Frosty ....
16th January 2026 (Friday) 09.30 .... There's touch of frost this morning: the thermometer
Low, last night,. was -1.2C; it's now reading 0.1C .... so just above freezing! But it's a nice, albeit cool, morning; however there is the chance of light showers. Luckily there's only a light breeze, so very little wind chill. I'm going to charge 'The Buggy' battery today; in fact I'll set that up immediately after this update.17.00 I've been a 'busy boy' today! The |Buggy battery is fully charged; so, the next time I am out on it, I'm going to have a longer potter around the villages. I'll need a good weather forecast to do that. Charging the battery didn't involve much in the way of 'work'; only plugging it in and unplugging it when it's finished ..... that's 5 hours later.
Maggie used to put the belt in the 'Hoover' (vacuum cleaner) back on when it came off; I've never done it!.... until today! The hoover stopped 'sookin' about a fortnight ago. I (eventually) thought, "the Hoover's no' sookin; Maggie used to put the belt back on when it came off; I wonder if that's the problem!". That thought was followed almost immediately by another; "if Maggie did it, it must be an easy job!". Well; Maggie had hidden talents, and sorting the Hoover belt was one of them! Three screws have to be removed; that was easy enough (until I dropped one of then); getting the belt back on was the hard bit. Anyway I eventually did it.... and got it back together, sookin' stuff up again.
Having done that (stressful) job, I was in need of a cuppa before going up to Chapel Green, in the car, at sunset time. The sun was behind a bank o' cloud most of the time, but it was nice enough, and not cold. We'd had a shower in the middle of the afternoon so the grass was wet. That's where today's photographs were taken.
21.30 I had two Robins in the kitchen today; I'd left the back door open and they wandered in. They weren't fechtin' so must be pairing up. I left the kitchen door and the front door open and they wandered out.
I keep my eye on the BBC News Channel throughout the day; and, of all the things happening around the world today the one that caught my 'eye' was Maria Machado giving her Nobel Peace Prize to President Trump. I think that was wrong; it demeans the Peace Prize using it for political gain. Because that's why she did it. Mind you President Trump could have 'graciously' refused it: he could have said something like "sorry my lass, much as I appreciate you giving me your Nobel Peace Medal as a gift, it's really yours and I'd like you to keep it!" I can't imagine President Trump saying that actually not the way I've written it anyway!
I can imagine the Nobel Peace Prize Committee thinking harder about whom they chose as recipients in future.
