Nice morning ....

3rd July 2026 (Friday)     10.00 .... It's a nice morning, with a sky that has mix of clouds and blue bits (5/8 clouds) clouds coming over on a moderate NW wind (some of the clouds look like healthy shower clouds);    drizzle is mentioned for later in the afternoon evening.  Joggers have been  noted, going down, and up, Ferry Road;  plus a wheen o' cars going down Ferry Road.    It's a morning to be doing things;  in my case 'doing' is limited tae no' very much, but is enjoyable just the same.     20.30    I often wonder why I am tired by evening time;  but when I think about it, I 'potter about',  more or less, all the time, from when I get up, until lunchtime, then have a rest until 16.00 then begin all over again until 18.00. when I have dinner then settle down to watch the TV. 21.45    'JB' and a friend (I'll get the details later) have been walking the last part of the 'English Way P...

2nd July 2026 (Thursday)    09.30 .... We have a 'bright and breezy' morning;   with a mix of clouds  and sunny spells coming over on a moderate WNW breeze.   I'm ready for action;  that means I'll be making my way to the Skeith Centre, after an early morning coffee!   And possibly 'The Store' bottle bank;  it all depends on which direction I take when I leave the Health Centre:  I might turn right, and go to Crail for a run.    20.00     The trip to the Skeith Centre was enjoyable;  but, with  Bob Hanley's Garage  demolished, and the house, more or less, gutted for renovation. passing the site is hard.    'Yesterday's' East Neuk will soon only be happy memories.    On leaving the Skeith Centre I made for The Store bottle bank.   I didn't do any shopping as I'm still working my way through the food that Janice and Michael left.    Crail?....the roa...

1st July 2026 (Wednesday)     10.00 .... There's light cloud, with sunny spells at KY9.  However, and this is good news;  light showers are to be with us most of the day.    That's the flower tubs taken care of.... we have a 'Happy Boy' at Ivy!   I'm going to do the ironing after this update, have morning coffee, then take a trip to the bottle bank at Woodhaven.    I thought there might be a bottle bank at Sainsbury's, but there isn't. 21.00    It has been a strange day for me;  I was busy until midday.   After midday I completely ran out of steam.    I'd done most of the ironing in the morning, and will do two sheets  still to do, after this update. I had organised my day round watching the England v DR Congo World Cup game on BBC1!   After the kick off I decided to pit the kettle 'on' and make myself a late afternoon coffee.   I missed the first goal!  It was 1 - 0 ...

30th June 2026 (Tuesday)     15.00 .... There's a heavy shower over Levenmouth Just now, and I am  hoping it will come this way and do the needful to the flower tubs!   When I think about.... hoping for that is naughty;  the folks on holiday won't be wanting rain!    Spots of rain are hitting the slabs now so I am a 'happy boy';  apologies to the folk on holiday.   Anyway I only need a short, but heavy shower! I've been at Levenmouth this morning.    Methil to have a cuppa with Alice before going shopping.    We went to Sainsbury's because we can get all the bits and pieces under the one roof.   Roof?.... the Sainsbury's leaky roof problem has been fixed at long last.    The barricades and strategically placed buckets that we had become used to seeing, were conspicuous by their absence! !5.30    The rain shower did come our way, but, and I'm sorry about this;  it didn't la...

29th June 2026 (Sunday)      10.00 .... We have clouds scuttling over on a fresh, Westerly, breeze this morning.   At times it looks like we could get a light shower;  but showers aren't expected until later in the afternoon.    The air is healthier, with the pollen count at Medium;  so It's a nice morning for the joggers, as long as they aren't bothered by hay-fever.   Me? ....I'm going to have a 'rest' day. 19.00   It has been another, warm sunny day;  but we did have a cooling Westerly breeze  and clouds that obscured the sun now and again. So it has been bearable; but I can well understand why the folk in the Middle east have a siesta.     This was going to be rest day but I did 'ousework in the morning, and pruned a rose bush that has been interfering with my string of patio lights.   The lights lit up the patio just perfectly for having a late evening coffee, until a week or so ago ...

28th June 2026 (Sunday)     10.30    We have a nice morning;  sunny and warm with a moderate, cooling, Southwesterly breeze.    It was uncomfortably hot last night, so the fan was 'on' near enough all night.    Me? .... I've taken the pills, and ready to do things.    The first thing I'll do is hang out the  washing going through the machine just now.   18.30    Although there's a fair amount of cloud now, we've had another sunny day;  and a hot afternoon, even though we had a nice cooling SW breeze.    It's the kind of weather that the holiday makers are looking for.    And, going by the number of folk going up and down Ferry Road, the holiday season has well and truly started.     The air is cooler this evening, especially when the sun is behind the clouds.  Sleeping should be easier tonight;  that said, since I started using the tower fan I haven't ha...

Breaking cloud .....

Photo taken on 21st June by Michael.  27th June 2026 (Saturday)     10.00 .... We have light cloud with blue patches;  blue patches = 'sunny spells'.   There's a light Southwesterly breeze, and the pollen count is 'high'':  a nice day, but it will be uncomfortably warm  (for me anyway) in the middle of the day.   I'm going to have another cuppa then go up to the shops.    Got my prescription to pick up. Thank goodness I have the cooling fan;  I woke up all hot and uncomfortable at 02.00;  had a drink of water, the switched the fan on 'Low', started a Soduko and fell asleep about 20 minutes later and woke up at 07.00.   During this hot spell the fan has certainly done it's job!   "Thank You Michael and Janice"! 13.15    I've been up to Elie to pick up my prescription and bits and pieces from the paper shop'.    Elie was busy, with Park Place lined with cars on both sides....

Nice morning ....

26th June 2026 (Friday)      10.00 .... We've just had a (very welcome) thundery shower, that has cleared the air;  at a guess I'd say that the pollen count is 'Extremely Low' just now!   There was a rumble of thunder, and a blip with the electricity that switched everything 'off' for a couple of seconds.  Everything is working again;  except me.  I won't have to water the flower tubs this evening!   The nearest lightning strike was in the Arncroach /Carnbee area. The sky is clearing after the heavy rain, and we should have sunny spells, with the chance of  light(er) showers from now until evening time.    Right now we have a lot of blue bits in the sky giving us sunny spells'. 19.30    It has been a nice day since the rain this morning;  in fact hung out a washing, including shower rowels.... and it dried.   There has been thunder around us but that missed us;  I only know there has bee...

Sunny, with a cool breeze ....

25th June 2026 (Thursday)     09.50.... It's another  sunny morning but there's a cool Easterly breeze, so the patio, although at 18C) isn't as warm as yesterday at this time.  The pollen count is High, but probably not as High as it was yesterday, because of the change in wind direction.    It's a nice drying day so I shall finish off the 'holiday' washing.   The 'plan' is to avoid going out as much as I can;  I'll tidy up the kitchen. I watched the first half of Scotland v Brazil last night, and  watched the watch the highlights on BBC i Player before this update.   Brazil won 3 - 0, but Scotland looked more like a football 'Team' against Brazil.    We now wait for the last Group games to be played, before top see if we qualify for the next sage of the 2026 World Cup.   Its hard on the blood pressure being a Scotland supporter! 17.45    It has been another uncomfortably warm/hot day, until ...

Sunny with a cooling breeze .....

24th June 2026 (Wednesday)     10.15 .... It's a lovely, sunny morning;  the patio thermometer is already at 21C.     We have a cooling SW breeze, that is taking the edge off the heat, but that doesn't take away from the damage the sun can do to delicate skin.    That said I don't intend going out in the midday sun anyway, but will still use the sun cream. The sheets are on the line;  in fact they could be dry by now.  I'll leave them until after midday before bringing them in, and hanging out the downie cover.    It has been all 'go' at Ivy this morning:   it's 'Flap Off' time now. 20.00    I decided to go to the harbour when I was at Elie this morning;  but I don't think I'll be doing that again, at least not in the middle of the day;  it's too busy with cars, and getting back up to the top of the town can be tricky.    I did think of getting The Buggy out early in the morning, but ...

23rd June 2026 (Tuesday)     10.00 .... It's sunny, and warm, with shower clouds bumbling over on a moderate Westerly breeze.    So there is the chance of light showers to cool things down;  and water the flower tubs.    I'm going to hang out a washing, hoping that any showers there may be, are somewhere else!  It was hot in bed last night;  but, Michael bought me a 'fan' thing, that cools the air, even at the lowest setting (Status 32" Tower Fan);  so no problem sleeping.   The worst time will be in the middle of the day; I'll stay inside, drink copious amounts of water/tea... and maybe even do some light 'ousework. 16.00    It's cosy out;   28C on the patio.   It's a sun trap so not quite as hot as that out in the open.   The washing I hung out has dried and I've hung out another couple of towels.   If the weather is like this tomorrow I'll do the bedding!   I'v...

22nd June 2026   (Monday)     14.00 .... Michael and Janice are on their way South to Sunny Sussex.... and a heat warning.    Here, in KY 9, we have a lightly clouded sky with the chance of occasional light rain now and again.    We were on our way to Leven Station about 09.00, and, having got through the temporary traffic lights, in Lundin Links, after a short delay, we arrived at the station to find the train standing at the platform.   But we were in plenty time so 'Flap Off'.  I sat on the edge of the car boot, to wave The Troops' on their way.   Ivy Cottage always feels hugely empty after any of the Troops go back home;  and that's how it feels now.   Not only that;  I took one photograph at Leven Station and the camera battery went flat.   The rucksack you see on the left is on Michael's back! From the Station I went up to have a cuppa with Alice, and catch up with some of her News, befo...

21st June 2026 (Sunday)     (Summer Solstice)      11.00 .... Beautiful morning;  warm with a light Southwesterly breeze.   Perfect day for a potter around on the beach .... under a layer of sun cream!   I had a brilliant night's sleep;  didn't wake up until 08.40.    I won't be watching football in the middle of the night again!   Unless Scotland is in the Final!     17 .00    My word .... it's hot..... and we have been busy, having been to 'The Crusoe' (Lower Largo) for Father's D\y lunch;   it was a triple celebration:  we celebrated Janice's Dad Father's Day (and Birthday), and Michael's and  My Father's Day.     The Car Park was really busy when we got there, with the Local Community Group walk, starting from the Crusoe Car Park; the walkers, led by a Pipe Band, then walked up to the play park, at the Bowling Green, to have a picnic.  ...

20th June 2026 (Saturday)      09.45 ....  We have near enough a 'wall to wall' blue sky .... and it's warm!    A decent spell of summer weather is long overdue.    I'm going to look out the sun cream! We had a late night watching Scotland v Morocco in the World cup in the Boston Stadium.    All the venues used for the World Cup matches are spectacular  some even super spectacular!    And all seem to be full at any of the games I have watched. 22.30     It had been a proper sunny summer's day;   and warm, verging on hot in the afternoon.   It was certainly too hot for me in 'The Hutte'.   That said;  I have been really tired today.... and have been falling asleep.    'The Boy' won't be staying up to watch football until 01.00 again, as I did last night watching Scotland play Morocco.   I'll be in bed by 23.00 tonight. Michael and Janice are out with fri...

Cloudy.....

Image
19th June 2026 (Friday)    10.00 .... We've the occasional blue patch in the sky, but rain is Photo Courtesy BBC News. forecast:  though I expect sunny spells now and again.   This is one of the 'longest days' of summer with the Solstice on Sunday.    There's an Amber heat warning out for parts of England or the weekend;  it's to be comfortably warm in Scotland but not a heat wave.     Michael is having a Lemsip because he has a summer cold:  I wonder where he got that from?     oops! .... probably me!      The 'News is mostly about Andy Burnham winning the Makerfield by-election, and the repercussions that might happen because of  this win.  (Probably the 'end' of the Labour Party's chance of winning the next General Election).   Andy Burnham is a good 'speaker', but, for some reason I cannot imagine him on the International Stage!     UK politics could be intere...

Cloudy .....

18th June 2026 (Thursday)      09.30 .... St the moment it's cloudy but dry;  however light rain  forecast.  That said, at times it looks like the sun could break through and give us sunny spells.    I was thinking of doing a washing, but I'll leave that for another day.    I'll run round wi' the Hoover instead.   I'm tired after an enjoyable day yesterday;  today will be a rest day. 21.00   Michael and Janice went to the Ceres Museum in the morning;  Me? .... I wasn't as frolicsome as I'd hoped to be, so stayed at Ivy and caught up with some 'ousework.    When they got back from Ceres Janice and Michael decided to walk to Lower Largo (their 20,000 steps) via Dumbarnie Golf Links.   After a refreshing cup of coffee in the Railway Tavern, they caught the bus to Elie.    By this time it was raining heavily, so they got soaked walking from Elie to Ivy. While 'The Troops' were doin...

Light rain ....

Image
17th June 2026 (Wednesday)      09.30 .... We had light rain earlier, but the sky is brightening and  sunny spells should be with us soon.    Heavy rain is mentioned in the weather forecast for KY9 so this looks like being a day of mixed weather.    At the moment we have a light breeze from the Southwest, and the sun is on the verge of breaking through! 14.00   'Th Troops' are off for a walk along the beach;  the sun is breaking through so it should be comfortably warm for a walk. After breakfast we went up to Cupar to the 'Fisher and Donaldson', Fudge Doughnut Factory and Tearoom, where we had morning tea and an 'energy giving goodie'.    In my case it was one of my 'five a day'. George and I used to work, in Cupar, for Bett Brothers;   so this was a bit of a nostalgic run out in the  car for me.   I've just realised that was 40 odd years ago.;  it was a nostalgic run right enough!  ...

Light rain ....

Image
16th June 2026 (Tuesday)    10.00 ..... It's overcast, with light rain at the moment, but it should brighten up, to give us sunny spells in the afternoon.    There's a light, southeasterly  breeze, so not as warm as it should be in June.    It's cosy down in 'Sunny Sussex'.   14.15    Michael and Janice went to Leven to get some bits and pieces:  I stayed  at home nursing a cold I have.   I picked it up last Thursday in the 'Store'; so should begin to feel 'bright eyed and bushy tailed' tomorrow. The weather has been a bit of a let down this morning;  but the sky is brightening up now and we expect sunny spells shortly.   We've been watching the tennis from Eastbourne (Queen's) and can see that it's sunny in, would you believe it.... 'Sunny Sussex'!     15.00    Michael and Janice are away for a walk, so I am thinking of going out to The Hutte for 'afternoon coffee'. ...
