Bright and sunny .... so is the weather

22nd May 2021 (Saturday)    09.00 .... There’s no denying it;   the Scottish

Jackie and Iain.

weather is changeable.     We have a lovely, ‘bright and sunny’ morning, though there is a lot of light cloud about, but not of the threatening kind;  a big change from yesterday.    The breeze is from the Northwest and cool but we should have a pleasant day.... and a good day for us going out on the bikes.   The ‘troops’ won’t arrive until mid morning:  I have the kettle ready to ‘go’.    This will be the first time I have seen any of the ‘troops’ since March 2020 .... other than on ‘Zoom’.

21.30     This has been an exciting day for me;  and I couldn’t stop talking.   Its 14 months since any of the troops were able to visit, so I made up for the lost time and gave my tongue a load of exercise.   Iain brought down some of ‘N’ gauge rail ‘stock’ he’s been buying, and set up a circle of track so that I could see the see the engines in action.   The most impressive of all was the Deltic (diesel loco) ‘cos it had all the sounds that you associate with them .... the throaty engine noise, the horn etc.  Eurostar, although chasing its tail round the wee circle of track, was very impressive;  this has got me back in the mood to sort out the wee attic so that we can set up a ‘train set’ there.    We also unearthed three of our steam engines.... including the Flying Scotsman.    They’ve been unused since just before Maggie died (Maggie died 36 hours after we had been at a St Andrews Model Railway show).

After lunch we went up to Chapel Green on the bikes, then along to Elie and home by way of Elie Estate:  Although the weather was ‘bright and sunny, there was a cold wind, much colder than it should be at this time of year.   We photographed our way round, stopping at the usual viewpoints;  it was a good day for the camera, with interesting light and loads of (gorgeous) clouds.   Showers could be seen towards Crail and St Andrews, but we were lucky.  The ‘troops’ set off home about 18.00... and should be home about 20.30.

Tomorrow is going to be a ‘rest day’ that’s for sure;   I am tired tonight, after a good, old fashioned, happy day.   Today I had the feeling that things are getting back to ‘some kind of normal, but much depends on what happens with the virus, over the next month or

so.

It’s one tired ‘boy’ that's about to make his bedtime chocolate drink.
