Brrrrr... it's cool this morning (4c)
21st
September 2016 (Wednesday)
..... 08.30 My word .... it’s chilly
this morning, with the temperature down to 4c in Ivy garden. However, although cool, the sun is well above a cloud bank that
prevented me seeing the sun come up earlier:
now we have a ‘bright and sunny
morning’, and it should be warm once the sun is
higher in the sky. My hands are still cold after biking along
to the ‘Paper Shop’ .... time to get the
gloves out, now that autumn is here.
Officially Autumn begins with the Autumnal Equinox, which is tomorrow.
Sunrise time over Elie |
22.00 No wonder it was cold, and dark, this
morning when I got out of bed .... it was 05.30; not 06.30 as I thought it to be. I filled in the time (sunrise wasn’t until
06.56) by doing some ‘housework things’,
then went down to the beach... where I didn’t see the sunrise. That said... at least the sky brightened,
and I could see where the sun was behind the clouds.
Later
in the morning, I made up my flask of coffee and went up to Chapel Green to
look for different places to get photographs of the tenth green. The WWII machine gun site is the best, with
various places to sit/stand, with good views of the green, with
the cliffs
beyond. The machine gun site is still
there, though filled in and overgrown with grass... but still obvious as an
unnatural hollow.

Leaving
the MG site I thought I heard a voice calling “Albert” but couldn’t see
anyone... then I heard it again: it was
Jimmy sitting on “Alice’s Seat”, wearing a jersey that made him nigh on
invisible. From “Alice’s” we wandered
round to The Boss’s Seat, where we made the decision to go to Leven for a cuppa
in Sainsbury’s.
Tonight
I’m having ‘Ovaltine’ for my bedtime drink:
something I haven’t had for a long time. “Ovomaltine” was developed in Switzerland,
and was introduced to British consumers in 1909.... misspelling Ovomaltine when applying for a
Trade Mark registration gave us ‘Ovaltine’.
The Swiss still call it Ovomaltine.... and it has been made in the town
of Neuenegg near Berne since 1905;
though probably not to
the same formula as the Ovaltine we get
today. I like it.

The
‘Drop in Cafe’ is tomorrow afternoon... where we exchange ‘news’ from the
different villages that make up EKC Parish.
“Nothing” is the usual answer, when you ask “what’s happening in your
corner of the woods”. But there’s
always a lot of chatter in the ‘Cafe’;
all created by ‘nothing’ going on anywhere. I love it.
We
have a wet night ahead ... it’s raining now, but the rain is supposed to be
away by morning. I may have a ‘sleep in’
tomorrow morning.
