Burns Supper....
24th
January 2018 (Wednesday)
.... 11.00 Now this is what I call a
weather forecast .... Uckfield Weather ; “rain starting in 9 minutes”. And it was near
enough spot on... light
rain began to strike the window 7 minutes later! It’s now raining (properly) ... and windy,
as per forecast .... but not cold, the temperature is 12c, and that is with a
brisk (wet) wind.
There's something wrong with this! |
I
went downtown early to avoid the rain;
did the ‘hole in the wall’ (the machine I used is being removed in
April), bought toothpaste, and had a cuppa in ’The Centre’, with Ruth. I didn’t stop long because I knew the weather
forecast was not ‘good’. The weather
has been a bit ‘iffy’ this holiday; a
lot of wet days.
19.00 The rain cleared away and I was able to
wander up to the local corner shop to buy the ingredients needed to make
cranachan .... raspberries, double cream, oatmeal and honey.... the other important ingredient we had loads
of; three tablespoonfuls of malt
whisky. There are loads of different recipes for
cranachan, but I did it as Maggie would have done ... the simplest, and best.
Janice with what looks like a bottle of Tomato Sauce! |
This
afternoon I watched ‘The Gruffalo’ and assorted friends, with Sullivan (great
grandson). Sullivan (hereafter ‘Sully’)has
seen the Gruffalo cartoon(s) umpteen times and was able to tell me who would appear
next on the screen. The pair of us made much noise.
Watching the Gruffalo, with a happy two and a bit year old great grandson, is very relaxing;
though it can get noisy!
22.00
We had our Burns Supper in “No1” tonight, because Janice is babysitting
tomorrow night. Michael used tonight’s ‘Supper’
as a run through for the Blackboys Burns Supper on Saturday evening. We had Cock-a-leekie Soup, Haggis neeps and
tautties, followed
by Maggie type Cranachan..... oh and the odd dram to help it
all go down. Puku is contented!

I
will bumble downtown tomorrow for some exercise, and a cuppa in The Centre: the weather is forecast to be less windy, and
dry with some sunny spells. I’ll buy
another Post Box to send home; it will
lighten the load for carrying onto the train.
