Sunny and warm ....

9th July 2025 (Wednesday)     08.30 .... it's a lovely sunny morning;  more like summer time!   Iain

has been spraying the wasps nest  (Tree Wasps) with Rentokil spray;  the wasps are few in number now.   I'll give them another spray tomorrow.   I'm not keen on killing hard working insects but wasps can be a pain (literally) in the Autumn.   So they must go.  I always remember a wasp in New Zealand when I do this!

'M' had a big underground nest in the garden and they were starting to annoy us.   We went to the garage and got half a bottle of petrol.   Then... Last thing at night you (take the cork off the bottle) push the upturned bottle into the nest entrance then seal it with earth.   Just as I was about to shove the bottle into the nest entrance, the single wasp that think about, went into the nest.   It would have died anyway, because the petrol fumes killed off the nest... and all it's mates; it had no reason for living with the nest destroyed.  "Oh''....  finally, you definitely do not pour the petrol in, then throw a match at it!   Unless you want a whole nest of angry wasps around your lugs!

19.30  Derek's Celebration of Life service at Brewesterwells Crematorium, was, as Derek would have wanted, the celebration of a 'happy' life, mingled with the sadness of Derek's passing.   There was a big turnout, many wearing Aberdeen 'tops' or something red, because Derek was an 'Aiberdeen' fan.  As ever we met up with cousins and relations that we hadn't seen for many years.  The Service told of Derek's love of life and his family.  A selection of photographs brought back happy memories of a 'happy boy', husband, Dad, Grandad, Uncle,  Brother and Friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew Derek.

After the Crematorium we went to Colinsburgh Toon Hall for tea/coffee, sandwiches, goodies... and much chatting about 'the good old days.   We eventually all went our separate ways, with Iain setting off for home (Auchnagatt) after lunch at Ivy.   As you'd expect this has been a sad day, but the Service made it into a 'happy' celebration, which is what Derek... and Eileen, Michelle, Siobhan and Family wanted.

22.30   It has been a bonnie sunny day... and warm; 24.7C in the afternoon... and  its 20.5 just now!
We are in for a spell of sunny and warm weather;   real summer weather.   I might get the bike out and go up to Kinneuchar;  depends on how warm it is;  if it's too hot I'll stay in.
This has been a mixed emotions day;  I'm happy that Derek's service went so well, and was a real celebration of a happy life.  It was good seeing everyone gain.   It was good seeing and speaking to my brother Alan;  but it saddened me to see him in a wheelchair (he has Parkinson's disease).  Alan was a really good football player and played for Leven Royals when they won the Scottish Cup..... and for the Royal Air Force.
