Sunny ....
4th April 2025 (Friday) 08.00 .... We have another sunny Spring morning; but there's a fresh
ENE breeze so the air is feeling much colder. The temperature will rise as the sun rises higher, but is unlikely to feel warm out in the open. That means it's going to feel cool on the beach and the golf course most of the day. I'm feeling 'playful' so might get out on the bike in the afternoon.15.30 During breakfast I made u my mind to go the 'The Store' (Ainster) and do a weekend shopping. On the way along I noticed low cloud being blown in from the North Sea; I shouldn't have been surprised because after a few sunny days we can get haar coming in. Anyway since the sky has (mostly) clouded over with occasional sunny spells... and there's cold wind. I might go out on the bike, if the sky clears, the wind drops, and the temperature rises. At the moment it does't look like that's going to happen.
Although I never met anyone I kent, I enjoyed my wander up and down the Store aisles; and managed to get in the way of a few fellow customers. For some strange reason that makes me feel that my trip has been a success. Anyway I did the shopping and came home by way of the 'back road', intending to get fuel at Colinsburgh. That idea swiftly changed when I arrived there; the pumps were taken up with vans of all kinds, so I passed by and came home by way of Kinneuchar.
20.00 The cloud that plagued us for most of the day has broken up and we have a lot of blue in the sky.... which means a cold night to come. I didn't even take the bike out of the shed today; it was too windy (and cold) for me biking. A cold East wind gives me a sore throat. However I did some housework.... including the ironing. Actually, after the sky clouded over and the wind freshened, any time I went out the cold hit the breathing so I was better staying in.
The bottom photograph of a "Devil's Coachman" (ocypus olens) was taken not long after I got back
from the Store; before the sky clouded over and there was plenty light. This one has not long emerged from it's chrysalis which is why it's not completely black. You'll have seen them about, very recognisable by the way the raise their tail in a scorpion pose when startled. In fact it's the other end that's dangerous because they can give a nasty bite with their powerful jaws.
