Overcast and damp ....

22nd July 2025 (Tuesday)     08.15 .... It's a damp morning, with light rain forecast;  but it's warm, and Elie and Earlsferry is bonnie no matter what kind of weather we have.   And the sky might well brighten up,  to give us sunny spells.    I must have been tired last night.   It's a while since I had an unbroken night's sleep;  I went to bed just before 23.00, and didn't wake up until 05.45.   11.30     It's a lovely day now;  warm and sunny, with a nice Westerly breeze to dry the washing I have on the line.   If the weather stays as it is I should get the last of the bedding washed (and out) in the afternoon.   I'm a happy boy!   Being busy I haven't had time to 'go out to play' but I might get the bike out after morning coffee;  but won't be going far because I'm keeping an eye on the weather.

Overcast and misty .....

21st July 2025 (Monday)     07.15 .... After overnight rain, we now have a heavy mist with drizzle blowing in a light Easterly breeze;  it is not a bonnie start to Monday.   However it is going to improve soon, with the weather forecast being .... (stupid 22 second delay) .... "light rain showers with a gentle breeze (E)".  We should have sunny spells between the showers;   and interesting clouds because thunder is possible in the afternoon. 13.30    I took time out from the 'ooverin' and dustin' to go 'roond the Ferry'  on the scooter this morning;  there's a chance o' thundery showers in the afternoon, which is when I'd intended going.   Anyway I enjoyed going round the Ferry, at walking speed, in comfort.   Sometimes I set her (she needs a name) going at (slow) jogging speed.   It's well sprung, and can cope with uneven road surfaces (of which we have many) 'nae bother'.   It was...

Dreich start to the morning ....

20th July 2025 (Sunday)     08.00 .... It's a wet morning with low cloud coming in from the North Sea;  however the weather forecast is "light rain showers with a gentle breeze", so we should have sunny spells between the light showers!   At present we have drizzle;  to be honest it's a dreich old start to Sunday.    Strangely enough I feel like 'working' today, so that might make up for the lack of 'feeling like working yesterday'!    My ailments are all in the right places, and I actually feel reasonably frisky. 11.30     I've sorted the beds, which was my target for today;  that and some hooverin' and dustin'.     The "H & D" will be done after morning coffee, which I am having as I do this update. The weather is still 'damp'and mauchless', but it is supposed the brighten up after midday;  that's in 33 minutes!   (It's 11.27 on the computer clock).   I'd hoped to do...

Cloudy with showers ....

Image
19th July 2025 (Saturday)     08.15 .... There's a good chance of interesting shower clouds today;  thundery showers are forecast from midday onwards.    Just now it's warm and humid, with sunny spells and occasional light showers.... a nice enough morning for the beach.  High tide is at 09.34 so there will be a big beach in the afternoon.   Right now we have a peaceful kind of morning with only a light Easterly breeze;   hopefully the showers will be 'few and far between'. 12.30    I went to Elie (in the car) to the Chemist;  the 'Paper Shop' was busy so I didn't bother with a paper and went to The Toft and the Harbour.   The High Street was busy with traffic....  Andrew and Gareth were setting up the 'book stall' at the kirk gates.   I decided to go to the harbour then visit the bookstall on the way home.    Unfortunately the High Street was chaotic by then so I came home by way o...

Lovely, fresh morning ....

18th July 2025 (Friday)     08.00 .... There's a nice fresh feel to the breeze (SSE) this morning, after the light rain we had overnight.   We could have light rain showers in the morning, but I'm hanging out a washing anyway.  It's going to be sunny and warm (probably hot) in the afternoon.    There could be interesting 'shower' clouds  around this weekend.   17.30   My word.... it has been hot this afternoon.   Outside : 27.1C on the patio;  and  Inside : 21.5C   normally a cool 19C.   Definitely uncomfortable hot for this 'mature' boy. 22.00   It's still hot outside (18.9C)...  Ivy Cottage living room is at 21.5, which is hotter than I have it set at in the winter.   It'd definitely holiday weather!    Apart from going shopping with Alice, and driving to and from Methil, I haven't done very much else.  I watched bits of  Stage 13 of le...

17th July 2025 (Thursday)     06.45.... We have a lovely, sunny and peaceful start to the day;  there's only a light Easterly breeze, and I'm feeling 'almost bright eyed and bushy tailed'.   I'm going to get the bike out and go for a turn to the harbour.   There's a slight chill in the early morning air, but the sun is starting to make it's presence felt;  it will hot by midday.    11.45   All was quiet at the harbour.  Apart from  couple of dog walkers,  a lady out for her morning exercise,  and  Tom out at his creels.... it was a very  quiet morning.  The breeze was fresher than expected so the bay wasn't as smooth as I'd hoped.   However I am happy with the photies I have to 'play' with tonight. 12.00    That's me in for the afternoon;  it's 22.6C already, therefore too hot for this 'mature' person to be outside.   It's a beautiful day for being on h...

16th July 2025 (Wednesday)    09.00 .... Although it's damp with light rain showers just now, they are to move away to leave us with "Sunny intervals and a moderate Easterly breeze".    Having overslept this morning, I am runni ...er ... creeping behind schedule.   Actually I have caught a 'summer cold', so I'll lie low for the next couple of days.   I have 'ousework to do so that will  keep me occupied .... between catnaps.   (Maybe that should be the other way round;  catnaps between spells of 'ousework).   In other words 'pottering' for the next couple of days. 19.45    We have a gorgeous, sunny and warm, evening;  in fact it has been a nice,  mostly sunny day, but it was cloudier then than it is now.   However, mist is forecast to move in overnight. I've had a reasonably busy day, pottering around doing 'ousework;  and I'm feeling much better than I was in the morning, having ha...

Nice morning....

15th July 2025 (Tuesday)    08.00 .... After a bright ,sunny start to the morning, clouds are starting to lumber in from the ESE.   "Light rain with a moderate breeze" is forecast for the middle part of the day,  clearing to sunny spells in the late afternoon and evening.   There's a nice fresh feeling  to the air;  cooler  than it has been lately, but not cold.   A pleasant start to the day.    11.45 .... I went to Elie to take a few photos of the Toft, and the harbour at low tide to give me something to 'play' with if rain does come our way.   We had a few spits and spots at 11.00 but that was just the edge of a heavy shower cloud, and didn't come to anything.    Anyway... where was I?    Ah ... taking photographs from the Toft and harbour! I couldn't believe it when I saw the two boys on their bikes.   In asked the two ladies accompanying them, if it was OK to take a photo,...

Nice morning ....

14th July 2025 (Monday)    08.20   It's a lovely morning;  there's a fresh, breeze from the SE, with a lot of clouds around.    'Light rain showers and a fresh SE breeze' is the forecast ... and there's a "good chance" of showers in the afternoon.    It could be a good 'drying morning', if the showers miss us.   Going by the forecast the afternoon looks like being showery.... so I'll hang out the washing that's in the machine ASAP.  The breeze is warm;  a good drying wind. 10.00    The washing is out but I expect it might get another rinse shortly;  rain isn't far away by the look of the Western sky.   There is the chance of thundery showers;  I'll keep an eye on the weather.   It looks like it's raining at Lochgelly;  going by the weather cam.   There is a thundery feel to the air so I have the feeling the much needed rain, might be of the 'heavy' variety.  ...

Lovely morning ....

13th July 2025 (Sunday)     08.30 .... Oops.... I've finally remembered to update The Hutte!   Sorry about that.  I was slightly excited by the reflection photographs this morning! 11.30   The papers weren't in when I was up at the 'paper shop';  so I  went to the harbour.   It was absolutely gorgeous (as Elie and Earlsferry always is).... so I enjoyed myself with the camera.    So much so that I forgot to go back to the 'paper shop';  I came home by way of Balbuthie and Kinneuchar.  Since then I have done some gardening (pruning), sorted out the morning's photographs;  and finally got round to updating The Hutte.   It's warm .... 21.2C (shade) already so it will be hot in the afternoon.   Far too hot for me being outside.   I might 'potter' out occasionally, and do more pruning.    14.45  I thought I'd be brave and do some more pruning;  buy my word......

Wall to wall blue sky .....

12th July 2025 (Saturday)     07.50 .... It's beautiful, sunny and warm (15C already) morrrrrrrrrrrning.... with a light Easterly breeze.   The breeze will freshen to a nice cooling air in the afternoon.   The villages could be overwhelmed with sun worshipper making for the beach  and water sports.   It's definitely a sun cream day for those that are out in the sun.   And .... it's also a brilliant 'drying day'. 19.00   It has been a (mostly) warm and sunny day;  I say 'mostly' because the haze mentioned in the weather forecast did turn out to be haar..... low cloud off the sea, and a chilly air and damp air (not good beach weather) driven in on a moderate Easterly wind.   Tomorrow's weather is going tom be sunny with a moderate (ENE) wind so it could be cool on the beach. My trip to Leven, and Methil to see Alice was an outstanding success but ... and  I know I go on about the number of vehicles ...

Sunny and warm ....

Image
11th July 2025 (Friday)    09.00 .... It's beautiful morning;  sunny and warm with only a light breeze:  the villages will be busy, especially the beach, and the golf course.   I haven't been anywhere, but might have a wander down to Nana's Seat in a wee while, for some exercise.  It's 17.7C  just now, so the afternoon will be hot.   I'm at the Skeith Centre in the afternoon;  it will be a 'there and back' mission, no run to Crail, or anything like that, in the heat. 11.30    I've been down to the beach, but my word, it's hot;  23.4C at present.   It's perfect day for holiday makers, and day trippers enjoying the beach .... and the water.   The hardest thing might be finding somewhere to 'moor the car'. The beach was fairly busy when I was down there (early morning).   My first stop was The Blue Tits seat! It was already too hot for me, even with a bottle of water, so I  wandered al...

10th July 2025 (Thursday)    08.45 .... at the moment we have some cloud, but "sunny, with a moderate breeze (W)" is our weather forecast, so it's going to be sunny and warm/hot;  with High UV, and pollen counts and low pollution level (actually the pollution level depends on the amount of traffic). I have to go to the Skeith Centre (Anstruther) at some point today, so might have a run to Crail, then home by the 'back roads'.  18.30    It has been a lovely sunny (and warm) day;  and I was busy in the morning.   I went to the Skeith Centre, and 'The Store' as per plan.   The run to Crail had to be cancelled.   Why? ..... because I'd forgotten to bring the bag with the camera, and mobile phone etc. in it.   So it was a shorter mission, than I'd been looking forward to.   And I found out that I have to go to the Skeith Centre tomorrow; to have my catheter changed.   Had I checked the calendar I'...

9th July 2025 (Wednesday)     08.30 .... it's a lovely sunny morning;  more like summer time!   Iain has been spraying the wasps nest  (Tree Wasps) with Rentokil spray;  the wasps are few in number now.   I'll give them another spray tomorrow.   I'm not keen on killing hard working insects but wasps can be a pain (literally) in the Autumn.   So they must go.  I always remember a wasp in New Zealand when I do this!     'M' had a big underground nest in the garden and they were starting to annoy us.   We went to the garage and got half a bottle of petrol.   Then... Last thing at night you (take the cork off the bottle) push the upturned bottle into the nest entrance then seal it with earth.   Just as I was about to shove the bottle into the nest entrance, the single wasp that think about, went into the nest.   It would have died anyway, because the petrol fumes...

8th July 2025 (Tuesday)     08.45 .... After that rain thundery rain yesterday (thunder at Methil) we have a sunny morning, with a fresh feel to the air;  it felt quite autumnal when I first went out at 07.00).   According to Carole we are going to have a spell of warm and dry dry weather.... so forget the early morning autumnal air....  summer is coming .   unfortunately for me... my morning began with a migraine;  another sign that summer is coming.     16.00   Iain arrived about 14.30 .... and  we've had a cuppa and blether.   Iain is now going for a walk to the cliffs, to see if the Scotch Argus butterfly is 'in residence'.    Before setting off for the cliffs we made an online payment to HMRC.  A small amount of money that I 'owed' them.   Surprisingly, I've been a busy 'boy' today in spite of the migraine.   I went up to Colinsburgh to deliver a 'Sym...

7th July 2025 (Monday)    08.30 .... I got up early this morning, to go 'roond The Ferry' on the Mobility Scooter (it needs a 'name');  the sun had just broken through the clouds at that time (06.45), but the roads were quiet.  It was quite chilly.   Going round 'The Royal Burgh' is easy;  but I'm not quite ready to tackle Elie yet. 19.00   The air has been mauchless for most of the day;  however a heavy shower o' rain about an hour ago cleared the air and we have a nice, fresh, evening.   I went to Methil because Alice and I both needed to go shopping;  not for food this time, though Alice did buy a couple of  Sainsbury's cheese rolls to convert into a toastie for lunch.   We both go everything we went for;  and enjoyed the 'Alice Toastie' lunch.... followed by Alice's home made fruit cake and a cuppa.   20.30   Tomorrow would appear to be the start of spell of warm, dry weather;...

Light rain ....

6th July 2025   (Sunday)    08.30 .... It's a quiet morning, but damp with 'light rain and a light breeze'.    Just now the  breeze is from the West ,but it's going to wander about and come from various directions throughout the day.   I've been for the paper(s), and took one photograph before the light rain came over.  Thankfully the rain started at 08.15 and is now gently watering the flooer tubs.  The sky should break up later to give us 'sunny spells'.... with the light rain now and again.     It's a nice day for watching le Tour de France.   (It started yesterday).   I'm a happy boy. 14.30    We've had a fair amount of light rain up to now, but the sky has brightened up and we could be in for some sunny spells with light rain showers.   The weather in France at 'le Tour' has been much like ours except they had heavier rain.    They've biked out of that onto dry roads;...

Bright and breezy morning ....

5th July 2025 (Saturday)      "Happy Heavenly birthday" to Maggie, who would have been 84  today xx..   (This might be an  'ooverin' and dustin' day).   The 'plan' is to have morning coffee up at Chapel Green, if the weather amenable. 08.00 ....It's a bright and breezy morning with the chance of light showers in the afternoon.   It's a good drying day so I have a washing in the machine.   I've been out and it actually feels chilly exposed to the brisk SW breeze.   "Strong winds with light cloud" is forecast for KY9. 09.00    The washing is on the line, and should dry fairly rapidly in this frolicsome wind, but some of the clouds look like they could produce light showers.   'We' don't want 'light showers.   In fact we don't want any showers! 19.30    It has been a nice day albeit breezy.   Although breezy the air warmed up later in the morning and it was pl...

4th July 2025 (Friday)     "Happy 249th birthday celebrations" to all my friends in the USA on Independence Day.    Apart from Independence;  from where I'm sitting it doesn't look like you have very much to celebrate just now, but things will get better. 08.00   This morrrrrrrrning we have an overcast sky, with light drizzle now and again;  in fact the weather forecast is "strong winds (SW) with drizzle".    The strongest winds will be in the afternoon, and it will feel cool.   At the moment the drizzle is very light and intermittent.    A much better forecast  than the original original one was.   I'm a Happy 'boy'. I'm going to Methil to visit Alice, who needs annoying, (I'm good at that) and we'll probably do some shopping.    At the moment it's cuppa time. 20.15    It has been a grey old day but, thankfully, we only had a few spits and spots o' rain now and again.  ...

Quiet, sunny morning ....

3rd July 2025 (Thursday)    08.00 .... We have  a lovely, sunny start to 'day', but the sky is to cloud I wasn't the only that thought it was cold! over, with 'thundery showers' forecast for the afternoon.   I need my daily fix of photographs to play with in the evening, so better go out with the camera after breakfast.   It's a quiet morning just now but the breeze is to freshen by lunch time.   'Must go go go'... slight flap on;  got to have another cuppa.... then a few photographs to take. 11.00    I thought about going up to Chapel Green on the bike but the wind has freshened and its cold;  so I went for a run in the car, and did the Balbuthie run, including the harbour.   I have the feeling that the traffic problems at the harbour are going to be bad this year.   Anyway I got a few photies tae play wi' in the evening.   I phoned Alice to see is she fancied going to the Wellesley Ki...
