13th June 2026 (Saturday)    11.00 ....  It' a bright and breezy morning, with a light shower Photograph Courtesy BBC News Channel. now  and again.  The showers are infrequent;  do it's "a good drying day" between the showers!   Michael and Janice are away to Kirkcaldy to do a shopping.    I've ran round with the Hoover and  washed the dishes;  put them in the machine and pressed the button!    Tricky job that.     I'm going to have morning coffee in The Hutte ... and so a Soduko.  18.30    My word;  I am super impressed with a new TV. that Michael and Janice gave me for an early Father's Day present!   The photographs I get  from it are amazingly sharp.... as you can see from the 'Trooping the Colour' two photographs.   Happy happy 'me'!   The old TV is now in the bedroom! 12th June 2026 (Friday)     09.30 ..... It's a lovely morning... and a good drying day!     Michael and Janice will be getting ready to go to Uckfield Station.   Me? .... I had the best night's unbroken sleep in years last night:  I put the light out at 22.45 and woke up at 06.45!     And I had a long hot shower so I'm feeling rested, and  'playful'  this morning.    That said I have the car to 'worry' about;  however the garage will take care of that, and I should get it back in plenty of time to go for Janice and Michael.  Unfortunately I couldn't do the shopping I wanted to do!    That will have to be done tomorrow.     10.00    Apart from putting the downie inside it's cover, Michael and Janice have a bed to fall into tonight!   I'm going to celebrate that by having morning coffee! 11.30     The car is back at the gate.    I...

11th June 2026 (Thursday)     08.00 ..... It's a quiet kind of morning;  even the Blackie is quiet!  Light rain is forecast but at the moment it's not raining, though it looks like it has been because the patio slabs are wet.    I'm going to Leven (and Methil) to do a shopping:  Michael and Janice re coming up from Sunny Sussex tomorrow.   I'm going to have another cuppa before setting off for my first post of call .... Methil, and Alice HQ. 16.45     This has been an eventful day for me:   an alarm and a warning light came 'on' in the car as I was passing Mercury Motors, telling me that my brake fluid was low.   I could hardly believe my luck;   this happening as I was passing the garage.    Anyway I went to  the next junction (100 metres), turned and went back to the garage.    Ryan had to order a bit for it (it was more than fluid) so I'll get the car back later th...

10th June 2026 (Wednesday)      09.15 .... It's a bright and breezy morning;  with the chance thundery showers in the afternoon.    The thunder we had yesterday cleared the air and I have an 'almost frisky' feeling today!    Which is handy because I have a fair amount of 'work' to do.   I'm wondering if I have any washing to do because this could be a good drying day;  if the showers miss us.    I'm going to have an early morning coffee, and catch up with the News, before doing anything like 'work'!    'Work' is going to be of the mild kind today! 19.30    'Work'  of the mild kind? .... I forgot aboot that as soon as I finished the morning coffee.     The steps up to The Hutte were becoming overgrown with Lily of The Valley, and other green things with bonnie flo'ers.   Having looked at the weather forecast I decided to tidy up the steps. in the morning, because there's a ...

9th June 2026 (Tuesday)     09.15 ....  I'm seriously beginning to think of a long hot warm summer with this kind of sunny weather.   We have a lovely sunny start to the day, but light rain showers are forecast.    They (the light rain showers), will arrive after the jerseys, that I'm going to hang out in a wee while, have dried!    We have clouds drifting over on a moderate Westerly wind, but they're cotton wool clouds at the moment.  Anyway it's a lovely morning;  and I'm feeling positive!     This is going to be a 'work' morning, followed by a 'rest and play' afternoon. 18.30     It has been a lovely summer's day;  well it was until the sky began to cloud over about 17.00, bringing rain (and thunder about an hour later.    This has been a good day for me;  jersey's dry, and in, long before the rain came to water the tubs!    This would have been a really good day ...

8th June 2026 (Monday)     10.00 .....  It's a lovely, sunny morning here in KY9 .... a good drying day|  There is a chance of light showers, but I'm feeling positive.   Not quite 'bright eyed and bushy tailed' yet but definitely more excitable than I have been lately.   The 'plan' is to 'work' in short spells;  this old age thing is a nuisance when it comes to working!    Old age?.... me?.... No.... not yet!   Anyway I'm going to hang out a washing, then do a Soduko in The Hutte.   After all that, I'll be ready for morning coffee.  When I think about it;  I'm ready for morning coffee now!.... having been 'working' in the bathroom.  Kettle 'on'!  19.15    Today has me thinking Summer thoughts;  it has been a really beautiful sunny, and warm, day in KY9.    The 'light showers' showers missed us;  all we had were some bonnie clouds.    It was too hot ...

Nice, berween showers ....

7th June 2026 (Sunday)     17.00 .... I've been busy today:  having been to Methil to visit Alice, then, after a cuppa we went to Home Bargains to buy some  vital bits and pieces.    Unfortunately I forgot to update  'The Hutte' before going out.   As ever the roads were busy, but this applies to the whole of the UK;  and probably most of the planet where humans live!   The increase in car numbers is obviously related to the increase in the human population since WWII. Alice and I got the shopping done, and I got the things I wanted (a new shower curtain, and mat for the bath)!    And some food.   Mission accomplished!    Back at Alice HQ we had lunch, including Eton Mess (Alice version).    Main course?.... chicken in sauce ,with vegetables and Jersey tautties.   I won't need much for dinner tonight! I'd just moored the car up at Ivy Cottage gate to unload me messages,...

6th June 2026  (Saturday)      82nd Anniversary of the D Day landings in Normandy. 09.45     The sun was shining at 07.00:  since then the sky has clouded over... but it's isn't raining, though drizzle is mentioned in the weather forecast.    The 'plan' was to go to Methil, and Leven this morning, but I've had a migraine, so will do the visiting tomorrow.    We could get 'sunny spells';  the sky isn't heavily overcast. This will be a potter around Ivy day:   tidying up for Janice and Michael arriving next week.   Mind you, I don't visualise  much 'work' being done until after I have morning coffee:  I need something to get me into gear.    15.15    I went out to The Hutte pick up the glass cleaner squirter;  and did a couple of Soduko's when out there.   I can tell you it is not warm today!... and I suspect that the beach will not be busy!   I am n...

5th June 2026 (Friday)     09.45 .... We have a lovely morning here in KY9;   sunny, with clouds scuttling over on a fresh WNW wind.    light rain showers are forecast , but at the moment it's just a nice, fresh, morning.   Me?..... I'm feeling brighter:  not quite bushy tail;ed' but definitely brighter.    And, I think I have solved the problem I had yesterday with my asthma!    The Lilac Tree!..... I'm allergic to the blossom.    Every time I went out to the gate yesterday, my breathing was affected by something.    Heather and Ray came down for coffee and a chat in the evening, and it wasn't until I was saying cheerio, at the gate, that I suddenly realised that my breathing had deteriorated.   I had to use the 'bloo' inhaler.   Anyway I had a good night's sleep, and have taken an anti-histamine pill, so I'm almost ready to do some gentle 'pottering' around Ivy.   I...

4th June 2026 (Thursday)     09.15 ..... After a dull, wet start to the morning the sky is beginning to break up, with a lot of blue bits beginning to show:  we should have sunny spells soon.   And a more breathable air.    Gills were required to extract oxygen from the muggy, wet air we had first thing.   Heavy showers are mentioned in the weather forecast;  but they might miss us.   I hope they do.   The 'plan' was to go to Methil, and Leven today, but that has been put back on the shelf until the weather settles down.    14.30    Twice I  thought of going up to the sear at the 17th green with the camera;  and both times a shower started just after I got to the gate.   And it looks like another shower is coming in soon. I phoned Alice to tell her I wouldn't be visiting today;  and found that Alice is 'under the weather' too.   In my case I think it's the we...

3rd June 2026 (Wednesday)     09.00 .... We have a a quiet, cloudy, start to the day;  and heavy showers forecast, with the chance of thunder.    It doesn't look like being a good drying day..... and I have one sheet to wash.    Friday looks more promising as a drying day,   Today's plan? .....  make an appointment to get my haircut;  it's beginning to bother me. 10.15    Haircut organised (12.00), and the last piece of bedding (sheet) in the washing machine.   I don't expect it will be out on the line today, but I'll see what the weather is doing later;  at the moment it's cloudy, but not raining. 14.30    The rain showers have been with us since 11.30, with very short intervals between showers:  in fact I's say we've had one long shower, of varying intensity, since 11.30.   It's wet!    I feel much better now that I've had a haircut;  in fact I feel better almo...

Heavy showers ....

2nd June 2026 (Tuesday)    09.30 ..... We've just had a short, but heavy, shower that has upset today's  'plan!   Today's plan? .... was to hang out a downie cover that is in the machine ... and ready ready to hang out!   New plan?..... hang it out and hope for the best!   I've checked the Fife Weather cams, and the Kinghorn one had a couple of 'bloo' patches in the sky!    I'm a happy boy again.    19.30    The weather has been kind to me today, the washing dried long before the showers arrived in the afternoon.    Actually we've enjoyed a nice mostly sunny day.... and it has been warm. I had a broken night's sleep because it was so hot.   I eventually fell asleep;  then slept in!. The good news is ? .... the summer cold I had,  has broken, and I'm beginning to feel better.    It's always the same after I get the 'summer' booster jab;  I end up with a 'summer cold'!...

Light rain ....

1st June 2026 (Monday)     10.00 .... we have, much needed, light rain this morning;  in fact we will  have spells of rain  most days this week.  Light rain = low pollen count;  so a bit of relief for folk bothered by hay fever.    However, light rain also means it's not a good 'drying day!    Me? .... I want to go down to Ferry Corner to take a picture of the  road works signage! 20.30    The light rain slowly faded away and we had a nice  afternoon... a mix of cloud and sunny spells, with spits and  spots of rain  now and again.   A nice enough afternoon, that, near enough, dried the washing I put out.    As you can see from today's photographs I got as far as Ferry Corner, to get the 'Road Closed' (except for residents) sign etc.  All other traffic is being diverted along Links Road;  and two way traffic on the Earlsferry one way system. What have I done today?...

31st May 2026 (Sunday)      10.00 .... It's a nice morning;  mostly sunny, with a cloud briefly hiding the sun now and again.    A good morning for Sasha doing the beach clean she organised for this morning.  I' had planned to go to The breakwater (starting point) to take photos for the blog, but got absorbed by 'work'.....  beds to strip and washing to do.     19.00     It has been a really nice, sunny and warm, day.... and  a perfect drying day.   Moving the computer was the big job when re-organising the bedrooms, but Iain had that done by mid morning;  I had the washing machine going and did the bedding, the last of which should be almost dry by now.    The first load dried in 'nae time'. Iain set off for Auchnagatt after lunch;  I did the second load of washing, then settled sown in The Hutte to watch the washing dry;  and do a Soduko.   It was too hot in The Hut...

20th May 2026 (Saturday)     09.45 .....This is a perfect day for insects, so Iain is at the cliffs looking for  a butterfly that breeds there.  It certainly is a lovely sunny start to the weekend, but light rain showers could come our way later today.    At the moment it's sunny and warm;  which is why Iain is out with the camera.    Me? .... I'm going have another cuppa! 20.30    We've had a busy day;  well Iain has.     Hay fever has been bothering me, so I've been mostly useless.     Anyway the computers have been moved so a quick run round wi' the Hoover, (alias vacuum cleaner) and all will be good.  The bed will have to be made up but I can do that over the next couple of weeks.      The weather has been kind really;  only a couple of short light showers in the afternoon.   In fact Iain went up to Chapel Green to get a few photos of insects, and didn't ...

29th May 2026 (Friday)     11.15 ..... It's a lovely  morning and Ferry Road had been busy;  mostly because there's crane working at the West End of Ferry High Street.   When I set off to go to Elie I went up the High Street, making for Chapel Green, but had to reverse into Cadger's Wynd and drive (the wrong way) back down the High Street.    Anyway, I eventually reached Elie, handed in a prescription, then went to the 'paper shop';  Elie was busy!    I came back via St Ford, and found temporary traffic lights at the former farm cottages;  but, if the road is clear, they change automatically, so I didn't have to wait!   It's all go around Elie and Earlsferry this morning.   I need a cuppa! 17.15    Iain arrived at 11.15 (ish) ;  so we had a cuppa and came up with a plan for today.     We would go to Sainsbury's after lunch  to do the shopping.   In the meant...

28th May 2026 (Thursday)      09.00 .... WE have a lovely, sunny and warm, morning, with a light breeze from the SE.   The air is already warm so it's going to be hot in the afternoon.     It looks like being a 'rest' day for me.   That said the breeze should make it bearable.    Anyway the weather is due to change tomorrow, with the wind veering to the SW. 17.15    Joyful 'me'!    The weather has been sunny all day with a fresh SE win:  Actually it would be cool on the beach, but it was warm sheltered from the wind.     I've had a busy day;  not a hard working one, but one that had me doing something useful.   Sasha, and Nicola (daughter and Mum), came to find out what I knew about local erosion;  this was for a project she is doing at school.   I don't know if I was much help, but I enjoyed talking to them about Elie and Earlsferry.     Erosi...

27th May 2026 (Wednesday)     10.00 .... At the moment there's a layer of light cloud drifted in from the North Sea, on a light Easterly breeze.   However  the sun shouldn't rake long to burn that back; to give us with sunny intervals by lunch time.    Although the wind is Easterly it's not  cold, but definitely cooler than it has been for the past few days,   With the wind being off the sea I didn't go up to Chapel Green this morning, but did hang out a washing because it's a drying breeze!   I'd go out on 'The Buggy' but Ferry Road has been busy with traffic this morning;  it's still mid term so the villages will be busy. 17.15    The wind has freshened and, because it's off the sea it's chilly, especially after the heat of the past few days.    The change of wind direction and temperature does not agree with me, so I've been pottering around Ivy today.   Mostly  working on the com...
