Lovely, frosty morning .....
28th November 2024 (Thursday) 09.15 .... It's one of those bright frosty mornings that makes
'The Paddocks' housing estate - Colinsburgh. |
me want to go for a long walk; I can't do that but I might go to the beach later. This weather change has brought on another migraine, now I have to wait for the pills to kick in before doing anything exciting. And, I have a cold coming on.
We have work vans on Ferry Road this morning, and I hear things going on up by the sub station. This will mean a change of direction for my walk. In the meantime I will do a wee bit of photo browsing, before morrrrrrrrrning coffee.
21.30 I have finally settled on the 13 photographs I need; that was after I'd found a batch of Balcarres Folders with umpteen photos of all my quiet places around the estate. One of the folders had 237 photographs of the walk from Robin Gray's cottage all the way up to Lathallan, by way of the Victorian paths that went all the way up the den. Not the Den road; there was a path up the West side of the Den Burn all the way up to Lathallan. When I did it in 2015 parts of the path could still be seen but a lot of it was overgrown with Rhododendrons. So what did I do? Yep... I crawled under the rhododendrons where necessary, (and took photographs) and walked, and crawled, all the way to the Lathallan bridge, on the path. That path, and all the others in Balcarres Den, were clear 70 years ago. I then walked back to the car, by way of the Lathallan and Double dykes road. 'Happy days' indeed. Nowadays you can do only the Den by way of the old road that follows the burn, up past the former sawmill as far the Deil's Lodge.
22.30 The car still had frost on the windscreen at midday, so, instead of going to the beach I went for a run, up to Kinneuchar, in the car. It was a nice enough day but there was a rawness in the air; like there was rain coming in. I took a few photographs then scuttled back home to a warm.Balcarres House.
"Big Flap On" tomorrow morning: Iain is coming down, and arriving round about midday. This means putting the photograph mission 'on hold' for a couple of days; and making the bed up!
