'Dreich' .... with an Easterly breeze....
13th
February 2020 (Thursday) 08.30 .... there's a serious touch of
dreichness
about the weather this morning; overcast with rain coming in on a northeast breeze .... not a morning for the beach. The weather is forecast to improve by midday
and the wind back to the Northwest in the evening. I have ‘arbour ‘ouse to look forward to in
the morning and the Drop in Cafe in the afternoon with a wee bit shopping at ‘The
Store’ in Anstruther in between.... a fairly busy day because I have computer
stuff to do too.
13.30 Geoff and I enjoyed morning coffee in ‘arbour
‘ouse: Myra had other things to do....
getting the car MOT’d being one of the things to do.... so ‘the boys’ were leaderless; however we did manage to cope with morning
coffee on our own.Wet Bank Street - Elie. |
George
and \I went to ‘The Store’; it was
fairly busy and I met Edith (M’s wee sister) and caught up with all her
news. I bought a fair amount of shopping because Iain is
coming down tomorrow.... weather permitting.
It’s not a very good forecast for the weekend.... wind and rain. ‘The \store’ prices are a bit dearer than
Sainsbury’s but they have a decent enough choice.
I like this sky. |
17.00 We had a ‘Drop in Cafe’ with a difference
this afternoon; a bit of history, and some
exercise from Eleanor, Irene told us about foods that are good for you (nae
mention of deep fried Mars Bar) and music from Alistair. Susanne gave us the answers to the quiz
papers that were to be found on the tables.... an interesting afternoon. Oh and there was tea/ coffee sandwiches and
goodies. Not deep fired Mars Bars. I went to the harbour after the ‘Cafe’
because the sky was beginning to look interesting. It was also a lot colder than it had been
earlier.
22.00 I've just had a really interesting evening....
and we had coffee/tea and biccies at half time. Tommy (Reekie) took the first ‘session’
telling us all about the history of the Reekie family and the golf club making
business started by Tom Reekie (Tommy’s granddad) in Earlsferry; when Tommy’s Dad joined the business it became
Tom Reekie and Son eventually closing
down when John retired. Both our boys, Michael and Iain, were
taught by John and have the classical John Reekie swing; effortless, long and accurate.
We
had a cuppa and a biscuit (two in my case) then Irene gave a presentation (ably
assisted by Andrew her husband on the
laptop) on the history of her family.... the ‘Obarska Family’. That too was absolutely fascinating; Earlsferry is an ancient village with ancient
history but even our ‘modern history’ is interesting. Myra and Kirsty were there so I wasn’t
alone... and Alan who is always up for a laugh! Unfortunately there was a glitch between the
laptop and the projector and that made Tommy’s and later Andrew’s job much
harder that it ought to have been. Even
the glitch was entertaining in a funny sort of way. I loved the whole evening.
A slightly brighter sky beginning to appear. |
Iain
has just been on the phone and we’ve decided to postpone the computer upgrade
until next weekend because of the 'orrible weather forecast for this weekend.
