Cloudy ....
21st August 2025 (Friday) 09.30 .... there's a slight change with the weather; we have an
overcast sky with occasional light showers this morning. However it should have sunny spells in the afternoon. WE were contemplating going to Gillingshill but the rain has put that plan is, temporarily, on the 'back burner' We were going look for butterfly's, but we need sunshine for them to be active. In the meantime I'm going to put the kettle on.19.00 Iain, er ..we've''' been busy today. In the morning we went to B n Q's (Leven) to get bits to finish of the scooter shed. In the afternoon we went to Gillingshill and 'Then Store' (Ainster) to do some shopping. Iain finished off the scooter shed, and had lunch in between runs out in the car.
We were looking forward to visiting Gillingshill because a Wall Brown butterfly has been seen there, but when we got there we were disappointed to find that the grass shad been cut (it was like a newly mown hay field). The Wall Brown butterfly like grassy places. Iain had a walk round the reserve, while hirpled up to a seat at the SE corner of the path. It's not the best seat because it's at a funny angle, but I was glad to flop on to it in spite of that.
We got a few photographs; none of a Wall Brown Butterfly unfortunately.
The plan when we left Ivy was to go to Gillingshill then on to 'The |Store', but I was in need o a drink of water and had left my water bottle in the kitchen. So back to Ivy we went; me to have a drink of water ... Iain to admire the work he'd done earlier.
Our journey to 'The Store' turned out to be a bit of a mystery tour due to work on the St Andrews Road. We ended up travelling to, and from, 'The Store' by way of the back roads.
'The Store'was quieter than I expected it to be; and I didn't see anyone I knew. The East Neuk must still full of holiday makers. There's certainly plenty cars going up and down Ferry Road!
We don't have any 'plan' for tomorrow, but I think we might end up at Kellie Castle garden. Could be
full of Wall Brown butterfly's. The weather forecast for tomorrow is much the same as it has been today. There's a lot of grass around the Castle, we might get lucky. Wall Browns are moving North, due to a arming climate and milder winters. They are not rare, but are scarce in Scotland as yet.
