Colinsburgh lunch .....

Image
31st August 2016 (Wednesday) .... 14.30     Oh ... we have had a challenging morning:   it looked like ‘M’ had lost all of her photographs, on a faulty memory stick.    However I eventually managed to get the stick to work enough to be This morning at Elie able to transfer three quarters of the photos to my laptop.    We need to get a new memory stick so that ‘M’ can have those, to look back on the happy times she had in Bonnie Scotland!      Most of the problem was solved before we went up to Colinsburgh for lunch. 23.59     This has been a ‘never had time to stop’ sort of day..... and I shall be glad to get into bed with my book.    When ‘M’ and I got back to Ivy from lunch, we tried to find her flight path from ‘Hong Kong to Auckland;   but couldn’t.     Then we discovered that the flight ‘Hong Kong to Auckland had been changed,...

Windy, overcast but warm morning .....

Image
30th August 2016 (Tuesday) ... 08.00     There’s a fair wind this morning, and it is cloudy as per weather forecast, but it’s dry and warm(ish);   a nice enough morning for being ‘out’.     I don’t think rain is forecast for the east Neuk, though the The official Maori Flag clouds do look heavy enough for the odd shower.    An interesting fact re this date, in 1146:    European leaders outlawed the crossbow with a view to ending wars for all time.     I’d better get a move on .... I’m picking up ‘M’ in an hour and a half! .... and Ivy, though looking ‘nae bad’ , is slightly ‘man cave’ looking!     I’ll take my BP pill! 22.00        We’ve had a busy day;   ‘M’ needed stuff doing in Leven, so we spent about four hours in Leven, this included coffee in Stuart’s, shopping and a ‘lite bite’ lunch in Sainsbury’s, then home t...

"Pole Star" in Elie Bay ....

Image
29th August 2016 (Monday) ...10.00    We have a lovely bright, sunny and ‘fresh’ morning here, definitely a morning for being out.    I’ve been down on the beach, and up at Chapel Green, watching the “Pole Star” checking the Elie Sewage Part of the  Kincraig cliffs at Earlsferry. outfall buoy.    That job done, she has left Elie Bay, and is making for the Isle of May at a speed of 9.3 knots.    How do I know that?    I looked ‘her’ up on AIS.... which is a worldwide ship movement site.       I’m in the mood for cutting something down, and a Buddleia bush comes to the forefront of my mind:   it has blown over and is past flowering, so that will ‘go’.    Must go ‘Slight flap on’, I’ve remembered that I have an appointment at the surgery this afternoon re my BP etc, so I had better do relaxing things:   yep, removing that Buddleia bush would be...

Quiet morning .....

28th August 2016 (Sunday) .... 10.30    We have an overcast, but dry, warm morning;   all we need is for the sun to ‘burn off’ the clouds, which it may well Low cloud  over Kellie Law do by lunch time.    This morning I didn’t sleep ‘in’, and I was out on the bike by 07.40:   I didn’t go very far, but two hours had passed before I was back at Ivy .... well ready for breakfast, and a cuppa.    Even though it was cloudy there was a lovely ‘light’ about, and I got what I think are some bonnie photos.    At Chapel Green I met a lovely couple, Ken and Karen, who were out for their morning walk before breakfast.   Though Ken and Karen  live in France now, Ken was originally from Elie,... slightly to the east of the Centre of the Universe.... and they enjoy coming home to their roots, having bought a house in Elie.   From the Chapel I went down to the harbour where I met Primro...

27th August 2016 (Saturday) ... 10.00    Today is Sandy’s birthday he will be ... what? oh my word that is auld .... he will be more than ‘21’ today!     Happy birthday Sandy!      You can eat cake today!  We have “sunny and warm”... and I slept in and wasn’t ‘out and about’ until 08.45 .... The Cockstail Rocks, Earlsferry, this morning lazy ‘boy’.   By the time I got down to the beach it was busy with folk out enjoying a beautiful ‘Elie and Earlsferry’ morning... so I joined them, and ambled my way along the edge of the tide;  it was, and still will be, gorgeous.    I met one gentleman, walking his dog, who has brought his Mum over to celebrate her 80 ... er ooops..  birthday!     Happy Birthday to “Mum” .... have a lovely weekend in Elie and the ‘Royal Burgh’! 22.30     I’m a much satisfied ‘boy’ this night;    I have ...

Fresh, breezy and sunny, morning ...

Image
26th August 2016 (Friday) ....    09.30      Autumn, is in the ‘bright and breezy’ air this morning;   a really nice morning for getting things done.    Getting things done?.....  when I’m in a ‘playing’ mood?    I’ve been up to the ‘Boss’s Seat’ and Chapel Green path this morning’s ‘instructions’ are to, ‘get out there, and have some fun....  the garden is too wet to work in’!     That’s good enough for me.   Orf to have breakfast then I’ll go out ... somewhere.    22.00     I didn’t go ‘oot tae play’ after breakfast;   instead I finished sorting out ‘M’s photos.    Jimmy arrived, well ready for a cuppa after walking to Maggie’s Seat;   he couldn’t get round to Alice’s seat because his hip was bothering him.    We had our cuppa in the Hutte.     Jimmy said he was...

Drop in Cafe ....

Image
25th August 2016 (Thursday) .... 09.30    There’s a bank of low cloud come in from the North Sea overnight, giving us a grey, and damp, morning.    I looked 10th green .... the lady in red trousers holing her putt! out at 05.00  and saw that it was thus, and went back to bed, finally getting ‘up’, and ‘running’ at 08.15.... well, maybe not running.    The weather should improve later .... but, with the wind being from the East, it’s a bit ‘iffy’.    There’s light ‘Scotch Mist’ falling now and again so I haven’t been down to the beach,... nor out on the bike;  but, I have done some ‘ooverin’ and dustin’!     Now I’m going to have a late breakfast.    Oh .... we have the ‘Drop in Cafe’ in the afternoon;   a chance to chat, and catch up with all the EKC Parish news.      22.30     We’ve had a ‘dreich’ evening, in fact it has been so si...

Bonnie morning for being 'out and about' .....

Image
24th August 2016 (Wednesday) .... 08.00    Feeling in a ‘playful’ mood this morning, I went down on the beach (at 05.45), to catch the sunrise;  which it did, Sunrise time, today, at Elie but was hidden behind low cloud ..... and, I’ve been up to Chapel Green on the bike.   Actually, I wasn’t the first on the beach today.... there were fresh ‘Man, and Dog Wednesday’ tracks on a virgin sand bank!    It was/is a bonnie morning for being out early;  and, it will be even ‘warmer and sunnier’ once the sun burns the cloud back. 21.30     The temperature in Ivy garden reached 22c at 14.00 .... and I had an attack of ‘the mauchless’.    There is only one known way to cope with ‘the mauchless’ (hereafter TM)... that is to have a siesta;   I did this.    When I woke up I got my book out and read until the air began to feel cooler.    This is ‘Bonnie Scotland’ and ...

Happy boy .....

23rd August 2016 ( Janice’s Birthday) ...   “Happy Birthday Janice” have a great, ‘21 and a bit’,  birthday! xx 13.30    “Laurie” (Nurse) is happy with my BP;   my weight, 10st 11lbs, was a pleasant surprise;   I thought I was over 11 stone, so I am very happy.    However I had to make an appointment to see my Doctor re my pills;   that happens on Monday. This morning First thing this morning I got ‘up’ to catch the sunrise, which was bright yellow/orange, but it was spitting rain so.    I didn’t get down to the beach, until after the event,....  but managed only a short walk before it began to spit rain again.    I gave up and went back to Ivy for breakfast, and to get ready for my appointment. After my ‘BP’ appointment, I went straight to Leven where I needed to do some  ‘banking’ stuff, then went to Sainsbury’s for coffee, and a wee shopping. ...

Flat calm sea ... with Scotch Mist

Image
22nd August 2016 (Monday) .... 07.30     The Scotch Mist arrived over Elie and Earlsferry at “iggzactly” 06.17;  I was down on the beach at the time.   It had been overcast prior to that so all the mist did was add wetness to an already grey Sunrise morning.   The beach was busy ... there were 100 + Merganser feeding at the tides edge:   they paddled their way along towards the Cockstail rocks when I went on to the beach.    I’d gone down to catch the sunrise at 05.57 but it was hidden by the low cloud.... however,  there was a warm glow where the sun should have been.    A canoeist arrived to take advantage of the perfect conditions... the tide was ‘in’ and the sea flat calm.   So, although grey, with Scotch mist, the beach is still there to be enjoyed;   and, the mist will clear away over the morning. to be followed by ‘bright, sunny and warm’. 21.00   ...

Feeling excitable ....

Image
21st August 2016 (Sunday) .... 09.00    it’s ‘bright and breezy’ this morning....  a good drying day:   I wonder? .... (5 minutes later) .... I have a washing going through the machine.     Now it’s time to get myself into gear;   I’d go to the kirk Classic car - Daimler this morning, but I feel as excitable as a “bag o’ ferrets” so must do something to burn orf energy.    This calls for a ‘plan’.    I’ll have breakfast and put together a ‘plan’ then.... I’m much in need of a cuppa anyway,  having come over all light headed since I took a BP pill.    Must ‘go’ “slight flap on”. 22.00    The “excitable as a bag o’ ferrets” lasted most of the day;   after the light headed/dizziness wore orf.    However, I’m really tired tonight, but, when I think of what I’ve been doing I suppose the auld muscles need to rest sometime.  After ...

Autumnal morning ..... baking scones

Image
20th August 2016 (Saturday) .... 08.00     Everything is wet after prolonged overnight rain, but it is ‘bright and sunny’ and  a nice morning for doing something ....  as long as it isn’t gardening.     I’m going to have breakfast before Evening time deciding what I want to do this morning;   baking scones is near the top of the list.    I could make some scones then Jimmy and I could have our own ‘CM’ in the Hutte.    Yes.....  I think that will be the ‘plan’.   But, right now I need food. 21.00     This has been a funny old day as far as the weather went;   we’ve had dry and wet spells most of the day, with the evening ending up the with sunny spells... the best part of the day for weather’. I have kept busy most of the day .... starting with the scones for ‘our’ Hutte Coffee Morning which was crowded... the Hutte being nigh on full to capaci...

Cool morning ... woollie hat

Image
19th August 20165 (Friday) .... 10.00  Hmmmmm ...  overcast, and cool this morning,...  but at least it isn’t raining, though rain is forecast for later in the afternoon;   it’s woollie hat weather.     I’ve been round the villages,  on the bike, and The fire ravaged Elie Deli site had my morning coffee sitting on the Boss’s Seat... it isn’t that cold, just breezy, which is making it feel cold.    There was a big hole in the clouds which I thought would let the sun shine through;   it did;   over at the lighthouse... not Chapel Green.    I meandered back to Ivy;  then decided to go up to the ‘Paper Shop’ ... where Davie managed to get into the ‘Paper Shop’ without me seeing him;   I was surprised by this.    It’s well known that Earlsferry folks are expert in the art of camouflage and concealment;   I mean you can go through Earlsferry without ...

Seventh anniversary of Maggie's death .....

Image
18th August 2016 (Thursday) .... 09.00    Seven years ago, on this date, Maggie died .... although she is no longer physically here, thankfully, she is still ‘around’, in my head .... keeping me right.    Once again I have a big “Thank You” to my family, and all my friends;   without ‘You’ the bereavement journey would have been so much harder.    I am enjoying being ‘me’ again, .... in fact, this morning I’m Elie from Chapel Green this morning feeling quite frisky.... though I admit that being ‘me’ can sometimes be hard work.    Where has the time gone?    I’ll have morning coffee up on the Boss’s seat later in the morning .... after the sun gets going.    I was up there earlier fixing a rosebud on the seat, but the weather was dull at that time;  hence the later coffee break.     22.30   It looks like the first four days of this week was summer for thi...
