Thick fog... with frost ......
23rd
January 2017 (Monday)
....09.30 Oh dear ..... there’s a blanket
of thick fog over Uckfield, and the Southeast of England,.... the fog, combined
with
frost is making driving condition hazardous. I’m hoping that it will start to clear when
the sun gets going. fired
up..... “JB” and I are going down to Brighton today!
Fog on the road to Brighton |
22.30 On the way to Brighton, ‘John Boy’, alias “JB”
and I drove over a ‘down’, at the top of which we were above the fog, and for a
few minutes we were under a ‘bloo’ sky and in bright sunshine: that was the only sunshine we enjoyed all
day. Everywhere else we were enveloped
in the heavy fog.... especially on the coast at Brighton! That said we enjoyed the day out, but,
with it being cold as well as foggy, we didn’t walk around much.... apart a
daunder out to see the sea wall at Brighton Marina. The
sea wall
was a “darker shade of fog”, and very hard to actually see.
The only sunshine we experienced today. |
There’s
a “Frankie and Benny’s”, New York Italian
style Restaurant at the Marina .... and this is where we had lunch. I
had Cajun chicken with pasta and bacon etc, “JB” had a genuine NY burger. The Waiter assured us that this was genuine
real Italian New Yorkers grub. I have
to say that I really enjoyed the chicken .... and “JB” his burger; we both cleared our plates. For sweet, (we skipped the ‘starter’
course) I had a cinnamon waffle with ice cream. The waffle turned out to be a tough little
blighter, but I have a good set o’ teeth, and managed to sort it out .... and
everything that came with it. The
waiter assured me that all “Italian American New Yorker's” eat cinnamon
waffles; and have good teeth! This is the second time I’ve been in the Brighton
Marina “Frankie and Benny’s”, having been there with Michael and Janice a few
years ago..... and both
times have been most enjoyable experiences!
Frost on trees |
We
came home by way of Lewes, our thinking being that there might be sunshine at
the top of the hill. There wasn’t ....
any sunshine at the top of the Lewes ‘hill’:
and the ‘Lewes Hill’ is a steeper
version of the Uckfield one. We didn’t
‘moor up’ in Lewes, which was the original ‘plan’, had it been sunny .... only
stopping once, to get a photograph of frost
on the trees (and at traffic lights), before
we reached “No1”.
Janice’s
sister Pauline, and her husband Geoff arrived bearing ‘gifts’, including the
most huge sponge cake I have ever seen... or sunk teeth into; and it was scrumptious; still is, as there is some left for
tomorrow.
There
has hardly being any wind for the past few days, and this has resulted in high
pollution levels around the Southeast, especially parts of London. I had noticed this, and having had to use
my ‘reliever inhaler’ more often..... which is what is being recommended.
Brighton Marina. |
I
have ‘nae plan’ for tomorrow .... apart from taking a daunder ‘downtown’ in the
morning.
