The morning after 'Storm Eowyn' ....

25th  January 2025 (Saturday)     08.30 .....  Well .... that was one frisky wind yesterday

Candlelight evening....Unfortunately not a romantic one!
afternoon;   from 14.30 to 17.30 it was absolutely ferocious.    And I got some damage at Ivy Cottage;  a ridge tile blew off, slid down the roof and broke the rhone (guttering I thinks it's called now) so that will have to be repaired.  A Red Warning of wind means damage and that's what we have;  not only at Ivy but at other places around Elie and Earlsferry.... and over the whole area of the red Warning.   I only hope no one was injured by stuff being blown around in the wind.    It's the worst wind I have ever experienced in Earlsferry.   I have never felt so useless .... and helpless.    My neighbour Mathew came round to see if I was OK.... which I really appreciated;  I enjoyed talking to him.... it calmed me down a bit.   Earlsferry is a real community again.

The lights went out at 15.30 and came back on at 34 minutes past midnight this morning.   I had no problems with that.... other than the fact that the matches I had were 'dated' and didn't light.   Luckily Chris came to my rescue and gave me some:  I was #cooking wi' gas thereafter.   So no problem with food etc.... and I was well wrapped up so warm enough.... and I had a torch and candles.    I went to bed at 20.00..... and woke up when the lights came on.

The rhone has been made safe until I get a plumber to replace the front rhone and down pipe:  the next job it finding a plumber!   All the plumbers I knew are retired.   I'll browse local plumbers, on the computer, after a late morning coffee.

22,30   Neil (Appleton/Grieve) is going to try to find out who does rhones nowadays.   Growing old is easy;  it's adapting to the continual challenges that come with maturity that's the problem.   Anyway hopefully I'll fin someone who can fit me in sometime.

This has been a busy day, mostly to the troops who have got things in hand.   A big 'thank you' to Derek who came down to make the rhone safe, and to Neil who  is going to find out a firm that will do the job.   I have calmed down now that Storm Eowyn has been and gone:  as soon as the forecasters mention 'Storm' I get uptight.    Anyway I made 'sausages and mash with vegetables,  and loads o' gravy for mains course, followed by my make of rice pudding or dessert.   I'm a well content boy tonight.
I am ending the day with a 'Janice Toddie' so should have a good nights sleep tonight..... but shorter
than last night.

'Light rain with a moderate breeze and sunny spells' is the forecast for tomorrow;  and not very warm.  It's probably going to be a rest day for me after the stress of the last couple of days.
