Overcast, cold and damp ....

15th February 2025 (Saturday)     08.45 .... "Sleet with a gentle Easterly breeze" is our weather

forecast for the morning;;  but we should have a brighter afternoon.   All the Fife Weather cams looking 'gloomy', so there's no point in travelling to the West of Fife!    Me?.... I won't be 'travelling' further than the patio!  And as for 'Spring'?   It looks like we might have a few corners to go round before we get to 'Spring'!    Orf to put the kettle 'on' ... again.

12.00 .... Hmmmm.    Not the bonniest of mornings for doing the Coastal Walk that's for sure!   Me?  I've been round the patio (once) with the hurdy gurdy, and as far as the Ferry Road.   Oh.... It's all 'Go' on Ferry Road this morrrrrrrrrning;  but there's isn't much actually 'going'.  It should brighten up after lunchtime.   If it does I'll have a few more turns round the patio... four circuits = 100 metres.   At the moment it's wet and miserable.    Most of the Fife Weather cans are gloomier looking than they were earlier:  the Northward pointing St Andrews cam is showing the most promising looking sky at the moment.

Comma.
16.00   It hasn't been the most pleasurable of days:  the sky brightened up a bit after lunch but the breeze was still here (and cold), so I never went anywhere.   I ended up watching the 'Battle of Britain' (again):   and after that I browsed some sunny Photie Folders.   

The Comma butterfly photo was taken in Sunny Sussex.   They are common to the South of England, but are spreading North:  Jim and I photographed one, a few years ago, in Balcarres Den.   I'm going to have another cuppa.


21.30   I look at that photo of the Comma butterfly and think just how amazing that small, colourful insect is.   And it, like me (and you), is only a single, tiny part of the most amazing thing of all;  'Planet Earth' and all the other trillions of living things that are on it.   The Earth is one huge ball of life going round it's 'Mother Sun' in circles, which in turn is going round in bigger circles.   It makes me dizzy, not the going round in circles;  just thinking of how amazing it all is.    To date Mother Earth is the only Planet, that we know of, that has 'intelligent' life on it.    When you think about it that is really quite frightening!   Earth being the only planet supporting life in the whole Universe!  I mean;  that is some responsibility.   We humans need to change our ways I'm thinkin'!  

Tomorrow is going to be drier than today, but just as cold;  but we might actually have a few 'sunny

spells' later in the afternoon.   I don't have a plan  for tomorrow;  as usual it all depends on how the weather is.... and how I am feeling as to whether I go anywhere.

I went out to the bucket and discovered that it is one horrible, wet evening.   It will be an early night in bed for 'the Boy'!

6th October 2024 (Sunday)    "Happy Golden Wedding Anniversary"  to Brian and Moira". 09.00 .... All the Fife Weather cams are showing overcast skies.   The Anstruther cam looks the bleakest!..... the Lochgelly the least bleak.  The Easterly breeze has brought the weather in from the North Sea.... and  'sunny spells' are not mentioned in the weather forecast, but ... sometimes the sky looks promising!   It's a good day to be inside.  Luckily I, (and all the other guests), are celebrating Brian and Moira's Golden Wedding Anniversary in the Lindsay Room at Kinneuchar Castle. 10.30     It's still raining, but the sky looks promising now and again;  the sun might break though in the afternoon.  I had a walk round the patio in the light rain; very refreshing.    I'm having morrrrrrrrrrrning coffee before I start to get organised for Kinneuchar Castle. 20.30    We had a really pleasant family and f...

Nice morning ....

16th August 2024 (Friday)  08.30 ...It's a lovely morning but a layer of thin cloud is taking the Jackie. edge off the temperature so we have a chilly start to the day;  hopefully the sun will burn off the cloud to give us a sunny and warm(er) day soon.    The Auchnagatt 'troops' are expected to arrive about 10.30:  and I am organised .... and looking forward to seeing Jackie, Hazel, Catriona and Iain in one photograph.... a rare occurrence nowadays!  20.30 .... I got the photograph that I wanted... all four (soon to be five) of the Lawrie Family of 'Backhill of Inkhorn' (Auchnagatt) in one place!   It has been a most enjoyable day.  We had lunch at the very popular Cupar Garden Centre Restaurant (it was busy) followed by a browse round the garden centre:  the 'troops' did proper browsing:  I had quick browse followed by a catnap in the car.   The middle of the afternoon is my siesta time; and especially so after a good l...

The morning after 'Storm Eowyn' ....

25th  January 2025 (Saturday)     08.30 .....  Well .... that was one frisky wind yesterday Candlelight evening....Unfortunately not a romantic one! afternoon;   from 14.30 to 17.30 it was absolutely ferocious.    And I got some damage at Ivy Cottage;  a ridge tile blew off, slid down the roof and broke the rhone (guttering I thinks it's called now) so that will have to be repaired.  A Red Warning of wind means damage and that's what we have;  not only at Ivy but at other places around Elie and Earlsferry.... and over the whole area of the red Warning.   I only hope no one was injured by stuff being blown around in the wind.    It's the worst wind I have ever experienced in Earlsferry.   I have never felt so useless .... and helpless.    My neighbour Mathew came round to see if I was OK.... which I really appreciated;  I enjoyed talking to him.... it calmed me down a bit.  ...
