Autumnal air ....
9th August 2016 (Tuesday) .... 09.30 There’s real touch of autumn in the
Auchnagatt air this morning....I guess, with the northwest wind, ‘bracing’ would
be the best way to describe
it. The Master Plan’ is to go down to Aberdeen later
in the day .... by that time the sun will be higher in the sky, and it should
be warmer... and hopefully we will miss any showers that could be around; because we do have threatening clouds
poodling their way over now and again.
20.00 We had a great time in an old part of
Aberdeen .... “Fittie” (Footdee), a former fishing village. The ‘village’ was purpose built in 1809 –
10, to house a fishing community being displaced by improvements to the
harbour. The original houses were
single storey, with thatched roofs , ...then two storey houses were added in
the 1860’s. The communal grassy bits,
in between the rows of houses
were gradually filled in with huts and sheds
needed by fishermen. Those wooden sheds have gradually been
replaced by modern buildings, built with different materials,.... though
most are constructed with brick. As far as I could see there is only one
old tarred shed on the site now. I
imagine most of the houses will have been ‘sold on’ to non- fishing families,
but, that said it is nice to walk round the ‘village’ and dream.

We
priced a fish supper in the “Silver Darlings” Restaurant .... it was expensive
+ 10% surcharge. We did not eat
there.... instead choosing to go to Tesco’s, where ‘M’ would be able to buy a ‘memory
stick’ to store her photos on.... she was
emptying her camera for the first time in
three years..... and reasonably priced food!

It
is a lovely evening here .... the wind has died away, with bright
sunshine; almost an evening for going
out walking. I hope that this means
we’ll have a bonnie day tomorrow. We
are going to Inverurie to meet Helen and Ethel, two of my cousins, whom I haven’t
seen for a long time. I look forward
to this. We could chat for a good
while over a cuppa; there’s a lot to
catch up with.
