Quiet morning ....

29th August 2024 (Thursday)     08.00 .... It's nice morning even though the sky is overcast;  the

sun should break through soon to give us sunny intervals with afresh breeze.   It is cool just now but hopefully it should be warmer when the sun does break through.   I expected the early part of the morning to be sunny and planned on going to the harbour, but that was rapidly cancelled ..... and the kettle switched 'on'.   The Fife Weather cams are all showing overcast skies, but there are a few promising looking breaks here and there!

19.32    Alice arrived off the X60 bus as planned, and we set off for Ivy via Balbuthie Loan and Kinneuchar.   Alice's Dad was a horseman on Balbuthie Farm and they lived in one of the cottar houses.

I had hoped we could have morrrrrrrrrrrrrning coffee on the patio but it was too cold in the frisky breeze;  and that's  how it was all day.   Nice enough  weather but cold in the wind.

The villages are still busy with holiday makers, and  why not?.... this is a bonnie corner of Mother Earth and a nice place to 'relax and unwind'.... and, even on cool day like today, it can be warm.....  sheltered from the breeze.   Anyway we had a restful day, having a wander round the new patio and garden, and chatting after lunch.

I took Alice up to Elie to catch the bus but we lost time on the journey along Liberty and she missed the X60.... but caught the '95' at the school bus stop.   Unfortunately Alice had a mishap and stumbled  hurrying to get the bus.  I was having a puff of the 'bloo' inhaler and didn't see her fall, but she says that got off lightly with grazed hands and knees.   As she said 'it was more embarrassing than sore'.   Though Alice might feel differently about that now.

21.00    It's cold tonight (I was out putting stuff in the bucket) so I've put the heating on for half an hour before bedtime.   Tomorrow is going to be another sunny but cool day..... the wind is going to be lighter so it shouldn't feel as cold as it did today.
Some of you may remember me writing about Ian and Les Johnston who, along with their parents, moved from Edinburgh to stay in Earlsferry (Aldersyde) during World War II.   The boys attended Elie primary school while living here, then the family moved back to Edinburgh at the end of the War.   After finishing their education they both ended up working in Australia.   Ian, the younger of the two brothers (90)  is coming over for a holiday touring around Scotland, and is visiting me on Sunday 8th September.  Les
(94) has been advised not to travel long distance so he can't come.  I am looking forward to meeting Ian and hope to wander up the High Street with him (weather permitting).   The brothers remember many of the old names Jimmy Lowson, Jimmy Linton, Stewart Eason, and the Duncan girls and boys of Roseberry.  I suspect than the only person in Earlsferry who could remember Ian and Les would be Marie (Dougal).
