Breezy ....

9th April 2022 (Saturday – Auchnagatt)    07.30 ....There’s a lot of cloud about

"Davie Broon" Cropmaster.

but the forecast is ‘good’;  sunny spells with a fresh breeze.... and not very warm .... max 8C.   Any showers we might have will probably be hailstones or sleet; it’s a ‘wrap up well day’  for the Ellon to Balmedie Tractor Event.

15.00   The ‘Tractor Event’ turned out to be a bit of a ‘Mystery Tour’.  Tractors and a few other vintage vehicles,  met at JRD’s Car Park in Ellon from about 09.30 for the 10.00 ‘Start’;  then, unbeknown to the folks waiting around the planned route, it all went wrong.   Iain and I had decided on a place in, Ellon where we planned to take photos of all the participants as they passed by;  but they went off in the other direction.   Eventually we went back to JRD’s in the car, to see what was ‘appening, and that’s when we found out they’d left and had set off in the opposite direction.    We met two tractors coming back from the Cruden Bay road, making for today’s (Balmedie) route;   so we followed them through Ellon past  a lot of, soon to be disappointed spectators when they discovered that only five vintage vehicles (4 tractors and an Austin 7 car) were going to pass.    By this time we were part of a procession of modern cars .... following two Ferguson tractors.   I waved.

21.00    Jackie was telling me that we had a rumble of thunder then a heavy snow shower at my catnap time;  I slept through it all.  The snow didn’t lie long because there’s heat in the sun .... but it has been a wintry kind of day.   Tomorrow is going to be slightly better but just as cold.   We’re going to Fyvie Castle tomorrow ... a National Trust property with walled garden and manmade loch so there should be plenty of photograph opportunities.

Today’s ‘Tractor Event’ was a disappointment;  it had all the ingredients to be an

interesting ‘event’;  but the participants didn’t get proper route instructions on the day.   So far there has been no explanation as to what went wrong.   Having said that;  I actually enjoyed it, even though only five vehicles travelled the route they were supposed to: it would be a big disappointment for a lot of spectators.    The only thing that went wrong was the sudden mix up with the route.
