Wet and windy ....

Image
22nd January 2026 (Thursday)     09.00 .... We have a wild, wet and windy morning;  and it to be ' wet and windy' all day.   It's a day for this boy staying 'in and warm'.    I have housework to catch up with, and work to do on the computer.     I might have a run up to Chapel Green in the car at some point, but only if the weather moderates a bit.   And I don't think that is going to happen today. 13.15    It has been windy and wet most of the morning!..... but the rain stopped about an hour ago and I had a short walk up to the golf course.    I didn't expect to see anyone on the course but;  then I remembered that it never rains on the golf course.   Golfers were on the second green. As you can see by the flag, although it wasn't raining, (if it had been I wouldn't have been up there) it was windy! I'm going back to watch the News;  there's a lot going on today.   But I'...

21st January 2026 (Wednesday) 10.30 .... the sky is overcast and, though we had a couple of blinks of the sun not long ago, light rain with fresh winds off the SE is forecast for KY9.   At the moment it's grey but isn't raining.    We could be lucky and have more sunny spells!  We have the Colinsburgh Friendship Lunch today;  it's a perfect day for going out and meeting people.     I'll have morning coffee after this update then change:  I'm still in my loungers.   Myra is picking me up at 12.30. 11.45   This is a big day for Greenland, Denmark, Europe and NATO.   President Trump sees Greenland as another piece of Real Estate on which he'd create a golf course.    Not that he would do that on Green land;  but the principle is the same.   It will be interesting to see what happens at Davos. 17.00     The Colinsburgh Friendship lunch was really enjoyable;  excellen...

20th January 2026 (Tuesday)    09.45 .... There's been some overnight rain, but that had moved Misty morning. away,  the sky breaking up to give us sunny spells.   I have a washing going through;  it's a reasonable 'drying day' but light rain is forecast to move in later in the afternoon.    I have to go to the Skeith Centre sometime today, so might drop in to The Store for a wee browse.  19.38     I went to Anstruther (Skeith Centre);  and 'The Store' int eh morning.   That took longer than intended because I had a good browse in 'The Store'.     It was busy;  with elderly people out in force.   Progress round the aisles was reasonably steady:  I had to wait a couple o times while someone made up their mind which was the 'best buy', but I wasn't in a hurry.   I never see anyone in'The Store' that I know;  apart from the checkout lassies. I came home by way of Kel...

19th January 2026 (Monday)     09.00 ..... It's a lovely morning, sunny with a touch of frost:  there's rime on the car windscreen.    The rime will shift quickly once the sun gets going.   There's only a light breeze so hardy any windchill;  this could be a bonnie albeit cool day.    There is a chance of mist later in the afternoon.    Myra is going to visit George (Leven Beach Care Home) and I was thinking of going with her;  but I have a cough so won't go this time.   Can't take a cough into a Care Home.   13.15    I had a short walk up to the golf course, on what is now a lovely sunny day.   It's 5.7C in the shade so pleasantly warm in the sunshine.    Bob came round for a chat a wee while ago;  and is now off to organise Ann's lunch.    That reminds me;   I'm hungry.    15.30    The Snooker Final was disappointing;...

18th January 2026 (Sunday)      09.00 .... It's not the bonniest of mornings, and the forecast is "light rain and light winds" arriving in the afternoon .... and to be with us most of the day.    A 'dreich' afternoon ahead!   I'm going to visit Alice;  it's a good day for chatting.   Do we need to go shopping?    It's shopping weather!    I'll have another cuppa.     It's the Final of the snooker today; John Higgins  v Kyren Wilson:  that should mean a relaxing afternoon/ evening.   John Higgins is Scottish!.... and Kyren Wilson is English! .... and both playing brilliant snooker.    19.30    It has been a day of two halves with the weather;  a  dry and sometimes bright morning followed by a wet and   miserable afternoon. I enjoyed my trip to Methil to see Alice, and catch up with all the Methil news.   Apparently there was "nothing ...

17th January 2026 (Saturday)     09.45 .... Although overcast and wet just now it should be drier and even brighter in the afternoon.    At the moment it's just wet and bleak;  not a morning for  pottering about outside.   I'll go out to have a look the thermometer, but that will be as far as I'll go in this weather.  This is going to be a computer and 'ousework day. 16.00    My word;   I did  more 'ousework than intended;  but I'm happy enough with that because the weather up till midday was a bit drab.    We had patches of blue sky, and even sunny spells later in the afternoon, so I had a run out in the car.   Only as far as Colinsburgh then home by Kinneuchar. 20.00    I see the POTUS is flexing his tariff muscles again, trying to get his own way (as all bullies do) with Greenland.    I hope PM  Starmer realises just what kind of person, the man he calls his '...

16th January 2026 (Friday)     09.30 .... There's touch of frost this morning:  the thermometer Low, last night,. was -1.2C;  it's now reading 0.1C .... so just above freezing!   But it's a nice, albeit cool, morning;  however there is the chance of light showers.    Luckily there's only a light breeze, so very little wind chill.   I'm going to charge 'The Buggy' battery today;  in fact I'll set that up immediately after this update.    17.00    I've been a 'busy boy' today!    The |Buggy battery is fully charged;   so, the next time I am out on it, I'm going to have a longer potter around the villages.    I'll need a good weather forecast to do that.   Charging the battery didn't involve much in the way of 'work';   only plugging it in and unplugging it when it's finished ..... that's 5 hours later. Maggie used to put the belt in the 'Hoover' (vacuum cl...

15th January 2026 (Thursday)     09.45 .... I's a gorgeous morning;  my washing is on the line, and I am about to have another cuppa before going to Methil.    I've been watching the astronauts coming home from the Space Station;  it's amazing what we humans can do when we're not fechtin' we' each other!   Of to make that cuppa. 19.00    It has been bonnie sunny day;  and an excellent 'drying day!    enjoyed my visit to Methil to annoy Alice;   we had a really relaxing few hours just chatting, having cuppas ..... and lunch.     On the way home I went into the garage to have the windscreen washers topped up;  did a bit more chatting and eventually arrived home about 14.00.   I was ready for another cuppa and a siesta by this time. When I woke up, I watched the snooker;  and brought in and ironed the washing.    Funny thing is that I am really tired tonight... and ...

14th January 2026 (Wednesday)     09.15 ..... we have a mostly cloudy sky this morning, and, though dry, with the chance of sunny spells,  drizzle is forecast for the afternoon.   However, there is a reasonable breeze, so I have hung out a washing;  I don't expect it to dry, but would like it to be dry enough before the drizzle arrives, to iron and hang in front of a radiator.     Tomorrow is a better forecast for hanging out a washing. 18.40    I have enjoyed myself today.   I went 'roond The Ferry' in 'The Buggy.... the first time this year, and the first time in 4 weeks.   It's really relaxing and I can stop to take photies on the way round:  having first checked the mirrors to see if it's safe to stop.   Today's photies were all taken from 'The Buggy'.   It's much more fun than the car;  but open to the elements!    I didn't go as far as Chapel Green because it lo...

13th January 2026 (Tuesday)    10.15 .....  It is not a bonnie morning!    We have a cold, wet, 'dreich'  morning.   I won't be going far;  but must go to Elie in the afternoon to pick up my prescription.   I'll take a few photies then:  but most of the day I'm 'staying in and warm'.    The temperature is 5.1C at present... and it's raining:  the drop in temperature, though not huge, is  disappointing.   Yesterday I  was thinking 'Spring' thoughts;  now I'm thinking 'winter' again.    17.00    This has been a day of two halves:  a dreich morning followed by a sunny, but chilly, afternoon.    I'm going out to check the thermometer;   I'll take a torch with me, to read the thermometer, because it's almost dark.   It's cauld on the lugs out there:  anyway the temperature just now is 4.5C;... the High for today was 5.2C. I went up to...

12th January 2026 (Monday)     09.45 .... It's 'bright and breezy' with a fresh SW wind.   it could Belliston Farm Cottages. be a good drying day, but there's threat of showers in the afternoon..... but, I'm ignoring  the threat of showers, and I have a small washing on the line.    The temperature is at 8.7C just now, so it isn't cold (compared to what it has been lately), but the frisky wind  means there is some wind chill.... but it's drying my washing!  I might go for a short walk after morning coffee' because it's the best morning we've had for a while.     15.30    It has been a lovely, mostly sunny, and warm day;  the thermometer got up to 10.7C in the afternoon.  When looking for a goodie to have with morning coffee, I discovered that I was out of 'Blob's Digestive Biscuits'.    I Instantly went into  'Major Flap On' mode, and decided to take the car for a run to 'The Store' to t...

11th January 2026 (Sunday)     11.00 ..... It'a a grey, wet and breezy, morning;  and is forecast to be wet most of the day.   I've been for a short run, up to Chapel Green, in the car;  and was surprised to see a number of folk out walking;   most walking the dog!    Funnily enough, I  used to enjoy walking in the rain...  as long as it wasn't too windy.    I have the feeling that today might be a research day on the computer;  with the odd bit o' ousework.  It's morrrrrrrning coffee time right now! 16.15    It hasn't been the bonniest of days, as far as the weather went, but the rain did stop for a while around midday. I spent my day watching the snooker and researching in the Alberto Archive.   I had a busy but not 'iggzactly' active day.   However it has been interesting looking back at the 'good old days'.     I'm away to organise something for dinner;...

10th January 2025 (Saturday)     09.45 .... It's a nice morning;  quite a lot of cloud, and light rain with a moderate breeze is the forecast, but just now we have a bonnie start to the weekend.   The light rain might come over in the middle of the day.   I'm going to Kirsty's house (Wadeslea) to show her how to use the wallpaper stripper.   Must 'go';  slight 'Flap On' this morning!    20.00    The mission, to show Kirsty how to use the steam stripper, was successful, and should make the removal of the old wallpaper much easier.   It was great stepping back to the 'good old days' and doing a wee bit of real work.   I didn't do much, but it let Kirsty see how much easier it is with the stripper. The light rain we were expecting has yet to arrive;  but the cold, raw wind that you get before rain moves in has been with us most of the day;  it has freshened a bit and is bitterly cold ou...

9th January 2026 (Friday)     11.00 .... I've been busy this morning;  including waggling my legs about during 'Rise and Shine' (BBC).    That's a positive way to begin the day;   especially a dreich day like we have this morning in Elie and Earlsferry..    We have folk in our villages   (Elie and Earlsferry) that organise different activities for the Community;  Earlsferry is a happy place to live.... aye even for an old sod like me.   My 'positive' activity is taking photographs to 'play' with in the evening.    Strange thing is, even on a wet day like we have today, I get a load of pleasure from the photographs I take;  even the ones taken through a wet windscreen. I had to go up to Elie to and hand in my prescription .... it was raining at the time so I completely forgot about the paper;  I was needing a 'comfort' break!   I blame the weather.   I'm off to have mor...

8th January 2026 (Thursday)     09.45 .... At the moment,  the sun is trying to break through thin cloud; but not having much success.   The temperature (shade) is - 1.9C just now, after a low of -2.2C overnight.    The weather forecast for KY9 (my playground) is "light cloud and light winds",  And it's to be cold.    I hope to go out (in the car) around midday:  Ian hoping that the sun breaks through!   The main 'plan' for the day is to do some 'ousework;  however, I'm feeling sluggish at the moment,  so a mug o' coffee is  the next mission. 12.30   The temperature has gone up to 0.4C so it's above freezing .... but not bu much, and the car windscreen id still frozen.   I doubt if I'll be going out today. .... the pavements (and roads) will be slippery where  they don't get the sun.     I've done some 'ousework (oiled the front and back door locks and hinges) but...

7th January 2026 (Wednesday)     09.15 .... It's grey, damp  start to the morning, but it isn't  actually raining, and it isn't frosty., but it looks like rain isn't far away. The temperature is 3.1C just now.    I'll go to Methil to visit Alice;  and we'll go to Leven to do some shopping.    I've still got a lot of food in the freezer compartment so don't really need much;  other that milk and  bread etc.  I'm feeling 'playful' but I don't think the weather is going to suit my playful mood.   Anyway this, and the next few days are going to be tidying up days,  after the Christmas and New Year break.    17.00    I've had an enjoyable day visiting Alice.   I drove through sleet and rain both going to Methil and coming home.    The journey home was the worst;  it was sleet in Upper Largo but snow atop Largo Law.   We had  a spell of sunshine when in...

Snow ....

Image
6th January 2026 (Tuesday)     09.45 .... Bit of a change this morning;  we've had an inch of snow fall overnight!    I ventured down to Ferry Corner to get a few photographs (I probably shouldn't have, but I took my time and had my stick) for the Archive.    The sky is mostly overcast so we might get another shower;  could be of snow, or sleet.... but best of all rain!   I cancelled travelling to see Alice;  it's not driving weather .... for me anyway.  There is traffic going down Ferry Road but going real canny. It's a 'stay in  and warm' day for me.  And it's cuppa time! 16.30     Thankfully the snow had melted away by early afternoon;  and we now have a breeze that should dry the roads by morning.   Unless we have more rain overnight.     The temperature is 4.8C just now.... and I'm hoping that it stays above freezing all night;  if it does freeze we could ha...

5th January 2026 (Monday)     10.30 .... It's a beautiful, sunny morning, but it's chilly.   I haven't  ventured as far as the thermometer yet, but it felt frosty when I fed 'Blob' this morning.   I cancelled going to see Alice today as she has am  workman coming sometime today, and has to stay in until he has been.   Unfortunately she didn't get a time, so it could be anytime of day.   My 'plan' for today? .....  I'll go for a short run in the car once the air is warmer.   In the meantime I'm going to do the ironing;  after another cuppa to get me intae gear.   And brave enough to  go out and  have a look at the thermometer! 17.00     Well it had been a bonnie, sunny but cold day.   I went to the 'Paper Shop' (in the car) to buy four items and remembered three of them.   I could not think of the fourth;  not until I was back at Ivy.  ...

4th January 2026 (Sunday)     11.45 ..... we have a bonnie sunny day here in Elie ans Earlsferry;  Balcarres House but it is cold, with a light Northerly breeze.   It was 1.3C on the thermometer 20 minutes ago, when I was hanging out a  small washing.   I don'e expect the washing to dry completely;  as long as it doesn't freeze it should dry a wee bit. I've been reasonably busy, having done an ironing;  the next thing will be a cuppa then think about a 'lite bite' lunch.    I might venture out in the car in the afternoon. 20.00   It has been a lovely sunny day, but also a cold one.   Surprisingly, the washing I hung out almost dried;  I thought it might have frozen.   Anyway it's in and drying in front of a radiator. With there being a cold wind I went for a run, up to Balcarres, in the car.   Everything, vegetation and wildlife, is resting at this time of year;  before th...

3rd January 2026 (Saturday)     09.45 ..... The thermometer is reading 0.2C at present, after being down at -5.4C overnight.   I'm going out to check that 'low' reading again;  I know it was cold overnight but that does seem awfie low!   I'll put the kettle 'on' when I'm at that end o' the hoose!    I'm back! ..... it 's cauld oot by the way.... and the thermometer overnight low was -5.4C.   The sun is up so the temperature should start to creep up a bit  , but it's always going to be cold today, especially in the moderate NW wind.   I won't be going up to the seat at the 17th until the afternoon! The International News this morning is almost unbelievable;  the USA attacking Venezuela, and according to President Trump capturing the Venezuelan President and his wife.  I'm off to make a cuppa! 15.00    The walk up to the seat at the 17th had been cancelled;  its too cold in the frisky wind...

2nd January 2026 (Friday)    10.00 .... It's a lovely morning, but definitely chilly!    It was - 2.8C when I looked at the thermometer half an hour ago ;  and it had been down to - 3.9C overnight so it's a wrap up well day.     I've had a grand 'Walk with the Weatherman'  round part of Pembrokeshire  (Wales).  'The Weatherman',  Derek Brockway a Welshman, was accompanied by a local Guide. so it was educational as well as healthy exercise;  be my 'exercise' for today.   I think it was the last, of what has been a brilliant Series..."Weatherman Walking". 21.30     It was reasonably warm in the sun in the middle of the afternoon,  so I had a wander up to the seat at the 17th green.   There was a lot of people out walking at that time;  and I met George Dunsire, from Colinsburgh, whom I haven' see n for a long time.   He is well, but like me is starting to slow down....

Nice morning ....

1st January 2026 (Thursday)     I'll begin by Wishing all my readers a "Happy and Healthy Year 2026". 11.00   We seemed to have a quiet Hogmanay in Earlsferry;  at least it was from where I was, (in my bed First ferry HS sunset of 2026 reading a book).  I heard four 'bangs' at midnight' and that was it.   And I didn't hear anyone going down Ferry Road.   That said, I didn't have my hearing aids in, so it might have been noisier.    I went to bed at 23.30 after watching "Auld Lang Syne" - how it took over the World'.   That was a really interesting programme; with Dougie Vipond travelling round the World to find out why 'Auld Lang Syne' is so popular.   I thought the Japaneses Lassies Choir were outstanding;  the worst version? (by a long way) was 'The Lord's Prayer', sung to the tune of Auld Lang Syne, by Cliff Richard. We have a quiet morning;  there;s a layer of  thin cloud just now, bu...
