Bad hair day .....

17th November 2022 (Thursday)     08.15 .... Well... it’s wet and windy ....

Ferry Road this morrrning.

not a ‘good hair day’!   This wet and windy weather is forecast to be with us through to Friday, so I won’t be going to the beach.... nor going out on the bike!   Not until the sunny spells come our way.

15.30    My word it is a ‘bad hair day’.   I decided to go to Leven to visit a new gallery/framing Studio in shop in Lower Methil.  I went to Alice’s for a cuppa and then we both went to the Gallery.   There’s a room dedicated to original paintings;  including many with East Neuk subjects....one of which was a picture of Elie Harbour (from the Toft).  There is a good choice of, high quality paintings from all around Scotland.   It was a good place to be when we’re experiencing an ‘extremely bad hair day’.

November 2005 sunrise.

21.00    The Ferry Lodge workmen got a lot off work done today in spite of the weather.  To me it looks like they will soon be building the retaining wall.  They have excavated down into sand of what would have been dunes at one time.    It’s interesting seeing all this happen.   There are traces of an old building on the site.    Maggie’s family talked of a ‘Drill Hall’ being in the vicinity of Ivy Cottage in Napoleonic times;  the threat of invasion by the French was taken seriously at that time;  it was probably the first time that serious steps were taken to set up some defence round the coast of the UK.   So far I have never found any reference to a Drill Hall in any of the local history books.   That said;  Maggie’s ancestors lived in this corner of ‘The Ferry’ at that time... and before that time: so it could be one of those ‘local’ things that pass down by word of mouth.   I don’t suppose we’ll ever know.

It hasn’t been a good day for the camera, but I took a couple of photos before I set off

November 2005.

this morning;  and before the rain was seriously heavy.   I went into the Alberto Archive for the other two!

I’ve been putting out the bin;  and it’s still raining;  Lochgelly (where the Fife Weather Station is) has had 32mm of rain (so far) today.   There won’t be much dust around tomorrow!
