Bright and breezy ....
13th March 2026 (Friday) 11.00 .... It's a nice morning, but there is a frisky breeze, so
there's wind chill; it's cauld on the lugs, but there's a lot o' fresh air out there. I've been up to Elie, and remembered to get the paper. Because of the wind I didn't go down to the harbour; it was windy and cold on the High Street. so it would be bitterly cold at the harbour. Anyway I got a few 'today' photies so I'm a 'happy boy'; and I might go out in the afternoon, if the wind moderates a bit.15.00 I'm glad I went out in the morning; because we've had sunny spells with squally showers in the afternoon.... and a noticeable drop in temperature. A nice enough afternoon between the showers, but much colder. The new parking restrictions outside the shops is much better for shoppers. No parking the car for the day to go for a walk along the Coastal Path to Anstruther or Crail, then coming back on the bus to the car. Visiting the shops should be much easier now.
At the moment we have another sunny spell; and I'm tempted to go out. I'll have a look from the gate, but doubt if I'll venture out into the wind. Might go up to the phone box; But I'll have a cuppa first!
19.00 I never went further than the gate when I went for my (short) afternoon walk; the wind was bitterly cold out on Ferry Road. No wonder I haven't seen many people out and about this afternoon.
Back in Ivy I fired up the computer and did a bit of browsing; that way I can enjoy the scenery and stay warm. There's always a cold snap in March; the 1947 snowstorm was in March. Anyway It's going to be warmer by the middle of next week.
It's shocking, and sad, 'News' about the six crewmen who died when the KC - 135 refuelling tanker crashed in Iraq. Apparently one tanker plane was refuelling the other: it must be awesome, and slightly frightening, when two huge planes are so close together. My thoughts are with the families of the crewmen tonight.
Michael (my son) served with the RAF, with the UK version of refuelling tankers, based atBrize Norton. When we were down there on holiday he took to a Squadron BBQ, and a look through the tanker plane (VC10). An awesome piece of kit. I remember Michael telling me that they, two tanker planes, were taking Tornado's over to Canada. (One of the tanker planes turns back to the UK after refuelling the Tornado's). I was painting the outside of the Craw's Nest, at that time, and just happened to look up, and see the two VC 10's with the three Tornado's, as they passed, high, over Fife. I'm sure Michael will tell me how it was done and how it felt being so close to another huge plane.
Today's photies: Top - that was going to be a photographs of Elie Kirk, but the arrived while I was getting the camera out of the bag. I thought ... why nor take the bus! That said it's not the bonniest bus I have seen! Middle - looking East on the High Street from the shops... and Bottom - looking West.
