Damp morrrrrning....

Image
16th August 2022 (Tuesday)     08.00 .... Welllll.... we have much dampness this morning.... but... there’s nae dust to get in the eyes when biking.   Except that it’s too wet to go out on the bike.     I’ve been for the paper (in the car because of the heavy Scotch Mist) but didn’t go to the harbour.   The rain/Scotch Mist is going to move away over the morning and I’m looking for sunny spells in the afternoon:   sunny spells are not mentioned in the weather forecast but this is Elie and Earlsferry and we have our own micro climate.    I imagine the weather will be much the same in St Andrews ....where Michael and Janice are going.     I’ll spend most of my morning in The Hutte readin’.... and dreamin’;  at the moment the Fife weather cams are all grey. and uninspiring.     13.00     On the off chance that the sun is going to make an appearance sometime in the afternoon, I l...

Damp .....

15th August 2022 (Monday)     08.00 .... The sky has a look of rain about it just now, but it should brighten up fairly soon to give us light showers (according to the forecast).   We had heavy rain overnight, with thunder at 02.00... the nearest lightning strikes being at Shell Bay.   The Yellow warning for thunder is active until 23.59 tonight.   The air is much fresher after the rain and I hope to go out on the bike once the weather settles down.    There’s an active thunder storm moving towards Edinburgh from the Southwest (Biggar) direction. 10.30     The ‘troops’ come back from Dunfermline today;   they were at the Festival (Edinburgh) yesterday with their friends, Vicky and Seb.    This evening they are going to ‘The Ship Inn’ for dinner.... and tomorrow the five of us are going to the 19th for a meal;   I don’t know if it’s at lunch time or in the evening.    Seb and Vi...

Cloudier .....

14th August 2022 (Sunday)   09.30 .... it’s cloudier this morning,  but the sky is brightening and we should have sunny spells  shortly.    When I was out first thing ( I forgot the paper)  we had a lot of big blue patches toward the West;  in fact the sun was shining on  Earlsferry and the cliffs, but didn’t get as far as Elie.   Anyway it looks like we could have a bonnie enough day once the sun does break through.   At the moment the nearest thunder storms are in Northern Ireland and off the West coast of Scotland.   I’m having a cuppa before checking the weather forecast..... before I stain the gate. 17.30   The gate has been stained.... I only hope the stain is hard enough to cope with a thunder shower.   There’s a chance of us catching the edge of a storm that’s come up from the Borders, through Edinburgh, and is in the Kirkcaldy/Glenrothes area as I type.   We could get ...

Early morning mist ....

13th August 2022 (Saturday)        06.00 ... . it’s misty with a cool breeze off the North Sea just now, but should clear up by mid morning, to give us another sunny day;   that said there will be a breeze off the sea... and the threat of haar around   now and again... especially in the afternoon.   Janice and Michael are going to visit their friend in Dunfermline for a couple of days....and I am going to prepare the gate for staining.     Mostly it’s going to be a rest day.    Actually I might do a washing. 08.00    The villages were quiet when I went for the paper (in the car ‘cos I had to get milk) with not much happening anywhere.   Tom was at the harbour, (where I had a walk on the beach), unloading his early morning catch on what is a very peaceful morrrrrrrrning. 15.00     Wellll... I am now the owner of a 750 ml tin of  Ronseal ‘Rosewood Gloss’ Woodstain th...

Another bonnie morning ....

12th August 2022 (Friday)    07.00 .... It’s another cracker o’ a mornin’....not a cloud in the sky blue sky and it’s warm already.   ( It will be hot on the grouse moors).     I’m going to get the bike out after this update and do a quick tour before breakfast. 11.30    A big “Thank You” to Michael and Janice who cleaned out the rhones this morning ....a job that badly needed doing.     I swept the pavement.   There’s seems to be a slight change on with the weather;   there’s thin cloud drifting over.... and a welcome cool breeze off the sea.    I hope it disnae mean haar.       We have 20C in the garden at present. 18.30   I went out on the bike first thing;  and I got the paper.   It was a beautiful morning for biking so I came home by way of the harbour and Elie Estate.   There was a breeze so the loch was only mirror like where the pond weed was;  someon...

Another bonnie day ....

11th August 2022 (Thursday)     12.30 ....  We have ‘wall to wall blue sky’ again today and it’s warm (25C in the shade);  so it is the perfect day for being in, or on the water, or just lying around on the beach.   The tide was out when I went for the paper (forgot the paper), via Elie Estate;  it was warm even then... that was at 07.30.   Since then I have been pottering around Ivy.   I have Janice and Michael’s room to ‘oover... and the slips to put on the pillows:  that will be done immediately after this update.   I will stay out of the sun;  don’t want to end up wi’ wrinkles when I’m auld! 22.30    ‘The Troops’ (Janice and Michael) are in residence, after an uneventful journey from Uckfield    The only hiccup was when the train had to travel slowly due to track maintenance;  this made it 9 minutes behind schedule when it arrived in Kirkcaldy.  The biggest s...

Wall to wall 'bloo' sky ....

10th August 2022 (Wednesday)     08.45 .... It’s an absolute cracker o’ a mornin’;  wall to wall blue sky with only a light breeze... it will be hot by midday.   I’ve been up to Chapel Green, taken a few photos;  I would have taken more but the camera battery went and I didn’t have a spare with me.  It’s brilliant morning to be out.... I might do some work on the gate later;  there won’t be much done inside today! 21.00    Wellll .... it has been one cracker o’ a day;  even I enjoyed some time out in the sun.   I was working on the front gate so wasn’t directly in the sun, but it was comfortably warm in the shade ... 24C.   I thought I had some of the original stain to paint the gate but it had dried up... which was unfortunate ‘cos I was on a roll.   However it is ready to be painted when I get a new tin o’ stain.   The sign is ready to be screwed on;  I’ll do that in the...
