Overcast ....

27th March 2025 (Thursday)    I'll begin by wishing, No 1 son, Michael, in Sunny Sussex, a "Happy Birthday"!   I hope it is sunny doon there!

09.00    We have a grey, and wet, morning in not so sunny Fife.... and it's to be thus most of the daylight

hours.  (I'm hoping for sunny spells).   A perfect 'shopping day';  but not a pleasant day for the roofers working across the road, on the roof of Flat No 3.  However, even though it's wet, it's not as cold as it was yesterday.

19.30    I enjoyed shopping in the 'Cheap Shop' (Home Bargains) with Alice this morning;  Jimmy and I  did most of our shopping there, followed by morning coffee in Sainsbury's Cafe.   Alice and I would have gone to the Cafe but it was 'Closed' and became Argos.   The woman that works in there (Argos) is one of those people not suited for the job she is in.   The one time I went in I came away thinking ... "she's not one to be dealing with the public"! The Cafe used to be popular and the Staff were friendly!   I like friendly.   Anyway we did our shopping and went back to Alice's for lunch and... wait for it .... Alice had made a 'bacon and egg' pie!   It was absolutely scrumptious..... and with loads o' bacon!  'Puku' (bless his non wrinkly 9 pack) is very content tonight!   'Puku'?.... Maori for stomach. 

Progress on Flat No 3

   



After lunch and 'after lunch' coffee I made my way back to Ivy in light rain.    I moored up at the door, took in the messages , put the kettle on, then  stashed the messages in the appropriate places.    As usual I fell asleep and had to reheat the tea in the microwave!

 The rain has been on and off more or less all day;  but we did have a couple of short  sunny spells.    It's raining properly now and I am settling for the evening.

6th October 2024 (Sunday)    "Happy Golden Wedding Anniversary"  to Brian and Moira". 09.00 .... All the Fife Weather cams are showing overcast skies.   The Anstruther cam looks the bleakest!..... the Lochgelly the least bleak.  The Easterly breeze has brought the weather in from the North Sea.... and  'sunny spells' are not mentioned in the weather forecast, but ... sometimes the sky looks promising!   It's a good day to be inside.  Luckily I, (and all the other guests), are celebrating Brian and Moira's Golden Wedding Anniversary in the Lindsay Room at Kinneuchar Castle. 10.30     It's still raining, but the sky looks promising now and again;  the sun might break though in the afternoon.  I had a walk round the patio in the light rain; very refreshing.    I'm having morrrrrrrrrrrning coffee before I start to get organised for Kinneuchar Castle. 20.30    We had a really pleasant family and f...

Nice morning ....

16th August 2024 (Friday)  08.30 ...It's a lovely morning but a layer of thin cloud is taking the Jackie. edge off the temperature so we have a chilly start to the day;  hopefully the sun will burn off the cloud to give us a sunny and warm(er) day soon.    The Auchnagatt 'troops' are expected to arrive about 10.30:  and I am organised .... and looking forward to seeing Jackie, Hazel, Catriona and Iain in one photograph.... a rare occurrence nowadays!  20.30 .... I got the photograph that I wanted... all four (soon to be five) of the Lawrie Family of 'Backhill of Inkhorn' (Auchnagatt) in one place!   It has been a most enjoyable day.  We had lunch at the very popular Cupar Garden Centre Restaurant (it was busy) followed by a browse round the garden centre:  the 'troops' did proper browsing:  I had quick browse followed by a catnap in the car.   The middle of the afternoon is my siesta time; and especially so after a good l...

The morning after 'Storm Eowyn' ....

25th  January 2025 (Saturday)     08.30 .....  Well .... that was one frisky wind yesterday Candlelight evening....Unfortunately not a romantic one! afternoon;   from 14.30 to 17.30 it was absolutely ferocious.    And I got some damage at Ivy Cottage;  a ridge tile blew off, slid down the roof and broke the rhone (guttering I thinks it's called now) so that will have to be repaired.  A Red Warning of wind means damage and that's what we have;  not only at Ivy but at other places around Elie and Earlsferry.... and over the whole area of the red Warning.   I only hope no one was injured by stuff being blown around in the wind.    It's the worst wind I have ever experienced in Earlsferry.   I have never felt so useless .... and helpless.    My neighbour Mathew came round to see if I was OK.... which I really appreciated;  I enjoyed talking to him.... it calmed me down a bit.  ...
