Nice morning ....

9th October 2024 (Wednesday)     09.45 .... The rain has moved away and we have a brighter

morning. There's a lot of clouds scuttling over on a frisky North wind, but, although cold it's dry (at the moment).... but it doesn't look like we'll have sunny spells.  'Strong winds and rain' is the weather forecast.

11.30    Loads of activity on Ferry Road today.  The work on the sub station is being finished off, and, one of the flats being made ready for renovations.

It's cauld out in the Northerly wind so I cancelled the original plan, which was to go down to the beach.    I took a few photos of the activity, then scuttled back into Ivy and put the kettle on.    


21.00   The nuclear war drama 'Threads', first shown on TV in 1984, is being shown tonight on BBC4 (24).   I was in the Royal Observer Corps at the time and thought it very realistic.  It painted a completely different picture from that portrayed by the official 'Protect and Survive' leaflet, that all households got during the Cold War.  'Protect and Survive'  was the official propaganda suggesting that a nuclear war was winnable.   Anyway it's on at 22.20 tonight (for two hours) so I'll try to watch it.   If I fall asleep I'll watch it on 'I Player' tomorrow.  

The Central Heating man is coming to service the boiler tomorrow morning (it has been brought forward from Friday).  I made everything ready for him this afternoon.   There's a removable set of shelves that I empty and take out, to give him plenty of room to work.

The work on the Ferry Road sub station isn't finished:  I'll have a walk up there first thing tomorrow morning.  That's if it isn't too cold!    The weather forecast has temperatures below freezing in some parts of Scotland, but not for us, overnight.  That said we aren't going to be warm.   It supposed to be sunny with a northerly breeze tomorrow with a maximum temperature of 10C.

I didn't get the car back today so they must still be waiting for 'a bit' to arrive.

Pittenweem swimming pool....

20th September 2017 (Wednesday) ... 13.30    When I went along to Elie for the papers this morning, I got slightly diverted and ended up along at the old Pittenweem tidal swimming pool.  Pittenweem  swimming pool.    Unfortunately we have a, mostly overcast, with occasional spits and spots of rain, morning.     I must go back on a ‘bright and  sunny’ morning... this will show up the different colours of the sandstone rocks etc better.    It is an interesting spot, and would have been busy in the 1930’s , 40’s and 50’s.        20.30     My day has been spent pottering around Ivy... including baking a batch of wholemeal scones.    Note to self .... I must remember to freeze some of them this time;  rather than feed them to Blob and his pals.     It has been a grey and sometimes damp day;  not a day for bumbling about outside.    The ‘cold’ that I had last night didn’t come to anything.... Overcast with light rain .....

6th October 2024 (Sunday)    "Happy Golden Wedding Anniversary"  to Brian and Moira". 09.00 .... All the Fife Weather cams are showing overcast skies.   The Anstruther cam looks the bleakest!..... the Lochgelly the least bleak.  The Easterly breeze has brought the weather in from the North Sea.... and  'sunny spells' are not mentioned in the weather forecast, but ... sometimes the sky looks promising!   It's a good day to be inside.  Luckily I, (and all the other guests), are celebrating Brian and Moira's Golden Wedding Anniversary in the Lindsay Room at Kinneuchar Castle. 10.30     It's still raining, but the sky looks promising now and again;  the sun might break though in the afternoon.  I had a walk round the patio in the light rain; very refreshing.    I'm having morrrrrrrrrrrning coffee before I start to get organised for Kinneuchar Castle. 20.30    We had a really pleasant family and friends gathering to celebrate Brian and Moira's Gol

Cold and overcast ....

18th April 2024 (Thursday)    08.00 .... The Fife Weather cams are all showing an overcast sky:  rain hasn't reached Fife so far, but is expected to arrive by mid morrrrrrrning...."light rain and a fresh Westerly breeze" being the forecast until later in the afternoon;  but we're going to end the day with a bonnie evening.  Hmmmmm .... I don't think I'll be painting any bits of the shed today; and that was my project to take my mind off the car.   Computer stuff it will have to be:  I'm actually in a writing mood so this might not be a wasted day. 09.00   Forget the heap oops... car (it's in the 'bad car' corner);  I'm excited because the workmen are here to begin work on the patio. They arrived a wee while ago;  unfortunately spits and spots o' rain arrived at the same time and, if  the rain is heavy and prolonged they won't be able to do much.   Showers are OK but not prolonged rain.  Must 'go' got to have another cuppa
