Damp morning ....

14th September 2021 (Tuesday)     07.00 .... No wasps this morning;

John, JB and Emily at the Cockstail rocks.

yesterday morning would be a ‘one off’ when the nest (usually underground for Red Wasps - vespula rufa) was abandoned at the end of the season.

 At the moment our weather is overcast and damp .... but it is supposed to brighten up in the afternoon;  there’s hardly any wind and it’s warmer than I expected.   The plan is to go to the harbour in the morning, where the ‘Troops’ will do some pier jumping, then go to St Andrews in the afternoon.   I think that’s the ‘plan’.

08.30     I’ve just been on Skype to ‘M’  (Margaret- in New Zealand).   She has bought a new i-pad and Linda (her daughter) has it all ‘up and running’, including Skype.   New Zealand has been on a snap lockdown because of the increasing numbers of  COVID cases in Auckland six weeks or so ago, and the older folks are feeling stressed.   ‘M’ gets back to bowling (keen bowler) this week so that will help get things back to normal for ‘M’.   It was good chatting to her, something we haven’t done for a long time.

West Sands - St Andrews.

18.30    The weather hasn’t been the prettiest, but we had an enjoyable couple of hours in St Andrews..... and, even though it was overcast at least it stayed dry.   St Andrews was busy, as it always is;  most of the time I had the feeling that things were nearly back to normal;  at other times I felt ‘exposed’.   I am not looking forward to winter;  I think it is going to be a dodgy time for elderly people.   The fact that ‘they’ are beginning to give ‘booster’ jabs next week (in England),  with the flu jab soon to follow, should  help;  but, if they continue to ‘let it rip’, as they have done for the past three months, we shouldn’t be surprised when ‘things get out of hand’.   It will be the elderly, and those with underlying health problems, who will be going over the top and heading for ‘no man’s land’.

Tomorrow’s weather looks like being ‘more of the same’.   Emily and John set off home

West Sands Henge - St Andrews.

tomorrow (Somerset), leaving ‘JB’ i/c of ....me;  they are coming along for a cuppa etc. before heading south.   It has been great seeing Em and John again;  COVID has been a bit of a nuisance right enough.    Hopefully everything will have settled down into some kind of normality by the Spring of 2022.
