Wet and windy ....

11th February 2026 (Wednesday)     09.30 ....I don't think I could ever get to like this kind of

weather!    I might like a couple of days of it in August, after two months o' sunshine in June and July!

Anyway, we have a 'wet and windy' day here, with no mention of 'sunny spells'!   But I could be wrong.   I'll have a run up to the 'paper shop' sometime this morning.  I used to think all the traffic on Ferry Road was running on battery power;  I now know that they aren't!

12.00    I went to the 'Paper Shop' and could hear everybody talking, which was a bit of a problem, but my brain will get used to that.  This is the first time I have been in in a shop with number of people.

It is a wet and miserable day... and, I  think it is turning colder.   That's all we need windy, wet and cold! That's my trip out for today .... and I remembered to buy the papers!    And .... I don't think my brain will ever get used to this weather!

17.00    I've been busy tidying up the bathroom and kitchen;  the clever(?) idea being .... to wash the floors before bedtime, hoping that they are dry by morning.

That's a decent amount of housework done today.   I have been watching some of the Olympics;  I like skiing, especially the Nordic skiing and shooting.   Controlling their breathing when they come into the shooting range must be hard;  that said the modern rifles they use area big difference from the .303 rifles we had in the 1950's... with open sights.  The Olympians use .22 rifles (modern ones) and shoot at 50 metres range.    I'd like to have had a shot of one of those fancy rifles.   We had .22 rifles at the Colinsburgh Rifle Range, but they were just ... well rifles..   At Aldershot, where I did my National Service training I was in 2 Trg. Battalion Rifle Team.   Many a happy day spent on the Ash Ranges in the middle of a hot summer in 1958 with the '303 shooting from 600 yards down to 100 yards.   Firing  in the prone, kneeling, and finally standing positions.   By the time you were 100 yards from the target, it was huge;     Happy, sunny days indeed!

22.30    France won the Gold Medal in the Olympic ice dance competition, with the USA taking Silver and Canada the Bronze:  Great Britain, Fear and Gibson, were fourth, but they actually looked  happy, and enjoying themselves while dancing!   And their music was something else:  I might be biased!
