Nice morning ....

21st March 2026 (Saturday)     "Happy Birthday" to Iain.   He will be 6?.... oh, my word;  that

is auld!

10.15 .... we have a bonnie, sunny mornin;  and warm, with a light breeze.   There is a light mist ;  I cannae see the 'Sooth side o' the Firth (East Lothian), but it's a good drying day so I have a small washing out.    'Blob' is definitely 'in love';  he, and 'Blobbette' seems to be thinking of nesting in the Ivy bush.   I might get 'The Buggy' out later;  once the temperature gets up a bit.   I was thinking of going to the harbour but the roads will be busy.... so, Chapel Green it shall be!    Ferry Road is busy.

17.15    It has been a nice, sunny day, and although warm on the patio, folk coming up from the beach were well wrapped up.  There has been a chill in the air all day; so it would be cold on the beach and the harbour.   I didn't go out on 'The Buggy' because of the chilly breeze;  and I had two Amazon deliveries ths afternoon.  They both arrived safely.   One of them is an Electronic Photo Frame  (that Iain will set up tomorrow; the other is a book, to replace one that I loaned out a few years ago.

20.30    I'm looking forward to Jackie and Iain coming tomorrow;  and I have done a fair amount of work, including making up the bed.   They have the downie to insert in its cover;  that's one job I cannot do now.   Funny thing is I have always enjoyed doing 'ousework;  nor so much enjoyed doing it as seeing the finished effort.

That has brought back a National Service 'memory'.   Sorry about that;  but here it is.   After basic training we got out postings to different parts of the World;  I ended up in GHQ MELF.   Of our 'intake' Five of us were going to GHQ MELF.    Meanwhile, we had to wait for the troopship, Empire Fowey, docking at Southampton, after her journey from the Far East.   We were to be on her next outward to trip, to the Far East, stopping at the usual points in between Southampton and Hong Kong;  including Limassol, Cyprus..

This meant spending three weeks at Bordon Transit Camp, Aldershot.   While we were there we were

allocated to various jobs on the camp.  Brian and I were to be in charge of the dishwasher.   Normally after a week you were given another job;  but the Lieutenant i/c, us said "you two are the best dishwashers" we've ever had, so you 'll stay on this job until you embark.   We both enjoyed our time with 'our' dishwasher!    Happy days indeed!

Now, back to today!   The book that came today is a used copy  of  'Medieval Pilgrimage in Scotland' by Peter Yeoman, former Archaeologist at Fife Council, now with Historic Environment, Scotland.    It's probably in better condition than my original copy was, but this one is signed by by the Author.   I am one happy bunny tonight!
