Light cloud ....
4th November 2024 (Monday) 08.30 .... Ferry Road has been quiet this morning; the noisiest
thing, so far, being the 'bucket cairt' at 07.31. A cloudy sky with a gentle breeze, is not the most inspiring start to the day's weather, but that's what we have..... and its to be with the thus all day. But it's dry and warm for this time of year.... and, you never know with our weather, we might get a few sunny spells later. It's not a very good drying day!15.00 I hung shower towels and sundry washing out this morning, but with the kind of weather we have there's not much chance of it drying. The brighter weather I'd hoped for never materialized.
After morrrrrrrning coffee, I had a short walk up to the golf course, but it's not the kind of day for me going far, so I took a few photographs of Ferry Road and golfers on the course.
The new Ferry Road electricity sub station is nearly finished. It looks like all they have to do is fill the 'hole' inside the sub station, and that's it. (You can see what's to be done in the photograph). As I suspected I might be, I'm suffering a little bit from the exertions required to stuff a downie intae it's cover. That means this has been a 'drawing' day; I want to finish my Christmas cards, and get printed. Must 'go' .... slight 'Flap On' now. I need an afternoon coffee!
Ferry Road has been awfie quiet today: I was expecting some action at 'No 3', The Courtyard. That's where the action shots will be coming from for the next few months.
20.00 The drawing is coming along ... slowly, but this kind of weather is supposed to be with us for another two 'drawing' days; it's to be sunny on Thursday! This dour weather is not the most inspirational.
This afternoon I googled Episkopi Cantonment (Cyprus) to see how it has changed. One of the most noticeable things is the number of car parks. Where our office was is now a car part attached to the Main Signals place. Our office (SMC) became redundant with the arrival of computers. The 'barrack' block is still there... with a car park behind it. And the Sailing Club has a pier and small harbour. GHQ MELF was a good posting 60 years ago; and will be a good posting today. There is a big increase in the number of houses and shops etc. I enjoyed my National Service days; Aldershot, GHQ MELF..... and the week on the Empire Fowey travelling to Cyprus! Happy days!
