Windy and damp ....

16th April 2025 (Wednesday)     08.45 .... There's a big change with the weather this morning;

with a cold, brisk Northerly wind bringing occasional squalls of rain.   "Strong winds and heavy rain is the weather forecast".   The first thing I noticed when I went out was the bitterly cold wind!   But we also get the odd, brighter, almost sunny spell.

Dogs will enjoy their morning frolic on the beach;  the dog walkers might not be so keen!   It certainly isn't holiday weather this morning.   Me? .... I'm feeling 'playful'.... but won't be going to the beach!

11.30   It has been a lazy day for me so far:  I've done some housework, had a wander out to the patio to check the temperature (9.2C), and taken a couple of photographs.  I don't think the tulips are going  open up today.... we've had a couple of 'brighter spells', but no proper sunny spells.   I'm going to have morrrrrrrning coffee after this update, then get ready to wander round to the 19th Hole.

19.00     It was good seeing The '19th Hole' busy at lunch time;  and we enjoyed lunch.   As ever I had 'Fish 'n Chips'.... in fact , if I remember correctly, we all had 'Fish n' Chips'.  I was lucky with the weather as although raining when I walked round to the 19th, it wasn't heavy and the wind wasn't too

bad.   It was wilder on the way home;  the wind had freshened to F4 - 5, and the rain, though not very heavy was blowing in the wind, and not pleasant.   However I wasn't that wet when I got back to Ivy, having been sheltered by work vans.   I promptly made a cuppa, switched on the TV and fell sound asleep.

The girls are going to the History Society talk this evening, but I am useless in the evenings now; the evening is unwinding time.  I'll sort out the few photographs I took, and look for something to watch on the TV.

Tomorrow is forecast to be less windy and wet, and there's a good chance of sunny spells breaking through in the afternoon, but it's still going to be cold.    I'll have a quiet morning and hope to go out in the afternoon.   I doubt if it will be on the bike because of the wind, but I might take the 'hurdy gurdy' for

a walk.  At the moment it's still windy and wet;  I should have put the chairs in the shed.

22.00    We were talking about the huge carrack (sailing man o' war) that King James IV (of Scotland) had built for Scotland's Navy.   It took 4 years to build (1505 - 1511), using all the oak trees of Fife.   Admiral Wood (Upper Largo) Scotland's Admiral of the Fleet sailed her.  'The Great Michael' as 'she' was named, wasn't a very manoeuvrable vessel, and very costly to use, so  was eventually sold to France.   It must have been an impressive sight in the Firth of Forth!   It was named 'Michael' after Archangel Michael.... and known as 'The Great Michael' because of it's size.
