April 2019 (Tuesday)
.... 09.00 It’s a grey morning; the
sky is

heavily overcast, sometimes it looks like we could get Scotch Mist
coming in from the North Sea on the East wind, but rain isn’t mentioned in the
Fife weather forecast. I don’t intend
painting today.
Thankfully
the inferno that ravaged Notre- Dame Cathedral has been smothered; and the pictures, from Paris, are much less
frightening than the ones when the fire was ripping through the old roof
etc. The ‘words’ are more optimistic
too; apparently the roof, and the other
part destroyed by the fire can be rebuilt to their original glory.... as with
York Minster(1984) and St George’s Chapel (Windsor 1992) .... but it will take many years.

21.30 The sky has been overcast all day, as has
the East wind; so not a day for playing
on the beach. I decided to visit Jim,
and do a shopping, in Leven. Myra arrived
at ‘Leven Beach Care Home’ about five minutes after me. Myra made coffee (there’s coffee/tea making
facilities in the big sitting rooms) and we chatted for half an hour or so. Jim was in excellent form, taking an active
part in a three way conversation.
In
the afternoon I thought I’d go up Balcarres Den from the Robin Gray’s Cottage
end. I was happy to find that the
bridge; that one has been down for the past few years, had been repaired,
making the Den Road clear all the way up to the North Lodge. Some parts of the Den road can be very
muddy, but it was dry today; we haven’t
had rain for a few days. Having said
that .... we did have some spits and

spots o’ rain when I was driving home from
Robin Gray’s Cottage. The Estate has been doing a lot of work at the
bottom end of the den (Robin Gray’s end).... cutting out Rhododendrons and
planting various flowering shrubs and assorted trees; this part of the den will look lovely once
it matures.
The
‘plan’ for tomorrow is to start painting the outside of the Hutte; the weather forecast is ‘sunny intervals with
a frisky SE wind’. I’ll take time out
to visit Harbour House for morning coffee.
