Lovely morning ....


8th May 2018 (Tuesday) .... 08.30    I can hardly believe this:  on this date

60 years ago I arrived at Aldershot to begin my National Service, in the  Royal Army Service Corps.    This was the first day of an interesting and enjoyable two years, though I didn’t actually know it that particular morning.   
We have another gorgeous morning here, and the sun was warm even when I was out, not long after sunrise.    I’ve been round the villages on the bike, and they are quieter than they were at the weekend!
I’m going to try to fix a puncture on Maggie’s bike today... that’s the ‘plan’.    That and potter around the garden.

21.30     The best part of the day was when I went out on the bike in the morning;  since then I’ve had an enjoyable, if slightly frustrating day, trying to repair a puncture.     So far I have patched two tiny leaks, but the tyre is flat again so there has to be a third.... or perhaps fourth.    I remember picking up multiple hawthorn thorns the last time I was out on Maggie’s bike... and repairing multiple punctures.    I’ll buy a new inner tube the first time I’m in Kirkcaldy.    Today I was working with the wheel attached to the bike;   tomorrow I’ll take the wheel off, so that I can check the inside of the tyre.    It looks I could have an interesting morning tomorrow.    I have the Friendship Lunch in the afternoon.

Apart from fiddling about with the bike, I’ve had a quiet day.    It has been a bonnie

day, and warm;  it was 20c in Ivy garden just after lunch.    In spite of the lack of success, I enjoyed sitting in the sun, and working on the bike.   In fact I was out there half an hour ago, took the wheel off the bike, and repaired another two tiny leaks, and left the tube, inflated, to see if it leaks overnight.     Exciting stuff.

The weather forecast for tomorrow isn’t  great;   cooler with the chance of rain in the afternoon;  cooler means that the temperature will be round about the average for the time of year.    I’ll do some bike maintenance before going to the Friendship Lunch.... probably in the car.

Pittenweem swimming pool....

20th September 2017 (Wednesday) ... 13.30    When I went along to Elie for the papers this morning, I got slightly diverted and ended up along at the old Pittenweem tidal swimming pool.  Pittenweem  swimming pool.    Unfortunately we have a, mostly overcast, with occasional spits and spots of rain, morning.     I must go back on a ‘bright and  sunny’ morning... this will show up the different colours of the sandstone rocks etc better.    It is an interesting spot, and would have been busy in the 1930’s , 40’s and 50’s.        20.30     My day has been spent pottering around Ivy... including baking a batch of wholemeal scones.    Note to self .... I must remember to freeze some of them this time;  rather than feed them to Blob and his pals.     It has been a grey and sometimes damp day;  not a day for bumbling about outside.    The ‘cold’ that I had last night didn’t come to anything.... Quiet morning ....

 5th October 2023 (Thursday)     09.30.... The crock pot has been fired up with a batch o’ Scotch Broth, George’s bucket has been put out for tomorrow morning....I have had breakfast, and now on my third cuppa of the morning; hoping for a stress free day.   The past two days were not stress free. Yesterday began really well.... I got the car insurance sorted, and was   settling down to check FB.    I saw a photograph captioned ‘Seal on a floe .... or was it?’   Being inquisitive I ‘clicked’ on it;   and that   was it .... flashing warnings all over the computer screen.     I’d been hacked.   A small window appeared purporting to be from Microsoft Security so I clicked on that and got an 0800 number to phone;    which I did and was answered by an Indian.     That’s when I should have pulled the plug on the computer.    However, h e as very   plausible so I began to follow his instructions for a few minutes... then  began to get suspicious;   especially when he began to insist that I

Warm and damp ....

4th October 2023 (Wednesday)     08.00 .... there’s been light rain overnight and the forecast is ‘strong winds and rain’, but it’s not raining at the moment.... and it’s warm.   I think I’ll go for the paper (on the bike) before rain arrives.... the wind freshens.  Slight ‘flap on’. 09.30 .... Go out before the wind freshened?.... it was already F6 (at the Breakwater) when I was out.   Guess who didn’t go down to the harbour!   That said even at the Breakwater the wind was warm.   I didn’t stop at the Breakwater, in fact I couldn’t stop.... the wind blew me half way along South Street and I was up on The Terrace in ‘nae time’.     I managed to stop, at my usual place, and take a few photos before heading for the shelter of the High Street... and the ‘paper shop’.    The streets were quiet and I thought about going up to Chapel Green but decided give CG a miss today.....   and have drawing day. 22.45    My computer was  hacked this morning and I am going to use the wee laptop until Ia
