Wet and dreich .....
5th
August 2016 (Friday)
.... 08.30 Yippee .... it’s
raining! Oh no we’re driving up to
Auchnagatt today, and don’t want rain!
The “Yippee” is
therefore cancelled!
It is a very miserable and dreich
morning but it might clear up as we travel North. The Cairn o’ Mount will have to wait until
we’re on the way down . I think I’ve
got everything... laptop and camera’s.... oh and a few bits o’ claes. Jings I nearly forgot .... and ‘M’!

Orf
to have a cuppa .... the next update will be from Auchnagatt!
20.30 The
rain we had at the start of our journey up to Iain’s and Jackie’s, petered out
by the time we got to Dundee: from
Dundee northwards we even had sunshine at times. Both ‘M’ and I were well ready for
breakfast at ‘Peggy Scott’s’ Cafe, where we enjoyed a ‘Full English’ , with two
pots of tea .... and toast. We were
not hungry when we came out of the Cafe.... and, having decided to go over the ‘Cairn
o’ Mount’ we set off, up the A90, until we got to the Edzell junction. It was just after we left ‘Peggy Scott’s
that the following conversation took place:
Me ... “You’ll never
believe
what’s going to pass us now M!” ..... ‘M’ answers ... “a bike ?” Sooper Buggy was not amused. It was a camper van!

On
the way to the Cairn we passed Balbegno, my place of birth; the house I was born in no longer exists
having been replaced about 15 years ago:
however I was in ‘full flow’ by now and ’M’ got the whole history of the
‘Lawrie Family, for the remainder of the journey.
One
of our stops was at the old bridge at the bottom of the North side of the Cairn
o’ Mount, where we took photos of the ruined house that stands adjacent to the
bridge. My mother knew the family who
lived in that house in the 1930’s but I can’t remember their family name.
Our
next stop was at Inverurie Garden Centre for coffee and a goodie, before
starting
the last leg of our journey;
arriving at ‘Backhill of Inkhorn’ (Auchnagatt) Iain and Jackie’s ‘Residential
HQ’ at 15.45... having travelled 133 miles since leaving Ivy at 09.20. By this time we were in bright sunshine...
a complete change to the weather when we left Fife.

It
is one tired boy that is typing the Hutte tonight; I shall be well glad to crawl in bed with my
book!
