Thick wet fog .....

25th January 2017 (Wednesday) ..... 09.30    On this date 258 years ago, Scotland’s famous ‘son’,  Robert Burns, was born, so we will start today’s Hutte with two lines from his  poem “Tam o’ Shanter” ......
“Pleasures are like poppies spread – you seize the flow’r, it’s bloom is shed;
Or like the snowflake in the river - a moment white, then gone forever”!
.... enjoy your “Burns Day” wherever you are.

Yesterday we had a gorgeous Spring like day;   today we have not!     Today we have
Haggis neeps n' tautties
thick, wet, fog .... not a day for going onto a Nature Reserve.     I will go ‘downtown’ later.... by then the sun might have broken through, though the chance of that happening doesn’t look promising just now.    A cuppa is required methinks!

22.30     Jings ....this has been a miserable day as far as the weather went;   the fog never lifted until sunset time.... in fact at times through the day it was the thickest fog I have ever seen from my bedroom window,     However that didn’t stop this being an interesting, and productive day.    Fiona, one of Janice’s friends came round in the morning, then Debra arrived, so, for a time, there was a lot of happy ‘girl talk’.    Fiona left, then Debra and Janice went out to the shops.    I baked ‘Melting Moments’ when the girls were out, and  had a cuppa, and ‘MM’ with
Steamed pudding
the girls when they meandered back from the shop.

In the afternoon Janice and I, operating as a smoothly operating team, concocted a syrup steam pudding..... and cooked it the auld fashioned way;   in a ‘steamer’.    The process of manufacture led to a lot of laughs... and a lot of sponge;   I had to make two 4x4x4 batches.   I thought it was going to be too sweet, but done the way Janice said it turned out perfect;   the syrup soaked into the sponge.     The last time I made one, the syrup remained mostly on the outside of the sponge.... that was done in the microwave.    Obviously I need a ‘steamer’.     The steam pudding was the third course at our mini Burn’s Supper Dinner tonight.... the ‘big’ one (Burn's Supper) being on Saturday.
