes went in for a swim;   I didn’t think it was that bonnie a morning .... but they seemed to enjoy it. I’m orf to have breakfast... then I’ll browse the television channels to see if there’s anything worth watching.    I’ll end up working on the com

24th August 2020 (Monday)       06.30 .... Hmmmm ..... the sky is overcast, with Kinneuchar Station.   a ‘low chance of precipitation’ in the earlier part of the morning (now).... however, there are some small ‘bloo’ holes appearing from the Northwest.     The sun cream is on ‘standby’;  however, I’ll go for the paper later.... just in case there is an early morning spell of damp stuff.   16.00     I enjoyed a latish morning ‘paper run’.... (forgot to go for the paper) .... up Ferry Road, through Elie Estate, down to Elie Harbour, then along to Chapel Green via The Toft, The Terrace , South Street and the Breakwater, taking a lot of photos ‘cos there was a lot going on,   and a bonnie ‘light’ with an interesting sky.     I met (and talked to  a lot of people, including Lindsay who was on his ‘morning run’ round the villages.    All is well at the Centre of the Universe. Since then I have;   what have I done?      Well I ate food, had a couple of cuppas, fell asleep while solving an

Beautiful morning ....

23rd August 2020 (Sunday)      09.00 .... I’ve had a really enjoyable Earlsferry. morrrrrrning and all I’ve done is go round the villages picking up my paper from Cath in the ‘paper shop’ in the passing.     It is a good morning for photographs, and I was lucky, apart from the usual scenic photos... there was a dingy being launched at the harbour, and ..... I managed to be at the beach in time to catch   the ‘Blue Tits Swimming Club’ going into the water.       Yes   .... this morning has been a successful ‘paper run’.        Alas, I can’t   do anything with the photos until my new card reader arrives;    hopefully tomorrow. Having just had breakfast I now   have a washing ready to hang on the line:   I’ll do that, make a cuppa, then browse the photos on the camera. 17.00       The afternoon had been a bit of a let down .... especially after an enjoyable morning:   It has been overcast with light rain.... that said, the sun is beginning to break through just now so we might have a

Bright and breezy ....

22nd August 2020 (Saturday)        09.30 .... It’s a beautiful, bright and breezy The 'Ferry corner'. morning and everything is where it should be all around the villages.... the paper has been picked up from the ‘paper shop, along with two rolls,   so I am ready for the weekend.     The wind is a bit too strong for my biking to Balcarres and, would you believe it, the card reader I ordered yesterday at 15.30 could be delivered today;   that would be amazing.    I really think it will be Monday though;   I’m not sure if it will come by Parcel Force or the ‘postie’.      I’ve taken a ‘wheen’ o’ photographs this morning and might even get out again in the afternoon ....  I’ll have a lot to ‘play’ with when the reader does arrive. 18.30     Ferry Road seemed busy today, presumably with some holiday makers leaving and new ones coming in.     I’ve had a great day:   Myra phoned inviting me up to ‘No 3’ for morning coffee:    by the time I got there (I’d wandered along the beach me

Interesting clouds .....

21st August 2020 (Friday)       07.00 ....   It’s not a bad looking morning: though we have had a shower o’ rain there is a lot of ‘bloo’ in the sky.   Sunny spells with light showers, on a fresh breeze from the southeast (the wind is going to veer to the southwest in the afternoon)   is the forecast for KY9 today.    09.00      I ended up going to ‘The Store’ (Anstruther) .... mostly to give the car a run but I did get a few bits and pieces:   I didn’t need fruit or vegetable as Julie (next door) gave me those when they had to go back south;    a good deal of which has been converted into Scotch Broth and is now in the freezer.     Come September I will venture further in the car.... if the Toilets across Fife are open.   The journey to Elie and Anstruther was done without running into any showers, but there’s a heavy looking sky coming over just now so it looks like we might catch some rain.     I’m going to be working on the computer .... in the morning anyway;    I might get ou

20th August 2020 (Thursday)      08.00 .... we have a ‘drying day;    and I have some of washing on the line already, with sheets going through the machine as I type.     We had some rain overnight but not very much so it looks like being a bonnie but breezy day.... and the wind (F4) appears to be coming from the southwest just now.... the sea is running that way anyway. I’m feeling brighter this morning, but I don’t intend falling asleep in the Hutte with the door closed again.... it gets too hot, and I end up with a serious attack of ‘the mauchless’.     Today is going to be a ‘rest day’, though I will get out on the bike by lunchtime.     Must ‘go’ slight flap on got a boiling kettle to sort out. 16.00     I had planned to go to Neil’s this morning (and the ‘paper shop’) on my way home from Kinneuchar.... but couldn’t go to either:   I forgot to take a mask with me.     Other than that I enjoyed my bike run.... and I met Stewart;   busy doing things to the boathouse just now.

Scotch Broth ....

19th August 2020 (Wednesday)      08.00 ....As per forecast we have an Tenth tee. overcast sky with the chance of early morning drizzle;    I’ll go for the paper later .... probably round about lunch time, when the sun  should have broken through.       I’ve got the Scotch Broth going in the crock pot (it should be ready about 16.00);   this is the first broth I’ve had with a kumera in it.... so will be interesting to see if it changes the flavour much.    19.00      The soup has turned out tasty so I’ll have plenty for freezing tomorrow.   I went up to Chapel Green in the morning to get some photos of golfers from Lundar Law.... and of the seaweed gatherers on the rocks at Coalbakie;   and I’m pleased with the results.    There was a cool Easterly wind so I went round to Maggie’s Seat and sat there contemplating.    I watched a bloke come settle down on one of the seats and went over to talk to him.... and to get some beach photos.     He was about to take a Yoga class... he has a r

Anniversary .....

Image
18th August 2020  (Tuesday)      07.00 .... It is eleven years ago today since  Elie School 1951 - Maggie second row down right hand end. Maggie died;   it was with a lot of help from my family and friends that   I managed to come to terms with the trauma of that sad day, and now live a meaningful life.    As is my norm on this anniversary I plan to go and have morning coffee with ‘the Boss’,   then go to Balcarres .... weather permitting.     The forecast isn’t bad but I doubt if Balcarres will be possible, due to heavy showers:   in which case I’ll go to Balcarres as soon as we have a nice sunny day.     At the moment we have thick wet fog, so it looks like it could be ‘afternoon coffee’  at Chapel Green. 17.30     It was afternoon coffee with ‘The Boss’, after the mist suddenly cleared away   in the early afternoon.     I did go up to Chapel Green in the morning but didn’t take coffee with me;   I attached a rose to the seat;   usually it's a red ‘Dunblane’ rose, but there was
