Nice morning ....
11th August 2025 (Monday) 08.45 We had some light rain overnight, but that is moving away
and the clouds breaking up, to give us sunny intervals with light breeze .... so it will be hot in the afternoon. I'm thinkin' I might have to water the tubs; it looks like the overnight rain wasn't enough.
20.15 It has been a nice day. I did some gardening, including watering the tubs, and began cutting back Maggie's ivy. Cutting back the Ivy is not my favourite job, so there's usually a number of 'cuppa breaks' involved. All that was before the heat of the afternoon. When I went out after lunch the air felt hot; luckily I'd done most of the work in the morning, so abandoned the'work' plan, and went back into Ivy; where I watched the 'News' and catnapped. It's going to be warm for the next few days; they may end up as 'computer' days.
22.00 I did some more gardening in the early evening, then browsed the Archive for a couple of photies for the blog. I decided to take a step back in time; to the "good old days" of 120 years or so ago! In the top photograph 'Earlscross' was being built when the photograph was taken.
The middle photo is a George Washington Wilson one of The Ferry High Street; and the bottom one the West End of The Ferry High Street.
I must get Iain to go up to the wee attic and bring down the all the pre digital camera family photographs, and the ones taken by Maggie and me over the years. We also have videos that I must browse this winter.
It's going to be "sunny with a gentle breeze" tomorrow.... and hot in the afternoon. The gentle breeze is going to be from the West at first then back to the East by morning coffee time. (That's 11.00... on the patio if it's not too hot by then). The 'work' plan is cut back some of the ivy before it becomes too hot.
It's seventy years since I passed my driving test, and I've been planning to make this the last winter with a car (which is why I have 'The Buggy"). I don't think I'm a bad driver but I don't enjoy driving nowadays: which coincides with the News that older people are going to have eye tests etc. so it looks like I'm thinking along the right lines. I imagine that the insurance will start to go up too.
Living in The Ferry without a proper bus service like we did have (the '95' bus came along to, and
round The Ferry as part of the route between Leven and St Andrews) getting up to Elie... or Leven, or Anstruther, was no problem. Now I need some means of getting to Elie.... hence the bike and 'The Buggy'. The bike isn't much use for shopping, but 'The Buggy' has a big bag that hangs from the seat. Neither bike nor Buggy is as versatile as a car in inclement weather, but I could get out and about on good days. There's much to think about as one 'matures'.
