Broken cloud with showers ....
1st September 2025 (Monday) 07.00 .... It's mostly cloudy just now, with light rain in fact; but
the sky is beginning to break up from the SW, so we will have sunny spells and light showers later.
My friend Ian (Johnston) is over on holiday (from Australia) and will be staying in Elie and Earlsferry for a few days. Ian's family moved to Earlsferry (from Edinburgh) during the war years, and he has amazing memories of the villages, and the Polish soldiers who were based here at the time. Ian was here last year and touring the North of Scotland, and spent a few days in the village. Hey.... I'd better move the car before the workmen come to sort out the electricity supply.
10.30 I've been to the Chemist to pick up my prescription, and the car is now 'moored up' on Links Road. The traffic Management bloke has turned up with a set of temporary traffic lights to bright up Ferry Road; he is waiting for the Electricity workmen to turn up, to find out what 'the Master Plan' is. He wants the skip removed: but I think he may be working off the original 'map', that had Ferry Road down for loads o' work. Which doesn't appear to be the case on the new 'map'. Interesting place Ferry Road today. I'm looking forward to the 22nd September! .... the Autumn equinox. And the job will be done by then.
18.45 There has been very little activity on Ferry Road today. A couple of work vans appeared, one with a min digger on a trailer; a think they will have taken that to 'Cross Wynd'. The temporary traffic lights were never set up, so all is as it was on Ferry Road. Except my car which is moored up down at St Margaret's.
Ian arrived about 11.30 so we had a catch up chat. Ian is one of the most amazing men I have ever met. I thought he'd flown into Heathrow, then on to Edinburgh Airport. He didn't do that this time; he hired his car from Heathrow and drove up to Edinburgh.... where he stayed for a couple of days to visit old haunts. Ian has done all that driving; and I think the roads are busy in the East Neuk! Iain is 90 years old; his brother Les is 95. Anyway we caught up with each other's 'News'; had a'lite bite' lunch , and another chat, before Ian went to the flat he is renting for the next few of days. Ian leaves Elie and Earlsferry on Thursday morning.
21.30 I've had, and enjoyed, a busy day. Ian and I are going to have an early start, to another busy
day tomorrow: Ian mentioned doing the East Neuk harbours. I'm going to put a washing through the machine just now, ready to hang out first thing. Sunny intervals with a moderate breeze is forecast with a chance of showers later in the afternoon. Ferry Wynd.
I'm goin to make the Horlicks and have an early night in bed, so that I can keep up with Ian tomorrow.
