Nice morrrrrrrrning .....

31st May 2024 (Friday)     07.00 ....  There's early morning mist around with a light breeze from the NE.  The sun will burn off the mist to give us a 'warm and sunny' day;  albeit there might be a cool onshore breeze.   I'm going to have a run round the villages on the bike before the traffic gets busy. 10.45   It's a good day for biking so I photographed my way down to the harbour.   It was very peaceful at 07.00 but I imagine it will be busy once the villages waken up.  With the weather forecast being good for the weekend the villages will be busy.  The busy summer period begins tomorrow (June), especially at weekends.   I've done the Elie end of the villages this morning;  I'll do Earlsferry (Royal Burgh of) after morning coffee. 19.30    I didn't go up to Chapel Green today;  I started sorting out 'JB's bedroom instead.    John  Arrives at Kirkcaldy Station next Saturday (8th): so loads o' time therefore no 'Flap On' .... yet!

Lovely morning .....

30th May 2024 (Thursday)     08.30 .... we have a beautiful morning;  and it's going be a bonnie day;  in fact we are in for a few days of summer like weather.   The heavy rain we had  has been mopped up by a warm sun and a light breeze;  a good drying day!   I'm going to do a washing before going to Leven to do a shopping.   If the weather turns out as forecast, this is going to be a 'play weekend':  the villages will be busy. 21.00    It has been sunny and warm...a really bonnie summerlike day;  and the weekend is forecast to be even better!    When I went to Leven the roads were very busy so I imagine that they will be even busier if the weather is as forecast.  Although I had thought about doing a shopping I didn't;  the 'Disabl ed' parking places at Lidl's were all occupied, and I can't get the car door opened wide enough to get out in the normal spaces.   However the second part of today's plan went perfectly:  I had morning coffee with A

29th May 2024 (Wednesday)    08.30 .... It's a lovely morning but there's a cool NE breeze;  not a biking morning for 'the boy'.   I've been for the paper (and got it), then visited the harbour (in the car).   The chilly breeze didn't stop one hardy swimmer.... but the temperature around me seemed to drop about 5 degrees all of a sudden.  There's a lot of cloud around at present, but we do have a 'sunny spell' now and again: I might get out on the bike if the sun gets going.   The weather forecast for the afternoon is  "thundery showers and a gentle breeze". 09.00    There's a diversion at the 'Ferry Corner';  the road to Elie is 'Closed'.   I don't know where, or how long it's going o be 'Closed':  I might have a wander down after breakfast.   They're fixing the leak at the Ferry Corner. 14.30    We've had plenty of heavy shower clouds all around us but, so far, only a few spits and spots have

28th May 2024 (Tuesday)     07.00 .... I'm having another cuppa before going out on the bike, on what is a lovely calm morning... though there is a chill in the air.    But it's early, and the air will warm up once the sun is higher.   I'm going down to the harbour because I never made it that far yesterday.  Must 'go' ....slight 'Flap On' ... it's a lovely morning and I need to be out playing.  There's a chance of  showers in the afternoon. 12.00    As is 'normal' when I go for the paper.... I forgot to go for it.   When I come up from the harbour I birl along The Terrace and South Street to the Breakwater. then home via Liberty and Williamsburgh.   However I got a load of photographs on the 'harbour run' so I'm happy.   The sky has clouded over since then, but it's nice enough;  and there's even the odd blink o' the sunshine.  I'm  thinkin' that  the bike will be away for the remainder of today..... becaus

27th May 2024 (Monday)      08.30 .... After a hot (and restless) night, we have a sunny start to the Bank Holiday, with only a light breeze so it's warm.   Unfortunately there's a yellow warning for thundery showers from midday to late evening.   Hey!...we could have some interesting clouds later:  As long as their contents fall somewhere else!   I 'm organised for my visitors;  maybe 'nearly organised' would be more accurate.  I'm going to run round with the 'oover, then circle 'The Ferry' on the bike before an early morning coffee. Slight  'Flap On'!  13.00   Emily phoned to say that they were 'on their way'.... via Cupar to buy lunch.    Oooh... I'm droolin' because I think I know what lunch will be:  I'm looking forward to it!   Meanwhile I have been out on the 'paper run'.... well it would have been the  'paper run' if I had remembered to pick up the paper;  so, I've been roond the villages on t

26th May 2024 (Sunday)    09.00 .... The sky is overcast with spells of drizzle blowing through on a cold ENE wind;  not a morning for the beach   The afternoon will be brighter once the cloud breaks up, but there will be the chance of showers .... and it's always going to feel cool in the brisk wind.   I won't be going out on the bike.  19.38    After breakfast I decided to sally forth and visit Alice.   By this time the 'light rain' mentioned in the forecast had arrived.   I was looking forward to the 'sunny spells' in the aftern oon.   As is normal nowadays the roads were busy:  it looked and sounded like a lot of younger drivers were heading for Crail aerodrome to slither about on the old runway.   I think it is called the 'Crail Bash'.   The temporary  traffic lights at Upper Largo were a nuisance... but I was only held up for 5 minutes.   So not that bad as temp traffic lights go.   However the Bawbee Brig is open so no hold up there.    I arrive

25th May 2025 (Saturday)    07.30....  At the moment there's a lot of cloud, but it's interesting cloud.... and it's breaking up.   There's very little wind and it's reasonably warm.   I had planned to go out earlier but, at 05.30 it was a bit grey.  I'll have another cuppa, then go for the paper.... and potter my way round the villages before the streets become busy.    12.00    I had an enjoyable 'paper run' this morning.... and to celebrate I bought a Cherry cake....one of my 'five a day'!   Apart from a few golfers going for early tee off times, the streets were quiet;  though an old '95' bus, at the 'Stop' in Elie, was making a lot o' noise!  I've heard tanks on the ranges at Aldershot that made less noise. The tide was well out but there was enough water to allow the Gannets to feed just off the harbour:  they seemed to be catching something.... probably Sand Eels.   There was a big beach with a goodly number of dog

24th May 2024 (Friday)    09.00 .... We have a nicer looking sky this morning;  it's mostly overcast but much lighter than it has been for the past couple o' days.  It's not actually raining just now but light rain/drizzle could come in off the North Sea in the morning, with sunny spells forecast for the afternoon.  It looks like being a bonnie holiday weekend. 12.45    The sun has broken through, but there's a sight chance of light showers;  I'll go out on the bike after a 'lite bite' lunch... if the roads are not too busy.  I expect the villages to be busy over the weekend. 20.00   We has a lovely afternoon with only one shower late in the afternoon.   We were lucky because I could see heavy showers towards the West of Fife and along the 'Sooth side'.   I had a quiet day (had a migraine in the morning) watching the Post Office inquiry intermittently.   This was the last day of Paula Vennels (former Post Office CEO) being questioned.   For 'tim

23rd May 2024 (Thursday)    08.00 .... After a night of rain, the sky is still overcast, with spells of heavy(ish) rain, so not a morning for the bike.   At times the sky looks promising but only fleetingly;  at least it isn't raining all the time.... and the pollen count is low.   This could be a good day to go shopping, or work on the computer.    09.30    I've had a wander out to the garden, and come to the conclusion that it's too wet to go up to Elie (in the car).... but I might, after I have an early 'morrrrrrrrrrning coffee.   There is much dreichness this morning so I won't be havin' the coffee outside. 15.30   It hasn't been a day for going out but I eventually decided to go up to the 'Paper Shop' and Barnett's the Baker.  That reminds me I bought a couple o' scones and I'm having a cuppa:  a scone wi' Strawberry jam would be very tasty.   Back in '5'.   I'm back;  with a brown scone and spread with honey.   Yes

Quiet morning ....

22nd May 2024 (Wednesday)    08.45 .... It's a nice quiet kind of morning, but there's a heavily  overcast sky and the promise of thundery showers in the afternoon.   At the moment we have a light breeze from the NE, but it's dry.... and not cold:  Actually, I might go out on the bike after breakfast.   There was a scattering of lightning strikes out on the North Sea last night, and up on the North West of Scotland.... but those storms have all faded away.   We might have some lightning with the thundery showers forecast.  Showers are hit or miss so, with a bit of luck they will miss us. 15.15   Colin and Sue biked along from St Monans (where they are staying (in their caravanette) to say 'cheerio' before they set off on their travels tomorrow.  We thought about going to 'The Pav' for morrrrrrrning coffee but  I was feeling slightly under the weather;  so we had a cuppa and biccies at Ivy.  Colin sorted out my Skype (I was able to get Skype form him and he

21st May 2024 (Tuesday)    11.00 .... There was an interesting sky (it even had 'bloo' bits in it) when I went out on the bike earlier;  now it's overcast with a cold NE breeze.   Light rain is forecast.  I had a sheet on the line but brought it in and will be ironed and hung it in front of a radiator.  That's what I've had to do with sheets etc. for the last few months.   Anyway I went up to Chapel Green (bike), with plenty camera stops on the way;  I came home by a devious route so have loads of photographs to 'play with'.   I still can't do anything on FB;  (it 'thinks' the History Society is my 'Home Page':  any photographs I upload will be 'here' .... on 'The Hutte. 11.00   I've posted three photographs on the Elie and Earlsferry Photos page;  posting as 'Elie and Earlsferry History Society! 11.30    I fixed it!   I found the button  that I needed to 'Press', so all is good at The Royal Burrow!    And I

20th May 2024 (Monday)     08.00 .... Although the sky is heavily overcast just now, it should clear by mid morning to give us a sunny but cool drying day!   Today's 'plan' is to do a washing and make cottage pies for freezing.   I'll set up the slow cooker after breakfast, and .... after that's set up and 'on' I'll go out on the bike. 10.00    This is me sitting down for only my second cuppa of the day due to my having been highly active!   The washing is on the line, the slow cooker going with the mince and veg mix for the cottage pies; and the dishes used washed, and put away.   I've come to the conclusion that the bug I had a couple of months ago was COVI, because is affected me in the same way as the first time ... when I had to contact Gil (Asthma Nurse).   I have been sleeping more than usual (even for me).  Oh... and my brain has been sluggish. Thankfully I'm able to do hard Sudoku's again, and feel almost back to where I was before

Misty and damp....

Image
19th May 2024 (Sunday)    08.45 .... Everything is wet after a night of heavy mist.... and it's still misty and damp.   I can't work up any enthusiasm for this kind of morning;  however, the sun will eventually burn the mist off; I'm enthusiastic about that ....but it might take a while.   West is the place to be this morrrrning.    19.00   The sun didn't really get going until 14.00;  not only did it make me feel brighter,  the temperature went up a couple of degrees!.... but it was never really warm exposed to the cold Easterly wind.   I said the 'West' was the place to be so West I went;  all the way to Methil to visit Alice.    Methil felt slightly warmer than Ferry Road did... but not much.  For some reason Alice does 'happy' most of the time... and 'happy' is contagious.   We had a cuppa  then Alan (Alice's son in law) arrived on his bike, so we had another cuppa and a good old natter.   Alan went off to do some shopping in Leven, and

18th  May 2024 (Saturday)    08.45 .... It was foggy when I looked out at 05.30  so I cancelled the 'plan' to go out early, and went back to bed.   The  mist is still with us, but starting to lift, and  we should have a lovely, 'sunny and warm', day soon..... there's a light breeze (E) so there will be wind chill out in the open.   I'll go out after another cuppa;  this is going to be a play/rest day. 13.15   My word... we have an absolutely gorgeous day at Elie and Earlsferry!   The mist was still fairly thick when I went out on the bike, and I got a set of local misty photographs: the harbour was busy... and will be most of the day I imagine:  in fact it could end up one of those tricky days of getting down to, and out from, the harbour.    The beach was also busy and will be really busy in the afternoon;  high tide was at midday so we have an expanding beach for the afternoon. 16.30    The mist rolling in, from the North Sea, has got rid of 'wall to wall

17th May 2024 (Friday)    08.30 .... it's a 'bright and breezy morning;  there's a moderate wind from the ENE and a lot of fluffy cloud around just now.   It's going to be a 'play day'.   I'll go out on the bike sometime today, but I intend doing some 'ousework first .... if I can get into a working mood.   Right now I'm not in a a working mood! 16.00   Hanging out a washing has been the only 'work' thing I've done so far today;  but I did take 'time out'  on the bike.   I had an enjoyable run up to Kinneuchar, with frequent stops to take photographs.   The countryside is looking brilliant just now and I came back with a load of 'photies tae play wi'.  Annoyingly I had a migraine not long after I got back home, and I'm now in 'rest mode'.  I've just remembered; I must put the bike battery on charge. 20.00    It has been a lovely day... even though there is a cool on shore breeze.   I never really got goin

16th May 2024 (Thursday)    08.00 .... It's cloudy with the chance of drizzle just now, but that is forecast to clear away to give us a bonnie afternoon.   It will be 'work' stuff in the morning, then biking in the afternoon.   Actually I might do the weekend shopping ... and visit Alice to brighten up a dull morning. 16.15   I eventually made my mind up to to the weekend shopping in Sainsbury's, and have morrrrrning coffee  ... oops we're on a diet ... dandelion tea with Alice.  I chose Sainsbury's today because I wanted Wensleydale cheese (the original pan was to go to Lidl).  Welll.... would you believe it Sainsbury's didn't have any Wensleydale;  Gromit is not happy!   Apart from that I got the weekend's shopping, and had the dandelion tea with Alice.   Mind you the diet bit was nullified by the packet of Lemon slices I'd bought to have with the tea!   Getting into Sainsbury's is tricky from any direction just now, due to the ongoing ro

Early morning fog .... ....

Image
15th May 2024 (Wednesday)     08.00.... once the fog lifts we should  have a 'sunny and warm' day; but, with a breeze coming from the North Sea, it might be cool on the beach, or anywhere out in the open.  I don't think I'll be biking until the afternoon.   At the moment the sun is trying hard to burn off the fog;  I'm thinkin' we should have sunny spells' by mid morning. 09.00   The breeze has moderated, the sun has broken through and we have warm sunny spells;  I might go out on the bike after I see how frequent the sunny spells are.   The garden thermometer was at 16C a few minutes ago.   I'll have another cuppa. 21.00  Well;  'The Boy' has had a busy, and exciting day!   After I had the 'cuppa', mentioned above, I got the bike out and  photographed my way to the harbour, then through Elie Estate, on what by now, a sunny and warm day.  I had wrapped up for the bike;  which is fine when you're actually biking.... but too hot when

14th May 2024 (Tuesday)     08,30 .... the weather forecast has for KY9 is "light rain with a moderate breeze" but at the moment it's 'bright and breezy.' with a mix of cloud and blue sky.   The 'light rain' is forecast to arrive by midday.   I thought of going out on the bike just now,  but the frisky easterly wind put me off.   It's breakfast time. 19.30   After breakfast I decided to go to Lidl's (Leven) to get a few bits and bobs;  then up to Methil to have morrrrrning coffee with Alice.  Izzy came by and we chatted until lunchtime;  when Izzy went off on a mission, and Alice and I had a tasty lunch.... all home cooking including an Eton Mess.    Alice makes a braw Eton Mess!  It's very tasty!   And calorie free!    I only managed to get two photographs today;  both taken from the car while waiting for the temporary traffic lights to change at the Bawbee Brig roadworks.  The new pavement and cycleway can be seen in the photo.  I think the

13th May 2024 (Monday)    08.00 .... the thunder storms bypassed last night;  the nearest lightning strike being off Crail to the Easy and Auchtertool to the West.  The West  side of the UK got the worst of it.    The air is fresher and cleaner this morning;  actually it feels cool after the warm air of the past few days.... and I'm feeling spritelier than I did yesterday and plan to go out on the bike sometime today.    Although there's a lot of cloud just now the forecast is good...."sunny intervals and a moderate breeze" .... a good drying day! 14.15    The mist we had earlier has cleared away and we are now enjoying  a sunny and warm day.   I went out for  a short run on the bike to discharge the battery ... only up to 'Sea Tangle road' and the Pony Field.    The 'plan' is to go for another run after the battery is fully charged. 20.00    It has been a bonnie day but the sky clouded over and the  air became chilly so I didn't go out on the bik

12th May 2024 (Sunday)    09.15 ....It's a bright and breezy morning with a cool southeasterly wind... and light rain showers are forecast for later in the afternoon.   I didn't go out on the bike because of the cold wind.   The beach is not the place to be this morning; it will be warm away from the wind... so I'm going to visit Alice, who is back from her trip to North Berwick with Izzy.  It might be slightly warmer in Methil. 20.30    Funnily enough Methil didn't feel as cold as the wind blowing up Ferry Road did this morning;  but there is a change on with the weather.   I went to the 'paper shop' to get the paper (Sunday Post)  then to Methil.   The volume of traffic on the roads, travelling in both directions, surprised me yet again: the traffic on he East Neuk roads, even the quiet 'back' roads, has massively increased in the past few years.... and I still can't get used to it!   Anyway I arrived at Alice's, well ready for a cuppa.    Ba

Sunny and warm ....

11th May 2024 (Saturday)    10.00 .... We have another sunny and warm 'play day', and, because I was feeling frisky I biked down to the harbour.   The sea was like a mirror so I got myself a few reflection photos: the tide was on the ebb, so we will have a huge beach now!  It's a bonnie day for the beach and it will be busy.  I might have another turn out on the bike after morning coffee;  it takes about ten days for the legs to get back to fitness after a long break.   12.00    The 'romantic corner' table has been washed and should be in place, on the patio by 15.00:  I might have afternoon coffee out there about 15.15! Janice sent me the photo of the Aurora Borealis, as it looked over Uckfield (Sussex);  I imagine the Aurora must rarely be as bright as it was over the South East of England last night. 20.30   This has been another gorgeous day; it had the feel of summer about it.  I didn't go out on the bike in the afternoon... it was too hot!   23C on the g
