On the beach for dawn breaking ..... ...

Image
16th December 2016 (Friday) .... 13.00     ‘The Boy’ (that’s me) has had  a really enjoyable, and full morning.    I was down on the beach by 07.15 to photograph Dawn beginning to break over Elie. the ‘false dawn’ light .... sunrise was at 08.41 .... unfortunately it. the false dawn light, didn’t happen this morning.    However I did get a few photo’s of  the real dawn breaking;   right through until the sun peeped over the Lammermuir hills.    It was brilliant down on the beach at dawn time:    there was enough light to see all around, but not the ‘white’ light that comes with the ‘false dawn’.    However, the haunting sound of two curlews ‘conversing’, and an occasional Redshank piping up....more than made up for that.   When I looked at the mornings set of Elie and Earlsferry, ‘dawn to sunrise’ photos ... I Half an hour before sunrise. was much...

Overcast but dry ... and not too cold

15th December 2016 (Thursday) .... 10.30    This is a nice morning for a walk;   it’s bright with sunny spells, and not too windy .... though the wind we do Fifty minutes before sunrise. have is from the Southeast.    I’ve been down on the beach, and with it being low tide, and a ‘spring’ tide, I’ve been out to the end of the ‘sewage pipe’, which is no longer a ‘sewage’ pipe but is where the old one was.   Sunrise time is late at this time of year (08.40), and it is ‘strange’:   we have had a  ‘false dawn’ about an hour before the sunrise for the past few mornings, when there is a lot of ‘transient light’ about;   this fades away and is followed by a ‘normal’ but less colourful sunrise.     Today I will be finishing off writing the Christmas cards, and organising my journey to Sussex.    Slight ‘flap on’ ....  cuppa is required.     sunrise ...

Gorgeous morning ....

14th December 2016 (“Friendship Lunch” Day) .... 10.00     Oh my word .... what a lovely morning for pottering about on the beach:  the tide was way out, Sunrise from the Ferry Wynd. and we had a bonnie sunrise.  Regrettably, there is a brisk Southeast wind which is adding a bit to the wind chill factor .... it’s ‘cool’;  but well worth wrapping up and going out.     By the time I reached the beach, there was already a trail of ‘Man Wednesday’ and ‘Dog Wednesday’ footprints, on the sand .... then Sue came along the beach walking her dogs... and this was well before sunrise time.  On mornings lie this I have the urge to go walking, but I have Christmas cards to write .... so ‘flap on’;  got work to do! 21.30    The “Christmas Friendship Lunch” was ‘out of this world’:   there’s no denying it we are blessed with ‘our girls’!     We are used to the girls spoiling us at a ‘n...

East wind... and damp

Image
13th December 2016 (Tuesday)       09.00    We have a cold East wind this morning, bringing cloud, and dampness,  in from the North Sea;  not a ‘pretty’ morning, and not a morning for pottering around on the beach.    Overcast and damp it Dull morning. may be, but I have been down to the beach for a breath of fresh, Elie and Earlsferry, air;  but I didn’t hang about ... East is not my favourite  wind direction.    Back at Ivy I turned the heating up a notch .... and put on the kettle.    I have an appointment with Miss Webber at St Andrews this afternoon... today’s ‘main mission’.    The kettle is bound to have boiled by now;  I’m going to have a cuppa.  21.30    The ‘Troops’, Jim and Jimmy are just away home after our weekly session of churning over the local news;  the most important ‘news’, being that tomorrow is ‘Friendshi...

Peaceful morning ....

Image
12th December 2016 (Monday) ... 10.00    As you can see in the photo we have a bonnie , peaceful, morning here:   wouldn’t it be great if everyone on Mother Twenty minutes before sunrise time. Earth could wake up to peaceful mornings!    Sadly, this is not the case:   human greed, and the human penchant for killing, means that many people waken up to heartbreak and worry,... many don’t waken up at all.        I do much ‘thinking’ when I’m on ‘my’ .. our beach.      We are very, very fortunate to live where we do. 21.30    This has been a good day for ‘working’:  and I don’t doubt that some folk have done that:  someone has been hammering and banging, not that far away from Ivy.... this made me feel quite weak.    I had to find somewhere to relax... so, packing the camera stuff, including the tripod, into the car boot I went down to...

Gorgeous pre sunrise sky ....

Image
11th December 2016 (Sunday) .... 10.00   Iain set off to Edinburgh, (to work), at 07.45;  at which time I noticed that the dawn sky was beginning to be Half an hour before sunrise at Elie. interesting.    I wrapped myself up, grabbed the camera and toddled down to the beach, half an hour before the sun was due to rise (08.36).    It proved to be a rewarding ‘toddle’ as we had a gorgeous “red sky in the morning”, pre – sunrise sky.    By sunrise time, which was at 08.36;  the bright colours had been ‘washed out’.    The actual sunrise was hidden by low clouds. 21.30    Adelaide, Jenny, Ivan and went to “The Bank” in Anstruther for lunch:  it’s the first time that I have been in there, and I must say I was totally surprised.     The food was good, as was the company .... and the service.    I’d be happy to go back there again.    In ...

Bright and breezy ....

10th December 2016 (Saturday) .... 09.30     I went down on the beach at sunrise time, but, as is often the case at this time of year, ‘sunrise’ was obscured by Elie Bay. low cloud.    However it looks like being a bright day once the sun gets higher;   actually there’s a braw ‘drying’ wind so I’m going to do a washing.   For some reason I’m feeling ‘slightly sluggish’ this morning:  I’m blaming ‘Wallace and Gromit’ , who ‘fired off’ at 05.40!    They sounded far away,.....  but not far enough away!    I’ll have a cuppa.     Sometime today I’ll have to buy chocolate biscuits:  we’re down to one, dark chocolate, Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer, .... which neither Iain, nor I, like!   When I think of it, there must have been another seven of them at one time  (they come in packs of eight)... so someone must like them!    Probably me .... if ...
